Week 1

BODY SURVEY Plotting The Body

SEAT ROOM MUSEUM Gr oup Gabriela Mill / Paula Madden / David McEwen

By marking the position of the pivotal points of the human body we traced the line of the skeleton between these spots. We then indexed various gestures of the figure on the chair using multi-frame photography and video footage, simultaneously recording the front and side elevation of the body.

By combining the frames of specific movements we understand the movement of the body in relation to time, with each image representing 2 seconds of motion.

16 Second Seat

Gr oup Gabriela Mill / Paula Madden / David McEwen

From the information gathered in the body survey, we selected a number of frames which covered one fluent movement. This movement ranged between standing and various positions of sitting, and eventually returning to the standing position. The profile of each frame was created by tracing the points plotted from side elevations in the body survey. 32 frames were selected to create the seat, each frame representing 0.5 seconds.
