Here it is - the first issue of 2012. And with it comes a new look Grapevine. There have been a few different ‘looks’ over the last 16 years, but since taking over Photo the Family Grapevine Group with Nikki (one of the of founders) mid way through last year, we have worked Editor hard to find something that will withstand the test of changing trends and take us through a good few years to come. Some aspects are still a work in progress, but we are happy with the result now and hope readers and advertisers are as well. So keep an eye on the main website (see above on the heading) which is progressing well and will have lots of information to compliment our printed publications in due course. If you have a good look through this issue, you will see quite a few schools have open days in March. There are also reader offers from a variety of businesses i.e. no booking fee applies if you quote a code for a babysitting service and win a subscription to rent books for your child. The Saturday Activity Centre, based in Leapale Lane, Guildford offers children between the ages of 5 -13 something different to occupy themselves on a Saturday morning. Does your baby use colour to recognise objects? Come to the Surrey Baby Lab and find out! The Surrey Baby Lab at the University of Surrey is finding out about the role of colour in infant object recognition. We show babies a series of coloured objects on a computer monitor whilst we record what they look at using a special camera. Parents are with their baby at all times and the session takes around half an hour. The study has been reviewed and given favourable ethical opinion by the University of Surrey Ethics Committee. Little Kickers, football training for little ones! We are starting the 18 months Little Kicks class at Merrow Village Hall on Tuesday's at 9.30am. HeadSpace A dedicated space for young people has opened at Farnham Library. The HeadSpace area has been designed by young people, and the library service is also encouraging young volunteers to promote the space, plan events and decide what books are stocked. Farnham library’s HeadSpace is inviting young people to read books, listen to music, study or simply catch up with friends over a drink or a bite to eat. The area is for the sole use of young people, aged 11-19 yrs, and is part of the library’s drive to cater for residents of all ages. Danielle Watts, who is one of the young volunteers said: “HeadSpace has changed my impression of what a library can be. I wouldn’t have thought I could enjoy myself in a library before, let alone be allowed to chat, listen to music, organise events and decide what books they stock. “I hope that other young people can enjoy the space I’ve helped to create.” Visit Farnham Library to take advantage of this new space. In addition, the P&G Surrey School Games has given over 2500 young people the opportunity to take part in high quality sports competition across the county and the Olympic Torch is set to brighten the communities of Surrey, by hosting the last evening stop in Guildford before it travels through London.
