The Back Story Have you ever wondered what you don’t get to see in a magazine article or film? As a photographer, sometimes the hardest part of my job is the editing process. Regardless if I am editing my own work or if someone else is making the cuts, it’s always painful to let go of the favorites. Many times the images that get left on the “cutting room floor” are fabulous photos, but they get cut because they aren’t integral to the story. Other than using a few of these outakes in promotions or on my website, many have never been seen at all. I decided to publish a magazine showcasing the “outakes” from photo assignments I have done over many years. After decades of filing these outakes away, I thought I would make use of technology and digital publishing to get them seen and out to the world.

White Nights and Weddings - Moscow In the summer of 2010 I took a journey around the world with my daughter Erin. Our purpose was to create a film about people on six continents who were making our world a better place. We fulfilled that purpose and came back with 150 hours of footage which became Opening Our Eyes. We also shot over 5000 still images on side journeys along the way. On one of those side journeys, we spent a very long June day in Moscow. It was during the “white nights” when it doesn’t get dark until almost midnight. It’s also a time when Moscovites get married and everywhere we went that day, we saw joyous couples in celebration. Here are some of the images that I captured that day in June.
