Meanings.

Epilogue

As a Graphic Designer, I build my design work by practicing consistently, continuously and see things dif ferently. I practice observing, listening and talking. By observing my surroundings, I learn to see things through my own eyes and a graphic designer's eyes. By listening to what my mentors and colleagues tell me, I synthesize and apply it to my design. Through talking, I practice pitching ideas to my clients and make them feel excited and thus create an emotional link between us. I believe I can be a bet ter designer if I focus on practice, and more practice. Af ter all, we will keep on learning our whole life long.

Concept This conference focuses on human centered design and is targeted at designers from various fields. All aspects of design overlap and it ’s good for designers to learn from other fields. Approach I visualized this event as a conference where designers unite, thus I used a circle as the main visual element. The other visual elements, based on constellations, mean infinite possibilities and exploration because as designers we are visual explorers. Objective Recreate a design conference that already exists. Learn how to create an appropriate design system for a design conference by choosing proper type family and visual system that will be used across print and digital deliverabl

Concept First labyrinth is called Play, this is a type of a fun labyrinth where you can easily find your way out. Second labyrinth is called Calm, it 's a type of mandala labyrinth to bring the sense of calmness to mind. The final labyrinth is called stuck because once you get in you cannot get out easily.

48

Approach I created three posters as a series for an architecture event with custom type based on the concept that I had chosen: labyrinth. In this project I had to choose materials that were relevant to the topic and create my own type that worked as a visual system. Objective Choose proper materials for creating type. Create type systems for the poster.

Concept In this repor t, I tried to create dif ferent methods for making data look more sophisticated and interesting. Fur thermore, because I valued Japanese Illustration, I tried to create illustration that would be suitable for Kikkoman. Approach Kikkoman is a traditional company from Japan, their soy sauce product is their tradermark and its unique bot tle made their high selling point. In this repor t, I tried to depict their value in my design and season it with a modern approach. Objective Recreate a Corporate citizenship repor t and create infographics for current Kikkoman's data.

Concept Larry Clark's movies that this festival plays has a theme of troubled youth. I see these troubled kids but I don' t understand them because I have never be in their shoes. So I based this festival in something unapproachable, dangerous and damaged with a sense of light.

80

Approach I used urban building walls as inspiration because stains and grime tell a story and it made sense with the story that Larry Clark tells us in all of his movies. It 's nothing beautiful, but it 's honest and that 's real life. Objective Using urban life as my main inspiration, I gathered photographs of San Francisco building walls and made tex tures based on these. Using Larry Clark's films as the main hero of each deliverable, I added tex ture to create a feel and hold all the di f f erent images together. Since Larry Clark's movies are nothing but honest, the kit that I created for this film festival is straight forward, with products that Larry Clark loves most, cigaret tes and alcohol.

Concept I tried to create an app that is pleasing to look at and easy to use. This App's sole purpose is to guide new users to discover vacation destinations in Bali. I guide users by giving them information on what most people go to Bali for. Approach Bali has been famous as a holiday destination for a very long time. It 's hard for people to plan a holiday in Bali online because there are too many options of fered. My app categorizes activities by their popularity and limits the options so people can really focus on what they want to do and not get lost in all the choices Objective Create a Smar tphone App to guide users to go to Bali, an exotic island in Indonesia.

Concept I tried to utilize America's greatest treasure: its national park and put it as visual direction for Boreas, an adventure outdoor packs brand based in San Francisco. The new brand direction tries to evoke people's emotion and create desire for them to go outside and use Boreas's product. Approach Boreas believes that their product will help people to go explore the world so I tweak their original tagline "Adventure Unknown" to be "Collide with Nature" to give Boreas more boldness essence and creating shock value to its target audiences. For the primary brand ex tension, I create a deliverable that they should have in this ever-changing world, a smar tphone app. And to fur ther Boreas' strength, I use product that will strengthen Boreas' value as an adventure outdoor company. Objective Select a brand that is dying, defunct or dead and identif y its essence. Revive the brand by repositioning and expanding the new brand’s identity and creating new ex tensions that open the company to a whole new demographic while still remaining true to its original soul. INTRODUCTION

Family To my family: Papi, Mami and my two older sisters, Mellisa and Nathania. I know I haven' t been around since I got into graphic design school. I just want youto know that deep down I love you so much. Words are not enough to say thanks for the great oppor tunity you gave me to study graphic design. I will never stop learning and striving to improve myself so that you can be proud of me. Teachers To all of my teachers at the Academy of Ar t University: Mary Scot t, Phil Hamlet t, Sandra Isla, Kathryn Blat ter, John Net tleton, Bob Slote, Marc English, Hunter Wimmer, Susan Pasley and Shel Perkins.I will always remember what you have taught me and the tears you have caused me. But I'm grateful for your push and critiques. Friends Thanks to all of my friends at school who helped me and in a way, challenged me to be a bet ter graphic designer. We learned together and formed precious memories that I will never forget.
