When a young girl goes missing, we follow a police officer investigating her timeline against corruptions of memory. In the format of a criminal investigationbased on a book, our film’s previsualization serves as an exposé on memory and spatial reconstruction, revealing how connections can be made across memory media. More importantly, it points out that “subjective”
memories such as witness testimonies might be looked at as the most volatile, and yet it is often the data-driven and digital memories that promote bias, exactly because of our approach to them as infallible. Therefore, regardless of human, digital, or object imprinted, memories can be seen as fictions of the past, introducing bias and narrative, and always open to a subjective interpretation.

L O C AT I O N S E T T I N G The case happened around the area of Salton Sea, a shallow and saline rift lake located in California, near Imperial valley on the west and coachella valley on the north. It used to be a popular vacation spot, until the increasing salinity and pollution took over. Now, the shore line is famous for its bizarre environments of decay and nothingness.
INCITING INCIDENT The story starts with a police officer locating an abandoned car. The car belongs to Eileen Taylor, a 21-year old girl that has been reported missing.

EVIDENTIARY CAMERA One distinctive environment is the evidentiary room. It is the only environment that remains unaltered by the narration, creating an illusion of objectivity.

One environment metaphor: the temple. The dark web is seen by most as a marketplace of illegal goods and services, this “underground” space one can only visit for satisfying their most dangerous desires. Therefore, its role as a “safe space” through the anonymity it offers is often overlooked. Journalists and witnesses navigate these unindexed pages in order to safely communicate with one another, not bound by the censorship of the surface web.

The sometimes confessional nature of the dark web draws a direct connection to the environment metaphor: the temple. Besides their imposing bodies, a common characteristic across temples is how they are organized in layers. Sometimes these layers refer to physical accessibility. Other times, the layering regards a stratification separating someone’s relationship with God. These layers remind us of the layered accessibility when it comes to unindexed web pages.

“In this land, the sun reigns over the halcyon surface and beautifully highlights the imposing temple, situated in the very heart of the Kingdom. Albeit its prominent location, the lack of doors or windows makes it impossible for the citizens to get inside; the only access is through the Dark Canyon, the single place that the never-setting sun cannot reach. Though its existence is no secret, the Dark Canyon is not exactly a tourist destination for the people. Not so much because it is hard to find a way to descend into the Canyon, if not advised by a more experienced traveler, but because of the myriads of stories about it. The notion of planning does not exist down here; the deeper you descend, the less sense the infrastructure makes. There are no maps or plans depicting the Dark Canyon; one must either know their way around it, or
else wander aimlessly and become a victim. Neon-lights alluringly illuminate the intricate structures, promising wanderers the experiences, products, or services of their deepest desires. Convoluted circulation, impenetrable doors, and paths leading to nowhere dominate the shadows. But to get to the Temple you have to find your way around the shadows; the serene river flowing in the Canyon is too out in the open to use as a path, exposing oneself to con artists, salacious desires, or illegal and precarious activities. People do not exactly know what is happening in the Temple. It is rumored that those who enter, never come back. Did they disappear forever, or did they stay there by choice? A place whose entrance is through the Dark Canyon can only be at least equally dangerous, right? But what is this light the Temple is emitting?�

The aim of this project is to examine how the value of art can be defined through documentation, exclusivity, and ownership, by fabricating a realistic fiction. Our team created Ice Bait, an ice artist based in Los Angeles, who installs large, signature ice cubes with unique orange figurines inside them, while maintaining her secret identity. Through so-

cial media presence (@ice.bait on Instagram) and posting pictures of the installations and the artist’s workshop, our goal is to tell her story through pure imagery. In this context, we examine art not as an exercise in skill, but in manipulating scarcity, maintaining a certain image toward the public, and establishing recognition through things being rare.

Revealed in a series of photographs, Ice Bait’s workshop / studio captures a sense of mystery that evokes curiosity about the process behind the making of the ice cubes. Although the ice we see is mainly on display, there are elements that suggest this is where the artist finalizes the detailing and stores her end product. This glimpse to her workshop contrasts the secret identity of Ice Bait, and allows her followers to understand more about how she works and develop a sense of familiarity with the artist’s daily life. One can easily recognize similar elements among the workshop photos, suggesting this is all be taking place in the same room.

Los Angeles is the established world capital of filmmaking. Embracing its identity, the urban fabric has learned to facilitate all functional needs of the entertainment industry, and manages to contain smaller, constantly transforming worlds within its world, all at various scales. Everything is seen as a potential movie set. In this context, we discovered the story of Pink Motel, a 1949 motel in Burbank, whose identity is now being preserved only for the needs of the movie industry. Inspired by LA’s identity as a perpetual movie set and the
motel’s story, we stayed within the room scale to examine how an environment as mundane as a typical motel room can be treated as a blank canvas to accommodate different movie genres, moods, and ambiences, as an introduction of ourselves to worldbuilding. All these elements that visually and emotionally contribute to the fictional worlds we are creating, define a scene’s aesthetics and transform even the most seemingly rigid spaces. It is by utilizing these tools that we can create well-crafted fictions that resemble reality.

Pink Motel’s dual identity had us imagine ways that multiple disparate elements could coexist in one space. Thinking of a typical motel room that has been the set for various film genres, we wanted to test the possibilities of expressing all these different scenes together, as if time in each little corner had paused at a certain point in the room’s life. A first pass of this idea led us to the composition of a room with multiple identities. Although when visually isolating different pieces of the picture we could vaguely get the sense of separate stories, the full image was not convincing. The elements could not coexist holistically, the light was too uniform, and objects & colors were not sufficient to narrate a story, which led us to reconsider this approach.

In the end, light, texture, & camera manipulation were key to a cohesive result. The final cut of our movie contains a multitude of little worlds hidden within it, all delivered in a photorealistic way. Variety in lighting, texturing, composition, and sound effects, translate in a
variety of moods for the viewer. Although scenes are meant to be delivered through video, we extracted a few stills to showcase some of the different worlds one could observe in our movie.

Starting with four famous sculptures, the first step of this project was to disassemble them and create a matrix of parts (kitbashing). Our group examined the relationship between deformed inflatables and an agglomeration of solids as a single frame, following the idea of an exquisite corpse. Therefore we combined the matrix parts following that strategy

and created a series of morphologies. The aim of this course was the acquisition of a diverse skillset through a series of exercises on the aforementioned morphologies. The final documentation of the project includes drawings, animation, 3 VR applications, and 2 AR applications.

BRIEF MEDIA LIERACY CENTER Diploma Thesis - NTUA School of Architecture Location: Pyrgos, Greece Instructors: Sofia Tsiraki, Costas Caradimas, Irene Klampatsea Type: academic, large scale landmark building Nov 2014
Since 1997, the city of Pyrgos experiences a cultural outburst through the Olympia Film Festival every December. This project aims at permanentizing the effects the Festival has on the city, while accomodating all spatial needs for media education.
The impact of the Diploma Thesis has been immense on the local community. Its research basis and final proposal have been used as leverage for the institutionalization of the Festival by the Greek Parliament. As a result, in early 2018, the funding for actually erecting a media literacy center was approved by the Government and the Region of Western Greece, and I will be assisting with its design, due to my thesis’ extensive research.
The design emerged as a combination of contextual parameters, algorithmic parameters, and experiential knowledge of the Festival’s mechanisms.

Four interior screening rooms, one open air cinema, one television studio, four workshop rooms, and various multi-use rooms, comprise a center fit to accommodate all Festival needs throughout the year. Strategically located across the current, temporary center, it maintains the memories imprinted on the city and utilizes the natural slope to respect the existing scale of the neighborhood.

BRIEF AMUSEMENT ISLAND Summer Technology Seminar - UCLA AUD Location: Los Angeles, CA Instructor: Leah Wulfman Contributors: Negin Nayeri, Gesthimani Roumpani, Xianrui Wang, Yusi Zhang Type: academic, technological research, character development Sep 2019 Once entirely dedicated to an amusement park, “Amusement Island” permanently waved its guests goodbye on a rainy day, years ago. Devastated and heartbroken, four of its most loyal visitors got on their favorite rides for one last time, but they lost track of time and were left behind and forgotten. Today, these four girls are the only inhabitants of Amusement Island, still enjoying what’s left of its former glory. In the process of becoming the main characters of the park, they have developed animal features and abilities. Also, since every hero needs a sidekick and most rides are for two people, each

girl carries around her pet animal. Their outfits are made of several items they have found through the years, as well as flowers they have incorporated into their ornaments and beauty routine. One of the girls boasts a magical hat which can store unlimited goods. As for the other three girls, they are constantly dancing, since someone forgot to turn off the music when the park got shut down. This is no problem for the squad though, as they are not trying to escape, but rather keep enjoying their favorite place on earth; using music to feed their souls, and churros to fill their tummies.

BRIEF N° 1475 - AIA SILICON VALLEY HOME TOURS 2018 Completed project - AWArchitect Location: Los Altos, CA Contributors: Gesthimani Roumpani, Kimberly Yee Head architect: Ana Williamson Type: professional, residential addition/remodel Completed May 2018 What started off as a small kitchen remodel, turned into a 424 SF addition and an entire remodel of the existing 3,478 SF three story house. With its East Coast Colonial exterior, this house has been a well-known landmark in its residential neighborhood of Los Altos, and the clients wanted to maintain the allure of its style. Regarding the interior, they opted for a modern, warm, family-friendly living space. Square footage was added at the Kitchen and Laundry / Mudroom on the First Floor and at the back of the house, to create a larger Master Bathroom and ensuite Bed-

rooms on the Second Floor. The inside of the building envelope was taken down to the studs to allow for a clean slate of materials, for design and constructability reasons. Both flights of internal stairs were re-built with open rails, visually opening up the vertical circulation core. I was heavily involved throughout all phases of this project (SD /DD/Permit/Bid/CD/CA), as well as material selections and design customizations. All content belongs to Ana Williamson Architect, unless otherwise noted.

Six Senses Spas is a renowned spa brand with various locations throughout the world. Designing their new branch in Belvedere Hotel, Mykonos, was challenging due to the traditional architecture and design restrictions enforced in the area. After identifying the most crucial issues in this design case, we decided on the best strategies to overcome them. From entirely re-designing the existing interior, to the custom design of each furniture piece, the approach was consistent with the brand’s, hotel’s, and local architecture’s values, aiming for the best customer experience.
Reflecting the traditional architecture of Mykonos, the spa’s decor features classic white walls and marble floors complimented by locally crafted timber features. Natural fabrics in the shades of Aegean blue and white together with soft lighting & skylights, work around the absence of natural lighting, and add warm highlights to evoke the serenity of the island. My responsibilites included drawing set production, photorealistic renderings, and custom furniture design. All content belongs to Concept Boarding, unless otherwise noted.

BRIEF GHOST IN THE MACHINE - COMPETITION WINNER Public Installation - code:ART Palo Alto Location: Palo Alto, CA Contributors: Ben Flatau, Gesthimani Roumpani Type: professional, open competition (winner) Jun 2017 This project uses technology to challenge how an individual perceives and interacts with others within their proximal space. Traditionally, we experience a space and our surroundings on a personal level. In contrast, this proposal allows users to experience space from another person’s point of view. In doing so, patrons step into the third person to examine themselves, their immediate surroundings, and their community as a collection of experiences activated by the general populace. To achieve these goals, two suspended “clouds” are placed at a neglected arcade in downtown Palo Alto. Each cloud has a network of sensors and motors that morph

The resulting installation allows citizens of Palo Alto to form a greater connection with one another through an understanding that we all participate in making a space, neighborhood, and community. Analogous to Gilbert Ryle’s use of the phrase in critiquing mind-body dualism, this physical demonstration of the “Ghost in the Machine” highlights our connection to one another in an interactive and tangible way.
