Background

Numerous breakdowns caused by weather-related disasters made the wired fiber-optic connection to the remote LAN costly for the Philippine based Canyon Woods Resort Club located at Batangas. To remedy this problem, CanopyTM was deployed including two AP and three SM; one with reflector. The area covered was about 2.5 to 3.5 Km from phase 1 to phase 4. Deployment took only two days and was completed early April of 2005. End users are at the client’s remote Point Of Sale (POS) and database systems such as SQL plus Internet connection. After the CanopyTM wireless installation, available customer applications include a POS System, SQL & Sybase database plus Internet. Key benefits to the customer and the users include easy database access, immediate access to needed information online, Internet access, and avoiding having to use their cell phones to access information. Options such as billing processing and printing directly from the system are also available. “The application configuration of the Canopy system was amazing,” says Canyon Woods Resort headquarter MIS Manager, Mark T. Bugaoan, Jr. Bugaoan informs that this first deployment is only partial, and that there are plans to set up wide-ranging wireless IP cameras covering the entire resort perimeter using nearly a hundred cameras. Future plans also involve resort-wide Wi-Fi for Internet connectivity, according to Bugaoan.
