Hi all,

Fun Quiz

You can tell the Weather is finally warming up!

Page 22

As I sit here on my computer, I can hear my wife working hard outside - painting fences, digging flower beds and giving our garden fence a much needed lick of paint. I am of course keeping a watchful eye on the quality of work from my slightly chilly office.

As we move into the warmer months you may want to take part in some of the various activities listed in our popular What’s ON guide. There is one event in particular that I am hoping to get to, armed with a camera. It’s a Napoleonic re-enactment being held at Llancaiach Fawr on the 30th and 31st of May. As well as soaking up the atmosphere of a by-gone age it will be an ideal opportunity to remind my better half that women of the Napoleonic age did not have the luxury of a Hover Mower. I am not sure if she will thank me for it! Actually, maybe I will keep my mouth shut our shed is a rather chilly place to sleep. See you next month

Restoration of 1 Restoration for Caerphilly Church 2

ÂŁ

Caerphilly Church

The second phase of restoration work at Van Road United Reformed Church is almost complete. The worship area on the first floor has been restored using traditional materials and methods, and returned to its original colour scheme. The first phase was completed in 2008 when the exterior of the building and the northwest tower were extensively repaired and restored. The church opened in 1904 as an English Congregational Church. It served local people as well as an influx of families from the West Country, who came to work in the collieries and on the railway. The building was designed by Sir William Beddoe-Rees, an eminent Welsh Chapel designer. The church is one of a few of the 19 churches he designed which still survives and is in use. Its tradition of Christian worship, serving the needs of local people, and providing for community activities continues today. In 1972, the church joined the newly formed United Reformed Church and in 1997 it was Grade 11 Listed by CADW. A third phase of restoration work is proposed for the ground floor rooms, as and when funding becomes available. The funders of the work to date are: The Welsh Assembly Government, The Heritage Lottery Fund, Caerphilly County Borough Council, the United Reformed Church Wales, Garfield Weston Foundation, James Pantyfedwen Foundation and the Congregation. If anyone has memorabilia of past events and activities at the church, which we could copy, please contact: John Wade 029 20 866 578. Two celebrations are planned to mark the end of the current restoration programme and a warm welcome is extended to all. Sunday 23rd May at 3.00 p.m. A Service of Rededication of the restored sanctuary and relocation of the memorial plaques. The service will be conducted by: Rev. Shelagh Pollard, Rev. Peter Noble, Rev. Malcom Shapland, former ministers of the church and its sister congregations. Friday 9th July at 3.00 p.m. A Community Celebration of the restoration work when the church will be decorated as part of the Annual Caerphilly Flower Festival. Further information available from:

Church Secretary: tel. 029 20 868 384 VAN-guard Centre Secretary: tel. 029 20 866 578. Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

Premier Holidays held a coach display in ASDA carpark, caerphilly on Saturday 10th April 2010 to get ourselves established with the local residents as well as offering a choice of holidays and day trips that are available throughout the year. There was a great level of interest from the public enquiring about private coach hire as well as numerous bookings for up and coming tours and days out.

Katie Olsen from Premier commented “All in all we can proudly say that the day turned out to be a great success. We would like to thank ASDA for giving us the opportunity to publicise our new venture”. Premier Coaches have an advertisement on Page 31

Beauty Tips

Focus on Beauty Getting Lippy Your lips can be the most attention-grabbing part of your face, but it’s all too easy to make mistakes and make your lips stand out for the wrong reasons. Caring for your lips and choosing the right products can produce wonderful results.

Basics

Exfoliate around the mouth as part of your regular skincare regime. This will remove dead skin cells and encourage good circulation in and around the lips. When applying foundation, make sure you also cover your lips to provide a good even base for colour application.

Colour

Lip liner used as a base colour gives a long-lasting effect. The colour will remain long after your lipstick has faded. This is particularly useful with lip gloss, which normally disappears too quickly. Lip liner should only be a shade or two darker than your lipstick.

Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

Blot lipstick with a soft tissue, reapply and then blot again to give a deeper colour effect (blotting also helps to keep colour off teeth).

Luscious Lips

To achieve fuller lips, apply liner slightly outside your natural lip line and then place some white eye shadow over your lipstick in the middle of your bottom lip and blend, or apply a tiny amount of gloss (but don’t blend). To make lips look pouty, dab a touch of gloss in the centre of your top lip. Uneven lips can be corrected by using a lighter colour lipstick on the smaller lip. Dark shades make lips look smaller.

Working from home

What not to wear by Ted Bruning

I

t was nearly lunchtime when I realised I still had my slippers on. Horrified, I ran a quick mental reconstruction of the day so far. I’d walked the dog at about 8, got home just before 9, taken my wellies off, put my slippers on, sat down in The Office (converted garage, no heating), and started work. Three hours of work later (interspersed, of course, with the odd cup of coffee, piece of toast, and game of solitaire), I still wasn’t fully dressed! And worse, I hadn’t cleaned my teeth! So, am I letting myself go? You hear, of course, of people who’ve been working from home for years who have got out of the habit of getting dressed at all. People who spend all day at the screen in just their vest and pants. People who are still in their jim-jams when the kids get home from school. People whose teeth are green. People whose stubble isn’t designer, just disgusting. It’s the isolation that does it. When you no longer have to impress your boss – let alone Natalie from HR – you start dressing to suit yourself. And the decline starts by small and easy stages. First, of course, it’s weekend clothes on weekdays – scuffed trainers, well-worn jeans, and a ‘Legalise It’ T-shirt rather than collar and tie or Timberlands and sharply-pressed chinos or whatever etiquette demands in your office. No harm in that – why dress up when no-one can see you? But it never stops at jeans and T-shirts; and when phoning fellow workers-from-home, I find I can’t help wondering what they’re wearing. I might be talking to someone who sounds bright, cheerful, sharp, clued-up, keen as mustard and clearly a thoroughgoing professional in every important respect. But have they bothered to get dressed? Somehow, I can’t get enthusiastic about doing business with someone whose idea of appropriate clothing is a pair of elderly Y-fronts and a Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

grubby string vest. And I certainly have no intention of going that way myself. In fact I’ve always been a bit of a stickler in matters sartorial. Not natty, or even neat, but neurotic. For instance, I hate taking my shoes off when visiting: what’s wrong with wiping your feet? I have a horror of ankle-flapping trousers: the cuff should sit neatly on the top of the shoe. And the waistband should go round the waist, not anywhere lower. In short, my clothes don’t scream “look at me”; they whisper “there is absolutely nothing unconventional or noteworthy about the way I am dressed”. I blame my father, who always dressed just so. He was halfway into a fortnight’s holiday in the Adriatic before he could be convinced that he didn’t need to wear his customary checked tweed jacket during his morning constitutional round the harbour, and had been retired for several years before he stopped putting on a tie every morning. Not that I’m anything like as formal as that, certainly not in these times when almost the only working men who wear a tie every day are police officers and Eddie Stobart drivers. But I’ve never been able to shrug off the feeling that clothes, not manners, makyth man; and still wearing slippers by lunchtime is, to me, the precursor of a disastrous downward lunge into the land of pants and vests. Having said all that, let’s not go mad here. I still can’t be persuaded to do any ironing...

Neighbourhood Policing

Inspector Paul Staniforth is the Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Bedwas and Caerphilly. We sat down for a sixty second interview to find out a bit more about him: When did you join the police? 1996 – as a Police Constable working from Maindee Station, Newport. Why did you want to join the police? I wanted to do something that was exciting, and allowed me to deal with a diverse range of people and had good longterm career options. What has been your most satisfying role in the police? Working as a Sergeant leading a proactive drugs team in Caerphilly. We were targeting known drug dealers and it had a great deal of job satisfaction.

What is your favourite thing about working in Caerphilly? The excellent community spirit. We have a lot of assistance from the public, and we find that most people are supportive of what we are trying to achieve through neighbourhood policing. What is the best advice that you have ever been given? Try not to let your work interfere with your personal life. What do you like to do outside of work? I used to play football regularly but a knee injury has stopped me playing. Now you are more likely to find me fishing on my days off. What was first car? An Escort Mark 3 Estate, which I practically built myself. Where do you see yourself in ten years time? Hopefully still working in neighbourhood policing, as I have seen the positive difference that this style of policing can have on local communities.

Wayne David

A Good Announcement for Caerphilly A few weeks ago I was delighted when the Ministry of Defence (MoD) made a highly significant announcement. A contract for a new Scout vehicle for the Army is to go to General Dynamics (UK) Limited - a company based in Newbridge. Quentin Davies, the Armed Forces Minister, Peter Hain and myself, made the announcement to the workforce. This will mean that hundreds of well paid, highly skilled jobs will be retained in the Caerphilly Borough and many new jobs will be created. General Dynamics (UK) Limited has had a highly successful business in Oakdale and Newbridge, developing and producing the Bowman Telecommunications System, currently being used by the Armed Forces. This new contract will ensure that the skills and expertise of the workforce will be retained and extended. The competition for the MoD contract was between General Dynamics (UK) Limited and British Aerospace Electronic Systems. General Dynamics (UK) Limited won on the basis of cost and the technology the company was able to offer to the project.

Secure your Home with CLEAR CHOICE WINDOWS

Unfortunately, some politicians were critical of the contract going to General Dynamics (UK) Limited because they assumed that this was an American company rather than a British one. However General Dynamics (UK) Limited is based in Newbridge and is a free standing company, separate from its U.S. parent company. Importantly too, awarding the contract to General Dynamics (UK) Limited meant that there will be more British jobs than if British Aerospace Electronic Systems had been successful because much of their production would have been in Sweden. The new Scout vehicle will contain some of the most advanced military technology available and will play a huge role in ensuring that the British Army maximises its effectiveness in whatever military arena it is deployed. I am truly delighted that much of the research, development and much of the production of this new vehicle will take place in the Caerphilly Borough.

Dr Roger’s Gardening Surgery

Poppy Love One of my favourite summer flowers, and I only have about five hundred, are poppies. They are so striking and vivid in their colours – it is no wonder that over the years that poppy flowers have been used as symbols of important causes, such as the powerful and emotive remembrance services each November. Now is a great time to plant some little Poppy plants; they will often burst into flower over the next month or so, and most varieties will come back year after year - forming bold chunky clumps of summer colour, that will make you go ‘all warm and fuzzy’ even if you are just glancing at them from a distance. I guess that is one of the benefits of poppies is that you don’t have to cram it in to a space near the house, in a garden hotspot, you can hide it further away among other plants, and just leave it to come up and ‘do its thing’ each summer. Don’t forget that the big red poppies will easily make a plant two feet across, so even though they can look a little insignificant initially…stand back and watch them grow!

If Red isn’t your colour, don’t worry you can easily find pink and white varieties too. And did you know that we have our own ‘Welsh Poppy’? Well aye! Meconopsis Cambrica is a smaller poppy flower, only getting about one foot across, and comes in lovely cheerful shades of yellow and orange, not only do I love them but so do insects and bees – drawn but their vivid colours and nectar. These welsh poppies are, as you would expect of something from Wales, quite persistent; often ‘naturalising into lovely drifts and clumps of plants as they spread their seeds each year. So come on lets spread a little poppy love! It is always good to hear from you on 07891 285 166 or apairofcrookes@lcsuk.net.

Spice of the month Cinnamon A sweet warm spice used in drinks, desserts and even curries. True cinnamon comes from a small evergreen tree, Cinnamon zeylanicum, which grows in Sri Lanka. Thin strips of the inner bark are peeled off the tree, rolled into thin sticks and dried ready for sale in this form or ground into powder. Cinnamon is used to flavour milk puddings, fruit dishes, cakes and biscuits. It also works well with Mediterranean and Mexican meat dishes and is one of the ingredients in curry powder. Often added to drinks such as hot chocolate, coffee and mulled wine, the sweet, warm scent is enjoyed on cold days. As well as its uses as a flavouring, cinnamon has several medicinal properties. It is one of the few spices that can be eaten in its pure form and is said to help fight colds and coughs. Cinnamon’s warming properties help with cold hands and feet, chilblains and other chills. It’s also helpful

in preventing nausea and the essential oil is a good antibacterial and antifungal. Other uses are currently being tested and it is hoped that cinnamon will provide assistance to lower cholesterol and stabilise insulin levels in Type II diabetes patients. Products from the Cassia tree, a close relative to cinnamon, are also sold as “cinnamon” but don’t have the same medical properties.

Health Watch | Coping with Stress to do everything yourself. Most of us try to do too much, feeling we have to constantly prove our worth. •

Stop trying to multitask and concentrate on each job in isolation until completed. By juggling too many tasks at once we can easily feel that we aren’t accomplishing anything. Pick the most important item that has to be finished and deal with that first.

Making lists and ticking items off as you do them can add to a sense of achievement. It’s all too easy to get to the end of a day and only see the things that still have to be done, rather than congratulating yourself on what you have achieved.

Even teenagers find themselves stressed these days with the pressure to do well in exams. We cannot do much to change the economic climate or the need to succeed but there are steps we can take to ease the emotional fallout.

Take regular breaks at work. Even if all you do is walk around the office, or go downstairs and come back up again, moving away from your desk gives your mind chance to relax.

First of all, what does stress look like? If you find any of the following are ongoing problems in your or your teenager’s life, then you or they might be suffering from stress: • Irritability and seeming ‘down’ • Nail biting or hair tugging/chewing • Oversensitivity to criticism • Sleep patterns disrupted • Upset stomach or change in eating patterns • Increase in alcohol use or smoking • Difficulty in concentrating

Find someone safe to talk to. We all need to put our fears into words occasionally. For teenagers it can really help by sharing their feelings on Facebook or other social sites.

Let your anger out by hitting a cushion or by going somewhere alone and screaming.

Get lots of fresh air – this will aid relaxation.

Have ten minute ‘you’ sessions. Set aside definite times when only you matter. This could be in the bath, or going for a walk alone, or anywhere where you can switch off the outside world and let your mind wander freely.

With so many of us facing financial insecurity and fears over our job prospects, it’s hardly surprising that greater numbers than ever are suffering from stress.

Recognising the symptoms and accepting that you are in a stressed state is half the battle. The next step is learning to cope with the condition. It’s quite possible that you cannot do anything about the underlying causes, especially if it is finance and/or work related, but you can learn to ease the symptoms. Make simple changes to your life. Don’t try to do everything on this list all in one go, you’ll only add to your stress levels. Pick one thing you feel you can incorporate easily and do that. You’ll feel the benefits almost immediately. • Accept help from others – you don’t have Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

Walk away from critical people. Don’t allow others to destroy your self-confidence. When under stress, it is all too easy to believe negative comments, even when they clearly bear little relation to reality. If life’s really getting you down and you’ve started to feel like you just can’t cope, don’t be afraid to see your doctor. They expect to deal with wellbeing issues as well as physical problems.

Petrolheads | Mazda MX-5

Two seats, soft top and rear-wheel drive. Three ingredients that form the basis of a recipe for success. Add in a dash of affordability, a pinch of cute styling and lashings of handling prowess and you’re well on your way to a Michelin Star winning banquet of a car!

Mazda Mx-5 celebrates its 20th anniversary this year…

When Mazda designed its MX-5 it kept things simple. The concept was to recreate a classic British sportscar of days gone by and boy did they crack it. As only the Japanese can, they took the idea we had and made it even better – and buyers lapped it up. The little Mazda has been an unequivocal sales phenomenon for the firm shifting more than 860,000 units since it first arrived on our shores in 1990. But where did the idea to create such a car come from? Well, quite unbelievably, that was all down to one humble journalist’s chat with the head of research and development for the car manufacturer back in 1976. Motor Trend magazine scribe Bob Hall was lamenting to R&D head honcho Kenichi Yamamoto about the dwindling numbers of ‘classic British sports cars’ on the roads and suggested a carmaker should make an inexpensive roadster for the masses. Five years later, Hall was offered a job at Mazda and met the same man he’d spoken to – but by then Yamamoto-san had moved up in the world… to chairman of Mazda Corporation! The chief remembered their chat and tasked Hall with turning the idea into reality. Hall immediately set about putting his great plan for an affordable sports car into place and a competition was set up between Mazda’s design houses in Tokyo and California. Both teams presented their plans on paper, and a mid-engine model was discounted in favour of rear-wheel drive. The second round of judging saw clay models produced and the American team emerged victorious. Their concept, dubbed ‘Duo 101’, was earmarked for production. Mazda commissioned a British company – International Automotive Design – based in Worthing, West Sussex, to build a prototype and after positive reaction from the public, top brass finally signed the car off in January 1986. Three years later it was ready to launch at the California Motor Show – with the name that’s Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

become somewhat of an icon: MX-5. The M stands for Mazda, the X came from ‘eXperimental’ and the five was the project number. But the real key to the MX-5’s success has been just how good each model is on the road. Rear wheel drive, like all good sports cars should be, with sprightly engines that weren’t too powerful, the Mazda was a delight to pilot. In its 19 years, there have been four generations of the MX-5 – all of which have stuck to the original concept closely. The first was with us for eight years and launched in the U.K. in March 1990 costing £14,925. In 2009 the most recent model was launched. This time changes were designed to make it ‘sharper, leaner and greener’ – and give the eight-strong lineup the edge to still win sales. But what really makes Mazda’s little roadster such a success is the fact the maker has stuck closely to the original concept: simplicity, fun and value – all three of which go a long way when it comes to pleasing car buyers. It just seems funny, then, that it took a humble journalist to point that out to a car giant…

Local Recognition

GIRL GUIDING RHYMNEY VALLEY RECEIVE RECOGNITION FROM CAERPHILLY COUNTY BOROUGH At Penallta House, Rhymney Valley Division met with the Mayor of Caerphilly to receive long service certificates and Girlguiding qualifications. The long service certificates marked a total of 330 years of adult voluntary service involving 15 people, spanning the age groups from 23 to 81, and recognizing lengths of service from 5 to 50 years. Certificates were also presented to six Guiders who have obtained Girlguiding qualifications required to run units, or to take girls away on holidays. Last, but by no means least - certificates were presented to girls who have achieved high awards in their sections – a Queen’s Guide award and three Chief Guide Challenge award for the Senior Section girls, and seven Baden Powell awards for the Guides. Deryn McAndrew, the division commissioner said “It is an honour for me to be able to thank all these ladies who have given, and continue to give, such dedicated voluntary service. Particularly in this, our centenary year, I am very much aware of how much we depend on them to give the girls opportunities to expand their horizons and to have lots of fun through memorable experiences”. The Mayor of Caerphilly said “I am enormously pleased to be able to welcome you to Penallta house, and to recognize all the hard work and dedication that is evident here today.” The guiding movement began in 1909 when a small group of young women gate- crashed Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

the Boy Scout rally at Crystal Palace Park in London and lobbied Robert Baden-Powell for ‘something for the girls’. The Centenary is an opportunity to celebrate the impact that the organisation has made on the lives of girls and young women and how modern guiding continues to support over half a million members around the UK to make new friends, develop skills and achieve their full potential in a unique girl only space. Locally, girls take part in activities such as camps and adventure holidays, international travel, community action etc. For the centenary, Rhymney Valley Division is planning a Fun weekend in Caerphilly Castle during the Big Cheese, and promise ceremony in October to mark the end of the centenary year. In addition, some girls are already booked on centenary camps in Wales (Builth Wells) and England (Harewood House), and there are fun days and exhibitions planned in Cardiff, which girls from the valley will be attending. It will be a busy year!! Photo Credit: The Mayor with all the Rhymney Valley awardees

Financial Focus

Financial Focus | Retirement at last You’ve spent years putting money aside into a pension scheme, but what actually happens once you come to retire? Sadly, it’s not as simple as withdrawing all the money. Should you decide to take your 25% tax free lump sum, you must now convert the remainder of your pension pot into an income, which is typically done by buying a lifetime annuity.

for the increasing income to catch up. Calculating the increasing income over the next 20 years would help you see if it’s worthwhile. This is a very important consideration as you are more likely to want to enjoy your income when you are younger.

There are certain considerations of an annuity which you will need to be aware of. These can improve the value for money and protection of income for your loved ones.

You could have a joint annuity with your partner and have a proportion of the income pass to them should you pass away. Typically you could pass on 50, 66 or 100% of the income benefits to your partner.

One consideration would be to choose a guaranteed period, usually 5 or 10 years, this would mean that the income is going to continue to be paid for the guaranteed period regardless of whether you are alive or not. It would be prudent to protect the income for your family in the event of your death.

Remember that more often than not, you do not need to take the annuity with your pension provider. You may be able to get a much better income elsewhere. If you have some health issues (and they need not be serious) you may be eligible for an enhanced annuity rate. This could give you a far higher income. As always, I feel Independent Financial Advice is a must.

You could have your income paid on a level or increasing basis every year. While it may seem attractive to have the income increasing every year to offset the effects of inflation, increasing income can start off much lower than level. It can often take many years

Tesco Crossways supporting Clic Sargent

Tesco launched its charity of the year Clic Sargent nationally this March. Clic is a childrens’ cancer charity which has offices locally, one at Blackwood and Cardiff. Tesco Crossways will again be furiously fund raising at the store, and have events scheduled throughout the year. Some of the themes are to be confirmed, but include Punk Day, Fuschia Day, Doctors and Nurses and a Football World Cup week, with events both inside and outside the store.

Last year Tesco Crossways raised over £3,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, and Community Champion at the store Kath Dawson says that the aim is to surpass that total this year for CLIC. Forthcoming instore and external events will be communicated via the store’s community notice board, and if you would like to be involved please call in to see Kath at the store, or telephone on 02920 427900.

Some of the staff have also taken the challenge this year to participate in out of store fund raising events, with staff planning sponsored swims, mountain climbs, parachute jumps and assault courses!

Thought for the Month

Good Grief Over the last few years we have lost some close family members, and just recently quite a few of our friends seem to be losing loved ones too… These are tough times that no amount of training can really prepare you for….but it certainly gets you thinking. How do you do this thing called grief? As a macho bloke, (although you wouldn’t think so to look at me…or listen to me either!), I find it very hard to cry. Sometimes I can feel it bubbling up, but can’t let it out…not very healthy they say. So, I try to make up for it with plenty of laughter! Like most emotions grief is a God given ability; being sad is as natural as being happy. Fortunately God came and showed us how to live – in the life of Jesus – and one of the most famous verses from the bible “Jesus wept” (John 11 verse 35) describes how Jesus handled the news of his friends death, and the sight of everyone’s grief – he quite naturally cried. Most of the friends who I have seen practicing ‘good grief’, also seemed to enjoy good relationships with their parents whom they had lost. I am reminded of the brilliant and yet challenging song from Mike and the Mechanics, which talks about the need to settle differences and enjoy life with your family, before it is too late.

Here are few lines from that song… I wasn’t there that morning When my Father passed away I didn’t get to tell him All the things I had to say I think I caught his spirit Later that same year I’m sure I heard his echo In my baby’s new born tears I just wish I could have told him in the living years The final gift of good grief is the ability to enjoy fond memories of those you have lost; over time, the ability to smile at all those memories, their funny ways, the look they would give you….can still be treasured. But the logical conclusion is, I have to find a way to make sure we have those treasured moments now, while we can - so that I can remember them when that’s all I have. The Legal Eagle

Lasting power of Attorney More than two years ago we looked at the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.This brought about significant changes in the law so far as it relates to granting powers of attorney to others to deal with your affairs. A key change was the replacement of the enduring power of attorney with the lasting power of attorney. We can now reflect on how successful this change has been.

delays with registration causing frustration.

Whereas the enduring power of attorney covered just property the lasting power of attorney can include decisions of personal health and welfare which has been welcomed. This has meant that important decisions about an elderly relatives care can be made within the family instead of by Social Services in the event of mental incapacity. This has clearly been a positive change.

For individuals who are particularly concerned as to a decision affecting their future, personal health and welfare the introduction of the lasting power of attorney has been welcomed. However when the main purpose of the power of attorney is to deal with property the increased costs and delays in registration make taking the appropriate action a hard choice.

On the downside however whereas an enduring power of attorney only needs to be registered when the individual became mentally incapable, the lasting power of attorney must be registered in advance. The new forms were also significantly lengthier than with enduring powers of attorney. This unfortunately led to more expense in legal and court fees and often

Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

However from the 1st October 2009 a simplified application form has now come into place.

All in all the changes are like the proverbial curate’s egg, “good in parts. We will need to see if further changes come about in the future to improve the situation. Leanne Evans - Evans & Greaves

ENQUIRE WITHIN UPON EVERYTHING From a Victorian self-help guide Published in 1884

Do It Well. It is better to accomplish perfectly a very small amount of work, than to half do ten times as much. Good Examples. Much knowledge may be obtained by the good housewife observing how things are managed in wellregulated families. Cleanliness. The want of cleanliness is a fault which admits of no excuse. Where water can be had for nothing, it is surely in the power of every person to be clean. Deadline for our June issue is Weds 26th May at 10am

Our machines cost over £30,000 and are over 20 times more powerful than the small low-grade, electric powered portable machines used by other carpet cleaners. Our machines commonly clean cinemas & bars, so when you call us to clean your home you will experience a far superior & much faster cleaning process, basically the same service as our big commercial clients How does it Work? Our machines are fixed into the vehicles, they run on fuel & have their own water tank, similar to a fire engine, we simply run 2 pipes into your home, the 1st pipe is similar to a jet-wash which sprays our 100% safe detergent solutions into the carpet, the second pipe disperses steam at 240 degrees Fahrenheit hot enough to kill germs, bacteria & all carpet bugs which then gets extracted into our on board waste tank. This process is the best; most thorough clean you can have for your home
