Environmental pavilion Digital Design & Research WORKSHOP WS 2013 | Oulu school of architecture Oulu, Finland Carved out of a cube with side lenght of 3,75m the pavilion sits on one of the many small islands arround Oulu - Elba. The typical house silhouet features round shaped interior, a fireplace in the middle and circular bench around it. Inspired by the Singing tree - a wind powered sound sculpture by Anna Lui and Mike Tonkins, the spatial composition of 4496 steel pipes strives to put together the domesticity of a traditional wooden finnish house, the warmth of the camp fire and the melody of wind.

Loft as a city [busterminal as infrastructural loft] MASTERSTUDIO WS 2014– BUSting in Berlin | IAT | TU Graz As a left over traffic island, the proposed plot for the new Berlin’s bus terminal looks at first glance like an impossibble site to relocate the existing Central bus station. On the other hand, rethinking mobility and public transitional spaces, suggests that leftover traffic islands might be locations with hidden potentials, which deserve to be further explored. Typologically the proposal could be categorised as a slightly sunken and in the same time elevated “C” building supported by 6 pilars, whereas the surrounding city scape interacts as a split level between the first two floors of the building. Using the predefined linearity of the motorway and the S-Bahn ring as a starting point and main guide line for the building’s organisation, the south east edge of the plot accomodates on top of each other the most important public functions the terminal hall and the commercial court, thus placing in an active interaction walking people and faster traffic. The main entrances for pedestrians are placed on both ends of the terminal hall and are establishing shortest connections with the existing bridges towards - 08 -

the S-Bahn station. Further on the linear organisation of the terminal hall is being transfered to the area with the bus platforms as follows - a loop of two way lane defines 14 longitudinal short term bus stops – seven as boarding ones towards the terminal hall, and seven towards the drop off area in the middle, which is vertically undependentl connected with the urban transitional space above. There are 28 more 45° longterm bus parking lots serviced by a secondary two way lane on the opposite side of the terminal hall. The organisation of the building’s base is being completed by two smaller ramp which are leading buses from and to the street level, and two longer ones leading to bus depot and service station below. The staggered shorter and longer ramps, as well as the implementation of the existing exit from the ICC undergound car park together with another ramp leading to the nord, which are forming secondary bridge connection between the two bigger islands, have an immense contribution to the compactness of the building, which I’m most contented with. On top of the base is the heart of the building – empty mass space formed by the “C” as an urban transitional space 2,5m over the street level. The open gab on the edge between it and the level below, as well as openings in the surface itself an important visual relationship, which visualise the interaction itself between humans and vehicular transport and turns the building from overdimensioned roofed bus stop into a bus terminal. - 09 -

Varna Library Architectural Competition Internship Studio MADe 2015, Hyderabad, India Team: Madhusudhan Chalasani | Georgi Nikolov | Vamsi Kundanam Varna Library: Accumulation through Stacking The stacked cubic volume, sited within the allowed buildable limits, seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, framing the public space between Osmi Primorski Polk Blvd. and Bratya Miladinovi St. The strength and simplicity of the concept is distilled from the basic pattern of written text lines, which define the structural and functional organization of the building. Our primary goal is to emphasize and re-interpret the storage as five massive structural floor volumes stacked on top of each other. In between, free of secondary structural elements, five highly adaptive voids accommodate the reading areas, thus shaping an entirely new urban space, supported by four massive infrastructural cores, analogues to reading in between the lines. Deep inside the sacred space of knowledge, the atrium and spiral stair unite both closed (storage) and open (reading) systems. This hybrid mixture of modern repetition and classic elements visually defines the proposal. - 32 -
