Impressions The A rt of Ski n
SkinÂ. It’s marked with freckles and moles, scars and birthmarks. Each of these impressions is a defining factor, a story, something only one person has in that specific configuration. The impressions left on skin can be found everywhere. Freckles are represented in poetry, scars and marks are shown through photo, palm lines are shown through craft. That is the essence of Impressions: showing the art of skin through different mediums.

A scar is an overlay of healed tissue. They take many forms, large and small, often devoid of the same pigment as your skin and of a smoother more leathery texture. They are the impression of the body’s ability to repair.

Skin is pliant, it has a give to it alongside its ability to keep an impression. Letterforms pressed into skin reveals a new sort of alphabet formed on planes of skin.

if freckles were lovely, and day was night, and measles were nice and a lie warn’ t a lie, life would be delight,— but things couldn’t go right for in such a sad plight i wouldn’t be i. if earth was heaven and now was hence, and past was present, and false was true, there might be some sense but I’d be in suspense for on such a pretense you wouldn’t be you. if fear was pluck y, and globes were square, and dirt was cleanly and tear s were glee things would seem fair,— yet they’d all despair, for if here was there we wouldn’t be we.

Fingerprints are the prime example of the occurance of pattern on skin. Asymmetrical, the impressed lines on the tip of the finger occur in the same pattern across all ten, yet are uniquely yours.
