LOOKBOOK B(ea)ST Collection

The B(ea)ST lookbook This lookbook is the result of a project developed in collaboration with Tingbjerg Library and its citizens about upcycling tshirts in public spaces.

Under the term Biblioteket Skaberværelse this project wants to prototype a new and sustainable way to create maker spaces within the frame of a public institution like the library.

All the tshirts have been found in my closet or in the TIngbjerg Recycle Center. All of them are part of a contemporary phenomenon in fashion called “Fast Fashion”, where the consumerism is the first rule to sell items. All the upcycling techniques proposed are then part of a concept called “Fast Upcycling” as an answer to the fast buy-and-throw-away.

I want to inspire a new conscious use of clothes and suggest new playful ways to fix and modify tshirts to prolongue their life-cycle.

The lookbook it’s a tool to get inspired, get to know how the different techniques look like and make in collaboration with others.

Use it with your friends and make new tshirts that can inspire each other.

Feel free to add techniques and new ways to repair!

CANADIAN SMOCKING The Canadian Smocking is a traditional sewing technique to make fabric manipulations.

It’s used to reshape the surface of the fabric.

First Rule: Follow the grid!

DIAMONDS SHAPES It’s a composition of shapes that create a 3D pattern on the surface of the tshirt. Can be seen as an abstract representation the methamorphosis of the tshirt into a new “beast”.

First Rule: Make as many diamonds as possible!

KINT SEWING Inspired by the Kintsugi technique, an old japanese art of repairing porcelains. With the help of textile glue you can close the holes on your tshirt and “keep track� of them.

First Rule: Create a new galaxy!

It’s beautiful, you cannot see the hole anymore!

STAIN-CILS The technique of stencils and an old dirty tshirt? They are simply perfect together! Make new stencils on stains, marks or just challenge a boring white tshirt with some gold!

First Rule: Make new ones or choose weird fabric!

How long does it take?

-25 seconds.

FABRIC YARN It’s just a way to get a new material from an old tshirt.

The fabric yarn can be used for weaving, knitting with needles of with your hands.

It’s a complete new world to explore!

First Rule: Wish you good scissors!

Fashion is presented as ready-to-wear, something we can choose from, but not engage in.
