THIS MAP AIMS TO EXPLORE AREAS OF INTENSE STATIC ACTIVITY ALONG THE RUSSELL STREET TRANSECT AND TO UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH AREAS EXPERIENCING HIGHER LEVELS OF PEDESTRIAN ACITIVY COMPARED TO OTHERS. BY USING THREE LAYERS OF INTERFACES, VARIOUS STATIC ACTIVITIES AND EXISTING GREEN SPACE OR COVER. THIS MAP HAS DRAWN CONNECTIONS BY SHOWING THAT AREAS WITH ONE OR A COMBINATION OF THESE ELEMENTS HAS RESULTED IN CLUSTERS OF HUMAN ACTIVITY. THESE CONNECTIONS CAN SHOW AREAS WHERE PEDESTRIANS WANT TO BE AND WHAT ELEMENTS ATTRACT THEM TO THESE AREAS. THESE INTENSITIES AND THEIR SAID CAUSES IS VALUABLE INFORMATION WE COULD USE TO HARNESS OTHER AREAS OF INTENSITY FOR THE PUBLIC WITHIN THE TRANSECT AND OTHER AREAS WITHIN THE CITY.

INTENSITY
CERDA MELBOURNE INSPIRED BY THE UNIQUE VARIABILITY PROVIDED BY CERDA’S DESIGN, RUSSELL STREET WILL HOLD GREATER URBAN VITALITY, LIVELIHOOD AND PLACE A WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF CERDA’S SUPERBLOCKS INTO THE EXISTING MORPHOLOGY OF MELBOURNE’S CBD.
MELBOURNE’S GRID PROVIDES A BEDROCK THAT WILL ALLOW FOR A COMPREHENSIVE AND SMOOTH TRANSITION WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF CERDA INTO MELBOURNE. THIS IS AS CERDA’S CREATION COMES FROM BARCELONA, A FELLOW GRID CITY.
-
BASED ON ANALYSIS INTO FUNCTIONALITY OF OPEN-PUBLIC AND QUASI-PUBLIC SPACES, IT WAS REALISED THAT THERE ARE LIMITED PROVISION OF SUCH ENTITIES FOR PEDESTRIANS IN THE RUSSELL STREET TRANSECT.
WITH THESE PROPOSED INTERVENTIONS, THE SUPERBLOCKS IMPROVE RUSSELL STREETS’ PERMEABILITY AND LEGIBILITY. THAT VARIETY OF FUNCTIONALITY OF THESE BLOCKS WILL ALSO CREATE GREATER DIVERSITY IN STREETSCAPE PERCEPTIONS, ATMOSPHERIC EXPERIENCE AND WILL ALTER OUR SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND INTERACTION WITH THE INCREASE OF OPEN-PUBLIC AND QUASI-PUBLIC SPACE.
