ABOUT // PORTRAIT Gaetano Posterino Gaetano Posterino is Italian and works as dance director, choreographer and ballet master. He completed his dance education at the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto. After a first engagement at the Balletto di Toscana Florence he danced as soloist for a variety of companies e.g. Teatro San Martin, Ballet L'Ensemble de Micha van Hoecke, San Francisco Ballet, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Lucerne Ballet and as first soloist at Peter Schaufuss Ballet and for many years at Wiesbaden Ballet.
His dance career among other stars brought him on stage in over 100 countries. Between 2001 and 2011 he was working many years for Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Augsburg Ballet as choreographer in residence as well as for the International Dance Theater Reutlingen as artistic director and principal choreographer. Engagements as guest choreographer lead him to Theatre Giessen, Theatre Hagen, Mainfranken Theatre >>

>> WĂźrzburg, Tanzhaus NRW in DĂźsseldorf, Aarhus Dance Festival in Denmark, Ballet Istanbul, Metropolitan Opera New York, Bilbao Dance Festival in Spain, International May Festival Wiesbaden, Ballet de Santiago de Chile, Pittsburgh Ballet, Semperoper Dresden and Teatro Massimo di Palermo. Until today he created over 45 choreographies. Since 2002 he is heading his own Posterino Dance Company as choreographer and artistic director. Gaetano received several international awards for his choreographic works and dance performances. With his art he supports also social projects. Objectives are mainly fundraising or the involvement of mentally retarded people into the creation of art. The evolution of a "versatile", contemporary, expressive and aesthetic style As an experienced and creative choreographer Gaetano has his own handwriting in the composition of aesthetic movements. In an interview with the newspaper Reutlinger Generalanzeiger in Oct. 2005 he said: "The classic En Pointe is a highly developed movement technique that allows the dancers a perfect body control and elegance. This technique is the basis of my work, but was and constantly is developed further as a movement vocabulary towards an own 'versatile' and contemporary style by integrating modern-contemporary elements. >>
ART OF DANCE //6
>> Not at all 'classic', but also contemporary is the concept of my pieces. Although there is a concrete content, its implementation into dance and movement is not as assigned in classical ballet to individual actors but multi-dimensional or abstract, though meaningful in the context." In another interview with the newspaper Münchener Merkur in Dec. 2015 he commented on the question about his style like moving softly through water: "I got influenced by my Romanian teacher Magdalena Popa and her creative approch to the Russian Vaganova teaching method. As ballerina she was a star in
Bucharest, but also on an international scale. In the early 80s she joined the National Ballet of Canada as ballet mistress and 'Principal Coach', where I received my education in the affiliated school. Another influence were choreographers like Jiří Kylián, Mats Ek, Nils Christe, Stephan Thoss or Richard Wherlock whose pieces I performed on stage. My country, the energy of Italy may also play a role. And then last but not least all the years as choreographer in residence at Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden and at Theatre Augsburg, where I broadened the base for my style." >>
ART OF DANCE //7
>> During his dance career he was performing well-known classical ballet pieces as well as modern and contemporary works. In his own choreographic creations many elements of both directions can be found, either as unique combination or absolutely pure. This allows a vaste variety of works such as the ballets "From Dark to Light" or "Time Lock", the choreography of an opera like "Ĺ vanda DudĂĄk" or dance theatre like "Through Pina's Eyes" and "Les Noces". At the end of the day he is always able to surprise his fans in the audience and among his dancers with a new and creative approach to the art of aesthetic and expressive dance.//

>>THROUGH PINA'S EYES<< Defragmentation of a Character This latest masterpiece of Gaetano Posterino is a tribute to the great artist Pina Bausch. Nothing more than just perfection is evident in perfection. With regard to movements and gestures Pina was interested in the self, the treacherous, the playful, the unconscious, the child, which lies dormant in every human being and which still can express itself eloquently and accurately if you understand his language. In the piece the four dancers will reflect these aspects through the eyes of Pina Bausch, interpreted through the eyes of the choreographer.

>>LOVE ME IF YOU CAN!<< A Love Story of the Sixties Gaetano Posterino's new work revolves basically around the ever lasting theme of loneliness, craving and search for love. A woman is experiencing love, rejection and passion in the storyline. In a dynamic choreography to soul music of the sixties, the eight dancers are to be experienced closely and individually. The piece follows rather an abstract concept as an approach to contemporary choreography resulting in a story in fragments.
CHOREOGRAPHY & PRODUCTION: Gaetano Posterino // DANCER: Annalisa Piccolo, Ariane Roustan, Aya Sone, Lucas Teodoro and others // MUSIC: Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Temptations, Nina Simone, Brookers T & The MG, Ray Charles, Sam & Dave, The Platters, Glady's Night & The Pips, Fontella Bass

A
musician is well-loved everywhere.
Just one week after marrying Dorotka, Švanda is lured away by Babinský to seek his fortunes in the wide world. Even Dorotka’s unshakeable belief in the power of marriage in the face of it all proves to be of no avail. In the palace of the ice queen, Švanda’s bagpipe breaks an evil spell and melts frozen hearts. He is to be crowned king, and a passionate kiss seals the bargain. Dorotka, however, magically appears and denounces her unfaithful husband; upon denying everything, he is promptly whisked off to the underworld. Babinský returns to his life of robbery – though always ready and willing to help a man in need; in a diabolic card game, he fools the devil himself, thereby saving Švanda’s soul. The moral of the story? Regardless of how much fame your artistry might bring you in far-off lands, true happiness can only be found at home … Or not? This fairy tale on human strengths and weaknesses by Prague composer Jaromír Weinberger was a smash hit in 1927. All around the country, Weinberger’s musical kaleidoscope of pulsating dance rhythms, folksongs and great symphonic intermezzi rang out. The libretto by Miroš Kareš was translated into no fewer than 17 languages. However, political forces in Europe conspired to bring this sweeping success to an abrupt end. As a Jewish composer, Weinberg escaped persecution by fleeing to the USA in 1938 via France. Gaetano Posterino is once again responsible for the complex choreography of this opera with around 20 dancers after previous productions in Dresden in 2012 and 2014 as well for Teatro Massimo di Palermo in 2014.// ART OF DANCE //15

2016 AS YEAR OF DANCE A German Initiative The initiative wants to communicate the impact of dance on society. Germany's contributions to the contemporary dance world are many and varied. From the inception of expressionist dance and dance therapy by Mary Wigman in the early 20th century to the striking Tanztheater that choreographer Pina Bausch made famous in the 1970s, Germany has played an influential role in the way we experience dance performances today. Drawing attention to that influence and to the great diversity existent in Germany's dance world today are the goals of "Tanzjahr 2016" or the "Year of Dance" declared by the Dachverband Tanz, an organization of dance companies across the country.
The Federal Ministry of Culture and Media has since taken on sponsorship for the action. So far in 2016 there have been a lot of fairs and congresses across Germany. Following on that theme at the end of August (Aug. 31 - Sept. 3 // 2016) will be the international "tanzmesse nrw", an international networking event that brings artists and their audience together, this year in DĂźsseldorf. But it's not only large-scale trade fairs that are on the agenda for the Year of Dance. Nearly every stage across Germany will play host to new performances and premieres throughout the year as they pay homage to the country's important position in contemporary dance and >>
>> attempt to confirm the vital role that dance plays in society, as a connector, integrator and high art form. Posterino Dance Company has put its dance theatre premiere "Through Pina's Eyes" at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Sept. 2016 under the motto of the initiative.// Read more on: www.tanzjahr2016.de
