Wet Area Redesign

REDESIGNING OF THE EXISTING WET AREA GAGAN DEEP IAD B 2012-2016

THE EXISTING WET AREA

ANALYSIS OF THE EXISTING WET AREA Analysis of the existing wet area had to be done in terms of functionality and aesthetics. The standards had to be compared with the existing dimensions and each and every area had to be carefully observed. The faults thus noted had to be listed.

LEARNING: -I learnt how to critically analyze a space. -I learnt how color add as an important element in our space and how it effects the mood created. -I learnt how the first element that we see in any space can create the difference. -I learnt that getting the standards correct in first place solve half the problems.

FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS There is no provision to keep basic toiletries like even a soap case in the bathing segment so each time one needs it, he has to move out from wet area to the dry space and then get it therefore its temporarily kept on the partition.

The nahani trap is right below the tap; when a bucket is placed under the tap; the water gets blocked till the bucket isn’t removed.

The floor is straight in the bathing section. At times the foam sticks to the corners: the water is to be wiped out each time the area is been used manually

There are is no electric switch (connected to lights, exhaust fan or the fan) in the bathroom: so it’s a matter of slight discomfort when one is inside and a person not aware of this switch it off from outside.

The WC is not placed at the center so while cleaning the space around it, one faces a lot of proper as the area to the right of it is not even sufficient for a wiper to get in.

• The mirror placed is a bit too long which slightly overlaps the window panel behind.

There is no provision to keep clothes except the hooks behind the door which are slightly inconvenient to access.

AESTHETICAL ANALYSIS The mirror placed is not aligned to the tile pattern on the wall.

The tiles, WC and washbasin is white (titanium white) whereas the plaster color as well as the floor marble is off-white (cream white) so it does not look nice.

• There is a provision for water storage on the roof above so there is dampness on the walls and the plaster is tipping off.

The blue tiles are not balanced; they are just on two walls whereas the other two walls are completely blank.

DESIRED QUALTITIES OF THE SPACE TO BE REDESIGNED

DESIGN BRIEF • A vanity counter for sufficient storage • Fittings with smooth finishing. • Clear demarcation between the wet and the dry area. • No visual distraction. • Sense of enclosure to a certain extend • Sufficient ventilation • Automated fixtures • A place that helps me REGENERATE> RECREATE> REFRESH • An integrated space (altogether) that depicts continuity and connectivity • A provision to play music • I would redesign my wet area that should be intimate, warm and secure yet uncluttered and spacious in the visual context. • Need soothing light • Provision to keep the toiletries near the bathing area( should be easily accessible) • Proper drainage of water • Coordinated color look for fixtures, wall and floor finishes.
