SCALES

S E N S AT I O N S

We were born in Barcelona, in the Mediterranean. Water is in our sensitivity, in our look, in our skin. We have always felt the need to make it present in our conceptions and imaginations. Water is an incredible design resource to create links: it unites,

VITAM’PARC

prolongs, separates, enlarges, amuses and, last but not least, gives us pleasure. It’s a treasure we have to preserve but also an element we need to control. In these projects, all of them with a powerful liquid presence, water plays different roles and evokes different perceptions.

LAGOH

WATER IS PLEASURE

I participated in the creation of contents for the projects catalogue of L35 and the communication plan that includes external and internal communication, social networks, brand management, content strategy, event organization, crisis prevention, the corporate purpose and the company’s social commitment, among many other aspects. VITAM’PARC

The project was designed to respect the surroundings and minimise the impact on the environment and the landscape, taking advantage of the topography to hide the big volumes from the residential area nearby. Water is the main protagonist and its enjoyment is the main purpose of the project. It is present in different forms: baths, ludic pools, and waterslides.

Puerto Venecia is a large-scale project, a space designed around a central axis whose main attraction is water: a canal and an artificial lake, surrounded by large green, pedestrian and recreational areas, make up an urban park of 25,000 m2 lined with commercial premises, restaurants, and recreational and sports activities. The 6.500m² lake is the key piece of the whole composition. It creates a relation between the northern and southern buildings by simultaneously separating and uniting them RESTAURANT TERRACES

RESTAURANTS

and it is surrounded by comfortable and cozy spaces where social, cultural and leisure relations may occur. The canal turns into an ice ring in winter, while rowing is possible on the lake all year long. A wide selection of plants, as well as ornamental fountains and sculptures, contribute to create a quality urban environment based on principles of environmental responsibility.

In this project the artificial lake is the mirror which reflects all the life outdoors. The leisure facilities amongst small hills are punctuated by a series of milestones along the route: the amphitheatre, a playground, the auditorium, the beach and the restaurant terraces. A specially treated, glazed facade and skylights enable a

connection between interior and exterior. Biodiversity is increased by the green roofs and biological management of the water through the presence of acuatic plants around the lake.

The plan for this headquarters located in Gonesse, north of Paris, is inspired by ethics, efficiency and innovation: three values that represent the company. Its design, based on the “campus” concept, aims to create quality work environments that promote collaboration and prioritize living conditions and user comfort. Two large volumes house offices and showrooms distributed around a garden and two pedestrian walkways: one for clients on the ground floor, the other for employees on the first floor. The main building truly stands out thanks to its imposing two-story glass facade with white concrete slats, crowned by a monumental canopy that gives the entrance the gravitas these headquarters deserve. It is designed around a central garden covered by an ETFE structure, which constitutes the site’s green lung and is visible from all interior areas.

MEET ZURICH Revit Indesign Photoshop

The project proposes an elevated natural park (the Nature Level) where outdoor, sport, leisure and food and beverage activities can take place. These buildings rise from this green space with its diverse geometries, inviting people to walk through and behold the landscape. Below the park, a functional level is located where commercial activities, as well as hotel and office’s entrances take place.

REFLECTIONS

ARCHITECTURE

LANDSCAPE

In this project, we have applied some reflections and ideas that have to do with our design process approach. We find “MEET” as an opportunity to rethink the spaces on a different way. Instead of imposing some kind of abstract ideas to the site, we prefer to stablish an open dialog with the existing elements, trying to understand them. We have tried not to follow abstract ideas as the starting point of the process but to find relations between the existing elements, making decisions from what the site can tell us.

In terms of architectural materiality, two different conceptions are proposed depending on the nature of the elements. On one side, the functional volumes at the Street Level associate to a stereotomic materialization, perhaps stony or metallic coatings. An urban plinth that participates in life and movements that take place at the street level.

As before stated, the project environment condenses many type buildings with diverse functions, but where the complexity of the circulations impairs the readability of the site. The proposal is to harmonise this compendium of atypical service for the area with a qualified public space that opens in the landscape. This intention is possible due to a stratified organization of flows: on the ground, the road axis (Europastrasse) allows to easily cross the site, while access to buildings and pedestrian traffic is on a raised level that brings together the people to a place of nature. This elevation paradoxically allows a better integration into the surrounding landscape, as the green carpet facilitates pedestrian access to public transport, and the reliefs created are adjusted to the extraordinary views and are planted with the same trees that border the neighbouring Glatt River and the surrounding landscape, such as Robles, Sages, Tilias and Maples. The park is also an ecological asset, since the wetlands on the cover ensure the accumulation and infiltration of rainwater, surrounding and hiding in relief certain elements that bring natural light to the interior spaces. The variety of places created by the reliefs is underlined by different types of plantations such as groves, solitary trees, dry and humid meadows, hydrophilic or resistant to prolonged exposure to dry wind.

Visiting the place was essential to start identifying some of the existing interactions as well as to define different strategies which will allow the it’s qualities to be shown. Or dialog with the site has not been done from a demagogic or impeditive point of view; it has been done trying not to hide its complexity: existing and future connections, the wild Glatt River area, air traffic noise, environment-friendly transportation systems as tram or bus, interconnection between the two plots over the Europastrasse, UBS employees outdoor sport routines, etc.

In turn, tectonic volumetries that emerge from the green layer (Natural Level), materialize as true elements that respect sustainable development and end-of-life recycling. Structures and wood coatings a proposed as a natural material with high energy efficiency, rapid construction, durability over time and from sustainable forests. The correct integration between these two strata traversed by the green park, will become “MEET” as a unique, vibrant, innovative, durable and environmentally sustainable complex.

NOU CAMP NOU

During my experience in OAB of Carlos Ferrater, among other projects, I was in the team of the competition “Nou camp Nou”.

AutoCad Rhinoceros Illustrator Photoshop

The proposed image of the stadium is consistent with this urban concept of a monumental icon: the structural logic of the façade proposes a distinguished and contemporary dialogue with the city. This dialogue is modulated across a pedestal element at the base of the stadium (“the amoeba”) which receives the visitor with a volume very close and sensual that reads like a resonance of the stadium and which facilitates connections with the existing urban fabric, the park, the ancillary buildings and entrances to the stadium as a whole.

Barcelona, Spain Master’s Thesis Relator Prof. Mauro Galantino and Prof. Maurizio Milan 2015

The project area is an abandoned thermo-electric factory on the Barcelona’s waterfront. The aim of the project is to create a new cultural district dedicated to artistic production. In the main building, represented by the factory, a new museum of the future’s production is located, while around it buildings for start-up and a new train station grow. The space around the three chimneys is created by artificial movement of the ground which forms a sort of scenario in which the visitor has the sensation of being in an archeological excavation of the industrial era. A new “Rambla” is the heart of the project, which frames the chimneys from its more evocative view.

SAHARA TERRACE Ounianga, Chad Project for a new city Prof. Benno Albrecht 2015

AutoCad Rhinoceros VRay Illustrator Photoshop

The main aim of the project is the protection of the natural heritage of “Ounianga Lakes” in the Sahara Desert. The climatic agents that shaped the territory designing this peculiar landscape are now the cause of its desertification. The evaporation of water, the sandy winds and the uncontrolled expansion of the village risk to damage this Unesco’s heritage. The project is based on a strategy of modelation of the territory: a new project at urban scale based on existing water sources. The new occupation’s model builds a defence system against the destroying force of wind. In this way is allowed the expansion of a self-sufficient village far away from the lakes. The construction materials are extracted from caves in the rocky massifs in the north of the lakes. Every cave works like a storing and filtration system of the lake’s water, generating the principle of a new village.

AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE Modena, Italy Chapel and public square Prof. Mauro Galantino 2014 AutoCad Archicad Artlantis Photoshop

The project consists of the conservation and reconstruction of the chatedral of San Felice sul Panaro after the earthquake of 2012. The project demanded an organic combination between the restoration and the functional renovation with an innovative project that had to contain the new and the old structures. The new axiality of the project frames the new figure of the old bell tower. The form is completely different from the ancient one adapting to the new function of “cannon lumière” which illuminates the baptistery. The baptistery is the soul of the project, symbol of rebirth of a place that has been hurt by a strong shock, but also of a community in continous evolution.
