Early Ideation Sketches After brainstorming I narrowed my idea down to an at home Retina eye testing device. Wide variety of forms. Was testing how the phone would fit with the device. Would the person hold it themselve? Would it sit on the table?
Making protos After making sketches I started to make some rough prototpyes to see my forms in 3-D space. This helped me understand the form and see any potentioal problems ergonomically
Market Research After making my first round of mock ups I also did market research. I noticed that currently on the market there is retina scanning devices used with the phone. I found though that all of the devices are that somebody else must use on you, amd seems to be meant for doctors still. Not easily assecible to buy as a consumer. I then strived to create a device that is easy for you to test on yourself at home. The information will then be sent to your doctor via the phone.
Current way to test your eyes at home is to use an Amsler Grid. You have to cover one eye and look at the dot and mark if any of the lines seem irregular, or any missing areas. This is hard to do and know if their actually is irregularity. People could easily miss something and if you do notice something its only documenting it on a piece of paper so you still need to go to the doctor and get a fundus exam to see if something is really going on. The technology is there to take a fundus exam by using a phone camera with an assisted lense. This means it is possible for people to have their own at home fundus exam that they can send the results to their doctor making it easier for people to know what is going on faster.

Came up with the concept of creating a wearable mask device that your phone will slide into. You use the device by laying down and putting the mask on your eyes Takes the anxiety out of regular test and feels more like a self care routine and is relaxing and luxurious Taking something seen as clinical and non-attractive to something warm and attractive.
I then started making more refinded mock ups with this concept. Using yellow foam really helps me see all the shapes and details. It helps me undersand how the user would actually wear it, where the phone would go, sizing, and more.
I then created a material library of all the possible colors and materials I was interested in. I wanted to make sure that the device comes off as very comforting so was thinking of doing some sort of fabric.

many different mock ups. I felt that many of them where too bulky or did not evoke the “calm� emotion I was going for so I looked back at my inspiration and incorportated softer curves with subtle details to come up with my final concept.

Precision This model requires many intricate details because the phone must go inside it. To make sure everything fits correctly it is important to do things very precisely. To acheive precision I used the mill to do the phone slot, the eye slots, the charging slot, the face curve, and certain angles that can only be acheived on an angle plate.

1. Open app on phone and slide phone into device. Device turns on when phone is inside. Light on front will indicate on. Light will be red if needs to be charged. 2.Put device up to face. Sensors inside the device will detect your face. The device is voice activated and will inform you when the test is happening and when it is done with simple voice commands. 3. To raise the volume tap on the left side and to lower the volume tap on the right side. Light on front indicates on 4. Once test is done take off the device and use the app on the phone to see photos taken and send information to your doctor
