What are Chiropractors? A chiropractor is a professional and a member of the health care team that takes care of diagnosis, treatments and the preventive measures related to the neuromuscular system. It is categorized as a complementary and alternative medicine or CAM. Chiropractors are involved in the primary care of patients and clients that can be done in a health care facility, a specialist’s clinic or in a home setting. A chiropractor believes that any interference on the neuromuscular system can affect other systems of the body and can cause many other severe complications. Symptoms that are related to the spine or the vertebrae may alter many different functions of the body that not only affects the person physically but also emotionally and psychologically. The most important thing to note about the practice of personal and family chiropractors is that they perform treatments without the use of any medication. There are many conditions that may be addressed by a chiropractor. Here are the most common practices that a chiropractor performs: Chiropractors focus on the conservative management of the different muscles and bone of the body with special emphasis on the spine. Newer approaches to the practice of chiropractic medicine involves imaging procedures like x rays, MRIs and CT scans to be able to assess the client’s condition better before a chiropractic treatment is administered. There are also observational and various tactile assessments that are done before a customer is diagnosed for treatment. A chiropractic physician can also provide orthopedic and neurologic evaluation before a patient is treated. He may also refer his client to an appropriate specialist or a health care provider to administer follow-up care. A chiropractor may use different approaches to treatment but the most common is the use of spinal manipulation or SM. Other therapies may also be applicable to the treatment of soft tissues, joints, rehabilitative exercises, electrical stimulation, counseling clients for a change of lifestyle and even the prevention of many spinal problems and injuries. There are different state laws regarding the practice of chiropractors. In some states, they may be allowed to perform minor operations and even to deliver a baby through natural methods (natural delivery). Some state rules allow chiropractors including the family chiropractor to dispense medications and supplements as well as conduct diagnostic procedures.

The practice of the profession may also overlap with other medical practices like physical therapy, sports medicine and massage therapists. There are several differences between these and chiropractic medicine as well as their individual affiliations and alliances with different associations and fields. If you are looking for chiropractors in your area, look for the most experienced in the field, with

years of practice and specialization. Ask about their scope of practice as mandated by state laws to determine what that can do aside from performing chiropractic medicine and the various treatment techniques that they use.
