BACKGROUND: Fleeing destruction & turmoil, Thousands of Syrian families had to move and relocate into various temporary settlements. In a city that isn’t far from their borders, a temporary solution that is becoming permanent emerged; Al Zaatari Camp in Jordan. CONCEPT & DESIGN: Creating a market place that will extend beyond the usual trading place, By implementing the use of the courtyard as an essential typological element & surrounding it by shaded allies and shopping areas to create a single unit. By duplicating this unit in a linear manner along any vacant plot in the existing market street, we create “The Souq” an arabic term that represents an open air market that is usually considered the center for the growth of cities & their urban centers. SITE & CONTEXT: Along the main streets of the camp, markets are popping up, our suggested location is in a less occupied continuation of one of the market street, the market can be accessible directly from the main street anywhere along the road. Also Sun & Wind analysis for this location shows how the layout of the market will strengthen its ability to increase shaded areas & block strong harmful winds in winter.

CONCEPT & DESIGN: Gathering around the flag symbolizes ITIHAD, and that translates directly & indirectly. Directly (Flag & Base): By the seven sided heptagon Representing the seven emirates as a unit. Indirectly (Canopies): By the seven canopies surrounding the base and leading to it. The Base: a heptagon (seven sided shape) representing the seven emirates as a unit, with water streaming down the stairs, a lively fountains at the top. The Canopies: Simple Shading Elements that reinforce the idea of ITIHAD indirectly so that whenever poeple are standing beneath one they see the flag.

CONCEPT & DESIGN: Abstract: The Project is a sustainable train station in jordan. The idea of the design is to create a humanized Space, since the main purpose of a train station is to serve humans, i didnt want the character of machines to take over. On The Inside: By manipulating the interior spaces to create a lively & interactive interoir environment through overlapping levels that contain restaurants, shops & different amenities and that have connected views from all around. On The Outside: By creating a main shell stretching over the linear masses comprising the trains and their tracks along with the service and facilities spaces and holding them all together. Sustainability: PV Cells cover the shell comprising the station, the shell is angled to get the best results, in addition, there are wind turbines at the begining and the end of the entrance and exit of the train station platforms.

Green Roof: In Summer: greenary grows absorbing hot sunrays & the warm solar panels, reducing heat going in. In Winter: no greenary which makes the sun interaction with the wall direct

In Winter sun rays enter and heats the thermal wall but in summer sunrays are prevented

In Summer: The windows should be open so that hot air rises and the panels accelerate the air movement. In Winter: Windows are closed and this space turns to thermal space

Windows to let in the pool breeze in summer & sunrays in winter Piers are made from hardwood, which is resilient to saltwater therefore have a longer lifespan than other materials (such as steel)

CONCEPT & DESIGN: To adopt the language & spirit of “Sanna Architects” by studying one of their appartment projects. Their main philosophy was “less is more” & the idea they had in one of their designs was as follows; “to use the corridor (private engawa) as a sunroom, and the public engawa as an entry to all appartments. Study:

By taking that configuration and location the appartments on the southern side to use the sun direct effect and used the private engawa as a space to circulate into different rooms to create more privacy i created my design. Proposal:

The Process: Four Teams, working towards one Goal. - Material Composites. - Computational Simulation. - Scaffolding Fabrication. - Robotic Recrusion.

The Goal: An inhabitable pavillion that responds to the themes & aspirations of EXPO 2020. The teams aimed at producing full scale prototypes, using in-house technologies, tested materials at full scale, switiching back & forth between physical & digital design realms. The prototypes were scaled up slowly through experiementation feedback loops coming from Material Composites, Digital Simulation Analysis, Digital Fabrication Accuracies & limitations as well as DIY Robotic Enhancement possibilities.

The first prototype started with sketching a layout for the fabric we’re going to stretch, then cutting it, fixing it to the frame & finally stretching it as much as possible,Next was Plastering, which after drying would give us a stiff piece.
