Welcome THERE are trout waters up and down the UK that make a huge effort to provide us with quality fishing and this listing is our way of saying thank you to those waters. It doesn’t really matter where the fishery is ranked, the important thing is that they’ve made it into the rankings. The top 20 more or less pick themselves because they’re incredible waters, always in the news and offering excellent stock and facilities. But to be honest there’s then not much difference between the other fisheries that made it. They are all good and worth a visit. You may feel that, in your opinion, we’ve missed a few out or made a bad judgment. Fine. Email me
(russell.hill@bauermedia.co.uk) and – while I cannot enter into a discussion – I will look into your claim. I can’t be fairer than that! The criteria for assessing a fishery were many, including facilities, staff friendliness, quality of stock, efforts to cater for all abilities, overall fishing experience, location etc. And we consulted our contributors for inside information about waters in their locality. But after considering everyone’s view, the final decision was mine. This year, we decided to keep the listing to commercially stocked waters alone because comparing the wild waters of Ireland to stocked waters isn’t really fair. Russell Hill, editor

Premier Fly fishery near Redbrook village in Gloucestershire, England, adjoining the border with Monmouthshire, Wales. It is located adjacent to the River Wye and is set in the heart of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The venue itself comprises 3 main pools and a nursery
pool. Main pool no. 1 or ‘Gin’ pool is crystal clear (spring fed) where stalking is the order of the day. Pools 2 & 3 (middle & lower pools) are less clear, being stream fed, though vision through the water is still very good. The fishery is stocked weekly with 2lb+ premium trout maintaining a very healthy head of fish. Also stocked are larger trout 6-12lbs, as sporting fish to be released, for our clients added pleasure.
