Georgia Farm Bureau is Georgia’s largest and strongest voluntary agricultural organization with nearly 250,000 members. It is an independent, nongovernmental organization. The membership is composed of members who want Georgia to be agriculturally successful, progressive and prosperous.

Formed in 1937 by 50 farmers, Georgia Farm Bureau continues to have a strong grassroots network with 158 county Farm Bureau organizations. Since its inception, the primary, ongoing goal of Farm Bureau is to be a united voice in the legislative arena, to promote farm markets and to provide leadership and assistance to Georgia’s agricultural community. Farm Bureau is local, state, national and international in scope and influence.

A member of a county Farm Bureau automatically becomes affiliated with the Georgia Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau. Farm Bureau members work together to analyze problems and formulate action plans to achieve educational improvement, economic opportunity and social advancement thereby promoting prosperity and growth.

Our grassroots policy development process and county programs assure members of constant contact and input into the programs and activities of Georgia Farm Bureau. PUBLIC POLICY DEPARTMENT

To fulfill our mission and enhance the value of membership, Georgia Farm Bureau is committed to programs that strengthen our support for agriculture, rural Georgia and our members. Farm Bureau programs are an integral part of who we are. Our strong grassroots network of 158 county Farm Bureau organizations are composed of volunteers working to be the “Voice of Agriculture” while strengthening our rural communities.

From the beginning, Farm Bureau has been a family organization with programs and activities designed to involve every member of the family. Many of these programs are specifically aimed at surfacing future leaders for the organization.

You are encouraged to contact your local county Farm Bureau to find out how you can become a Farm Bureau volunteer. Farm Bureau encourages its members to get involved in their organization by working to promote agriculture, build leadership skills, and recognize excellence.

A STRONG LEGISLATIVE VOICE

Our grassroots process is coordinated by the Public Policy Department staff to help Farm Bureau leaders maintain contact with elected officials at the state and national levels. As a member, your voice is also represented by a team of lobbyists advocating for policies and regulations that support agriculture and rural communities.

Notable successes include sales tax exemptions for farm inputs, property tax relief for farm and forest land, protection from onerous environmental regulations, and assistance through national farm policy and disaster aid.

The Women’s Leadership Program provides women in agriculture from across the state with personal and professional development to become leaders in their home, community, and our organization. COMMODITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Commodity Advisory Committees represents 20 major commodities produced in Georgia. The purpose of each committee is to develop communication among Farm Bureau members and to serve in an advisory capacity for the president, board of directors, and staff. Advisory committees help develop policy as it relates to specific commodities and issues that affect producer’s livelihood. Committees represent Aquaculture, Beef Cattle, Cotton, Dairy, Direct Marketing/Agritourism, Environmental Horticulture, Equine, Feedgrains/ Soybeans, Forestry, Fruits, Goats and Sheep, Hay, Honeybees, Peanuts, Pecans, Poultry, Swine, Tobacco, Vegetables, and Water.

AGRICULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM

Agriculture In The Classroom is a statewide educational program providing resources, training and support to schools, educators and volunteers so that they can meaningfully connect children to agriculture. We do this through AITCdesigned lessons and resources, educator training workshops, conferences, newsletters, teacher awards, and volunteer projects and initiatives.

AG EXPERIENCE

The Georgia Ag Experience is a unique STEM based educational program provided by the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture. Our 36-foot mobile classroom showcases Georgia agriculture on the road. We visit elementary schools and community organizations across Georgia and target students in grades three through five. The Georgia AG Experience uses technology and digital learning so students can take a deep dive into different agricultural commodities. We believe that by sparking excitement for agriculture we can help student recognize their role in and identify future career opportunities. We, the voting delegates of the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation assembled on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, do hereby adopt the following covenant with our present and future members.

We believe in maintaining Georgia Farm Bureau as a strong, viable farm organization controlled by its membership. We further pledge to work to improve the economic well being of agriculture and to enrich the quality of life in rural Georgia.

We are committed to providing a strong legislative voice for agricultural, economic, and rural issues at the local, state, and national levels. To achieve this commitment, we will depend upon our grassroots traditions and sustain our not for profit, non-partisan, volunteer farm organization.

We will work to tell the important, positive story of agriculture and its vital role in sustaining America’s economic vitality and national security. To fulfill this pledge, we will work through a variety of programs offered by county Farm Bureaus; Georgia Farm Bureau; public media; as well as member focused publications, radio and television programming.
