GENDER IS A LIE The exposure to indoor air pollution caused by pollutants, inefficiency, and dangerous cooking practices kill almost 4 million people each year worldwide, and millions suffer from cancer, pneumonia, heart and lung disease, blindness and burns. The inefficient burning of solid fuels also contributes to climate changes, deforestation, forest degradation and to the loss of the habitat and of the local biodiversity. As a source of energy for household activities, more than 3 billion people still use solid fuels such as coal and biomass – wood, charcoal, crop residues and manure. Due to the lack of choice, low-income families from developing countries are more dependent on solid fuels, meanwhile, in rich countries, the households’ energy needs are settled through the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas.

SKATE PARK SIGNAGE SYSTEM The goal is to contextualize the signage system, making it natural and perfectly able to live with the language already present in the environment.
The skate park was open in 2001 and its design was considered innovative in relation to the others available. This is due to its project, which aimed to recall the essence of street skateboarding, bringing to its structure elements of known town places, like the benchs in XV Square and the staircase of Matriz Square and the steps of the City Council. Today, IAPI skate park is considered the most important from Brazil and hosts several competitions. The skate park lacks visual identity and signage. The environment is visually polluted and practically covered with graffiti - often even obstacles present such interference. The ground is one of the few places that still holds a grip on this visual aspect. This signage project seeks to identify and inform users about all obstacles, including their height, their degree of difficulty and possible maneuvers. The system uses stencil, familiar to the users, and consists of pieces that fit as the needs appear. In
this case, we have a central piece used as frame, 3 moving parts (which work as diagramming ruler) and several smaller nipples, forming several combinations that allow to show the relevant information for every obstacle.The idea is to use the natural grid provided by the tile floor of 40x40cm to organize this information. Besides the obstacles identification system with stencil, we also developed entrance totems, which guide the users and inform them about the location of some areas that make up the park, such as the toilet, the square and the water cooler locations. This totem is designed

Bem pelo contrário, entrei pra área acadêmica numa idade já bastante avançada para os padrões normais, quando muita gente já estaria começando a sonhar com a aposentadoria. Entrei por convite (e pressão) do arquiteto, e também professor do UniRitter, com o qual dividia o escritório e que, ao contrário do meu próprio julgamento, achava que eu poderia ser um bom professor. Entrei, gostei e fui ficando. Hoje, quase 20 anos depois, me considero mais professor do que arquiteto. Coisas da vida. Bem, e a UniRitter como é que era naqueles dias em que cheguei por aqui? Vocês não

reconheceriam. A área física se resumia ao prédio A, ainda parcialmente em obras, ocupado somente até o segundo bloco de escadas, abrigando os cursos de Arquitetura, Pedagogia e Letras (Direito, o outro curso forte da instituição, acontecia apenas em Canoas). Um colegião, como os próprios alunos gostavam de chamar, que, ainda por cima, funcionava apenas no turno da manhã. O Design, lá por 2002, 2003, foi um dos primeiros cursos da instituição a oferecer aulas noturnas. Desses tempos, lembro de quando cursamos o Mestrado, oferecido a um grupo de 20 professores aqui no
campus Zona Sul, lá no início de 2000, e que acontecia no turno da noite. Quando saíamos, às 21:00h, era assustador ver aquele prédio totalmente às escuras, com luzes apenas na porta principal e lá na portaria da saída. Ninguém , àquela época, seria capaz de imaginar que em tão pouco tempo estaríamos lidando com engarrafamentos homéricos na Orfanatrofio. Me orgulho bastante de ter participado da construção do curso desde os seus primeiros momentos e acredito que hoje, junto com o Caetano, eu deva ser um dos últimos remanescentes daquele time pioneiro (o que me faz sentir um pouco velho, mas enfim...).
José Degani Nascimento: 1949 Bacharel em Arquitetura pela Unisinos; Mestre pela UFRGS em 2004. Exerceu a profissão de arquiteto até 2004, e chefiou o setor de projetos e manutenção do INSS em Porto Alegre até 2009. Na UniRitter, já deu aulas para os cursos de Arquitetura, Design e Jogos Digitais.

Dos alunos das primeiras turmas, dos professores que já se foram, dos jantares na casa do Bozzetti, das quintas feiras no Dom, na Cidade Baixa. Saudades, em especial, das nossas viagens a Buenos Aires, que não sei se algum de vocês teve a sorte de participar. Vinte e poucas horas de ônibus, nem sempre com todo o conforto que merecíamos - como daquela vez, com temperatura de -2°C lá fora, e o ar condicionado do ônibus pifado; ou daquela outra onde rolou a maior confusão na aduana Praga, A4, Aquarela. 11

argentina, que acabou nos levando a todos a prestar depoimento na delegacia da Polícia Federal. Mas valia tudo pra poder passar uma semana no Encuentro da UP, aproveitando as delícias daquela cidade incrível. Fatos dignos de nota que ocorreram nessas quase 10 viagens que fizemos? Muitos. Vou relatar um, que tem tudo a ver com a Profª Paula, minha parceira infalível naqueles primeiros tempos. A Paula, pra quem não a conheceu, era professora de História da Arte. Uma sumidade (hoje ela dirige o IA, da UFRGS). Absolutamente apaixonada pelo que fazia. Um dos programas obrigatórios que fazíamos com a gurizada naquelas viagens era a visita ao MALBA (Museu de Arte Latinoamericana de BsAs). Pois numa dessas tantas idas, como eu já havia circulado bastante pelo museu nas outras vezes, decidi deixar a Paula se virar sozinha com os alunos e fui ao Café Renault, que ficava em frente, fazer hora. Me instalei em uma poltrona confortavelmente, pedi um café e fui ler um jornal. O tempo passou e pedi um segundo café. Pedi um champagne, outro café, um suco, e nada da Paula aparecer. Chegou uma hora que achei que já tinha passado dos limites e resolvi voltar ao MALBA pra conferir o que estava acontecendo. Busco daqui, busco dali, até que, de repente,
entro em uma das salas e me deparo com os nossos alunos. Formavam um grande semi-círculo junto a uma daquelas obras, todos num silêncio respeitador e profundo. Mas tinha no ar um clima misto de constrangimento e curiosidade. Em frente a eles, a Paula, entusiasmadíssima, descrevendo a obra... aos prantos. Essa era a Paula, paixão e emoção puras, e se eu não vou atrás, o museu fechava e ela não saía lá de dentro. DEGANI

Depois de 4 anos de muito aprendizado e diversos projetos criativos, me formei na turma de design da UniRitter em 2015/1. Exatamente um ano depois aceitei o desafio de realizar meu estágio profissional na Índia pelo projeto Talentos Globais da AIESEC. Para muitos pode parecer loucura ter largado um bom emprego, família e amigos para morar e trabalhar em um dos países mais sub-desenvolvidos do mundo. Mas o desafio sempre me moveu e não me arrependo em nenhum momento da escolha que fiz. O aprendizado, a experiência e a oportunidade de conhecer uma cultura totalmente diferente da minha, enriqueceram muito minha vida. O meu lado profissional desenvolveu muito por conta do inglês e da vivência diária com pessoas de várias partes do mundo. Todo conhecimento que tive durante a graduação estou pondo em prática aqui e inclusive mostrando aos indianos o quanto o design gráfico é importante no mundo corporativo. Espero poder conhecer mais lugares do mundo para desenvolver ainda mais meu conhecimento e experiência de vida.

BE OPEN, DRIVEN, AND WILLING TO LEARN Honesty is the best policy – if you’re unsure, just ask for help.
Once you’ve landed a placement, nobody expects you to know everything already. That’s what placements are for: learning and developing. So don’t be shy if there are things you don’t know how to do. “Be self aware enough to ask for help,” says Koto founder and creative director James Greenfield. Ellul agrees: “Honesty is the best policy – if you’re unsure, just ask for help. The best placement students aren’t afraid to ask for clarification or to raise a hand when they’re stuck.”

For their first Pentagram project, Hudson-Powell and Powell created the identity for Resonate, an international festival of music, visual and digital arts in Belgrade, Serbia. They say they look for junior designers who come up with creative solutions on placement.

WHERE ARE OUR MATES?
Desde que ingressei na faculdade eu almejava me tornar professor de curso superior. Durante o curso eu estive em diversas áreas como: malharia, alta costura, reformas em geral, moda com materiais alternativos, técnicas de desenho e outras coisas mais. Sempre ansiando pelas maiores notas e melhores avaliações, fui indicado para dar aula em um curso profissionalizante de moda. Hoje eu estou no mestrado da UniRitter e não leciono mais por estar cursando o mesmo.
Formada no ano de 2015 em design de produto pela UniRitter, trabalho a um ano como designer na Eu Amo Papelão, no qual tive o DesignLab como fator essencial para estar empregada após uma mês da formatura. Curso o terceiro semestre da pós-graduação em MBA marketing, também na UniRitter.
