Band of Bremen is a very cute item and is fitting for sweetthemed avatars. It has a nice white and cream color scheme and adorable poses. The Bunnie’s Cottontail Heels pose is a personal favorite. For avatar making purposes, it is certainly a buy. Although it is a cute item, the Band of Bremen isn’t worth investing in right now. It may be a good buy at a later point in time, but it is something expensive and the price is dropping. It doesn’t say profit at this point.

The Daily Chance is a long-standing feature that has been on gaia for a while. Recently, the Daily Chance was updated with a new granting system that gives a better selection and higher value of items. For example, the old formula may have previously given you only a house fly or a guppy, but now it seems to grant higher increments of gold and more wearable items, like 100 gold or black silk boxers. A few scarce users have even reported winning 10,000 gold. The new formula better uses the “6 out of 7” logged on days bonus, so there is an incentive to consecutively log in. Another feature that allows you to obtain free things is the Earn Gaia Cash page. You have two options to choose from: the watch videos page or the traditional branded offers page. Watching videos is the best way to go to obtain free Gaia Cash as it’s the easiest to do. The videos grant between 5-30GC, which is a lot for just sitting through a video. What I recommend doing is playing the video on mute. While the video is muted you can do other things, such as posting on gaia, doing homework, or playing video games. As long as you keep the window open for the duration of the video, you will still receive the Gaia Cash. Social Vibe is a goldmine for GC and is easily the best of the four sponsors. The advertisements generally give around 20GC per video and you can watch up to 6-7 videos on one account. This means you can potentially earn 100GC per day! You may be skeptical but it’s relatively possible, see for yourself with the image on the right.

26

Another way to earn Gaia Cash is to complete offers. It is not as effective compared to watching videos for cash. However, if you find something on the offers list that you actually need and want, why not get some Gaia Cash out of it? Do these offers at your own risk; Some of them may ask for your personal information, access to your credit card, or facebook. Not everything is free. Stocking up on Gaia Cash is always a great investment, and it is an even greater investment when you don’t even pay a cent. If you are diligent enough to stock up on free Gaia Cash, my recommendation is to purchase any sealed letters in the cash shop and sell them. You can make an easy 100k by doing almost nothing. Both the daily chance and free gaia cash are small things you can do to boost your account worth. For all of you gold-hungry gaians, I wish you luck in your endeavors and remember that anything for free is wonderful indeed.

We asked several Gaians to create the cover page for us, and the winners would get their designs on the front and back of the magazine as well as an interview. Please congratulate C e r u l e a n and Baba Squid for their amazing work! What was your process for creating the piece? I started with the perspective. One of the major things about fall are the leaves. They are what signals the season so the avatar had to be looking up at the leaves just as some were falling. I think that is one thing everyone does, which is why I choose a high angle. I wanted it to be a bit more personal. Since I had a clear picture of it in my mind, it was easy sketching her out and lining her.

What was your process for creating the piece? I thought of a color scheme then went to work on TekTek.org creating a dream avatar using items released this season and items that fit Autumn while sticking to the colors I wanted. Then I sketched out the avatar in a position I fancied for playing the mandolin, scanned it, did the line art, and colored it.

You were given “Fall” as a theme for your artYou were given “Fall” as a theme for your art- work. What came to your mind first? The first thing that came to mind for work. What came to your mind first? Fall, of course. Halloween, the changing me was the peacefulness of autumn. The leaves and colors associated with the season of leaves, the passing of summer, and how bring such calmness to me. much cooler it is during that season. Do you have an art shop or a deviant art so our readers can see more of your awesome work? I do have an art shop: You can find it here. Tekkit is a Minecraft mod that adds quite a lot to the game. It surpasses the norms of Minecraft that so many of us know and love. This major mod adds machines, magic, ores, new possibilities, and new threats! Normally, diamonds in Minecraft would be the beginning of the end, but in Tekkit it is just the beginning. This is a Tekkit-based story: a story about three roommates as they diverge into the depths of Tekkit. A story of their successes and failures. A story about what they saw and experienced. Chaos, new to the game, was in charge of all machinery. He had done research beforehand on how to build the most basic machines of Tekkit, and was thus the Tech Master. The head builder, String, had incredible talent in the skill of building large and impressive structures. The last member of the trio was Romeo the Adventurer; His nerves of steel allow him to brave the darkness of the underground. They soon set out for a Tekkit adventure. The first day was just like any other in the game: The three awoke and started punching trees. Soon they had amassed enough wood, and after setting out northward they found a picturesque coastline fit for a temporary home. Quickly, they threw together a wooden house, and spent the night planning out their next steps. When morning came they began the advance into the next stage. String dug up some sand and added windows to the home. Chaos got a furnace running and collected their most basic survival supplies. Romeo began to mine downward until he hit cavern space. With all the basics set up, the trio traversed into the caves below. Down in the caves, the group quickly began to gather supplies. Copper, tin, coal, and iron ore soon filled their inventories and chests. Chaos, pleased with his loot, headed to the surface. String and Romeo continued mining. After a while, the duo emerged to the odd sounds of machines. Chaos had spent his time creating machines they had never seen before, much less understood. Chaos explained these new machines allowed him to double the amount of ingots he gathered from ore. String was impressed, and Romeo seemed to have fallen in love - Who wouldn’t be romanced by the thought of having double the resources from the same amount of work? However, it wouldn’t be long before Romeo was assigned a very difficult, very unromantic job. With the basic machines running, Chaos began to plan and scheme. He knew that he could handle the running and crafting of the machines but he would need more supplies to get things running more effectively. String and Romeo happily began to gather the supplies, excited to see what crazy machines would be built next. String was assigned the task of gathering basic ores and coals to be smelted and crafted, whilst Romeo was tasked with diamond collection. They set out on their quests. Chaos continued to build and maintain the machines, upgrading them so they would be able to run all day and night. He also tasked himself with collecting above ground supplies like rubber and wood. String went on, laboriously mining ore, while Romeo set out deep underground to explore the lava filled caverns. It all seemed perfect, save one small thing: They didn’t have any food or armor. Chaos’s machines ate up a lot of the iron leaving the group with gem-based weapons. Unfortunently, with three people, a basic bread farm wouldn’t be able to feed them right away. With little choice, Chaos gathered up what little supplies they had and set out to hunt for food. Could Chaos, with no armor, a mediocre ruby sword, and the last pieces of cooked food find enough to keep the group feed? Would he be able to traverse the night and handle all the evil therein? Or would he perish in the darkness with the few supplies he had?

New York Comic-Con

by A Glass Passenger

New York Comic Con: Largest comic convention on the East Coast, second largest in the USA. With over 100,000 attendees over four days, the convention floods the big apple with so much Otaku culture that it is about to burst. Located on the west side of Manhattan in the James Jarvis Convention Center, the convention is the best place to get the latest on otaku, gaming, and nerd culture. Don’t be confused: just because it is called ‘comic’ con does not mean it only deals with comics. It is a unique blend of all societies that nerds flock to. The weekend started off with the right tone. I got into the Con on Thursday, a day normally reserved to the press, professionals, and die-hard fans. During the first couple hours, the only panels running are geared towards professionals, with content such as introducing new ideas into gaming content, attracting attention to your product, and managing the marketing process for comics and games. Afterwards is where the fun starts. With panels and screenings of shows like Transformers and My Little Pony and special guests like Neal Adams, NYCC offers two dozen different activities for guests to attend. Closing the night and officially kicking off the con is a free concert with Ben Folds Five, a legendary band resurrected by the release of a new CD. They put on a great show. During the first couple hours I walked around, enjoying the open parts of the con without the crowd. I cosplayed a male tribute to Yellow, a protagonist from the Pokemon Adventure Manga series. Notable cosplays I saw from the get go included Deadpool, Vash the Stampede, and several idols. After joining up with some friends who were also cosplaying, we were off. The big showcases were on Friday, Sat-

urday, and Sunday. Some really big names showed up. Friday featured Comedy Central, College Humor, The Batmobile, Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings, Rudy, the Goonies), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Ridley Scott’s ALIEN, Apple, Marvel, Capcom, Adam West (Batman), Kirk Hammett (lead guitarist for Metallica), and Gaia Online. There were also workshops, including How to Play Quidditch 101, and a nerf war with storm troopers from Star Wars. While Friday was essentially comic and superhero day, Saturday was television and game day. The headline feature was a showing of the new Walking Dead season premiere and a Firefly 10th Anniversary Special. Also featured was Halo 4, Superjail, Mass Effect the Movie: Paragon Lost, MAD, Shonen Jump, a charity auction hosted by NYCC, and activites such as wand dueling, stand up comedy, various anime movies, and comic workshops. Saturday and Sunday were a blur. Cosplays everywhere, pictures, and nerds as far as the eye can see. Life sized lego statues and gundams, crazy merchandise, and something for everyone. It was a fantastic convention. Until next time, Gaia. Signing off! 63

For Thanksgiving this year, I was forced to learn how to cook all the turkey and ham that my large family consumes every year. This, my mother informed me, was because I’m going to be twenty-two years old and “the turkey isn’t going to cook itself.” Mostly, she doesn’t want to be cooking my turkey when I move out. Har har, Mother. We started by washing the turkey. Keep in mind, I have never touched a turkey, let alone shove my hands in between the breast meat and the skin or down the neck hole to get the giblet. After “OMG”ing and “EW”ing for 10 minutes, I managed to smear a mixture of butter and a spice between the skin and the breast meat. This keeps the meat moist, as the breast meat can become very dry when you cook it. I didn’t capture any pictures of myself with my hands shoved down inside the turkey because I like my phone and didn’t want to smear butter all over it. I ended up taking pictures of my Mom doing it instead. Picture the face that I made so you can have some idea of what I went through.

Watching my mom stuff a turkey.

Next, we got our roasting pan and put some parchment paper in it to stop the turkey from sticking to the bottom of the pan. We then poured a small amount of water in the bottom to keep the turkey from getting too dry. We popped it in the oven and moved onto the next order of business. Like any family, we have our traditions, and my mom’s apple crisp is one of them. The apple crisp was a walk in the park compared to that darn turkey. Here is my mother’s recipe: Peel and slice 6 (1500ml) apples into a greased 8x8 pan

This makes 6 servings. You can tweak the amount of each ingredient depending on how big of a serving you want to make, just make sure you maintain EQUAL parts!
