The research was to understand how a natural landscape can be conserved from the degradation caused due to abandoned quarries and rendering it as a valuable and usable land. Abandoned Quarries in Urban areas i.e. within city limits when untreated remains as an eyesore in the neighborhood with least human interference.
Vetal hill in Kothrud, serving as a peaceful abode of nature amidst concrete clusters around it, attracts a great number of visitors daily. ARAI quarry poses as a barren landscape on the top of the hill. Being a part of Forest area, the quarry strikes a great challenge in its development for human activities in addition to the ecological restoration. The studies about the processes of ecological restoration by understanding existing ecological processes on the site, analyzing the existing topography and micro and macro- climatic conditions around the quarry along with the activities and human participation in the later use of the quarry will help in evolving a sustainable development model.
