THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS SINCE 1828 ELEY was established in Britain by William and Charles ELEY in 1828 and has a long and proud tradition in the manufacture of high standard rimfire ammunition. ELEY now specialises in .22 calibre cartridges and is widely regarded as the world leader with its flagship product TENEX, sold in more than 130 countries.

Eley products received public recognition and were on show at the Great Exhibition.
To continue ELEY’s growth and further expansion, the brothers decided on the brave step of ELEY ‘going public’.
ELEY received the award of the Grand Prix at the Paris Exhibitions of 1898 and 1900.
Manufacturing of both metallic ammunition and shotgun cartridges were transferred to the plant at Witton, when Eley merged with Kynoch.

The name Eley first claimed public attention through an advertisement in the London Morning Chronicle,10 July 1828. The advert promoted the opening of an extensive manufactory that supplied patent cartridges, superior to anything else and hailed as the greatest improvements ever produced in gunnery. Later evidence suggests that the proprietors were two brothers, William and Charles Eley who were adventurous and courageous in developing this infant industry. In 1842, William ELEY’s son took over the business and developed the business in the second half of the nineteenth century, which included a major expansion in 1874, when shares were sold to the public. During this period ELEY won numerous awards for the quality of its products throughout the world, the most prestigious being the Grand Prix, which was bestowed on the company at the Paris Exhibitions of 1898 and 1900. The early 1900’s saw a major development when ELEY became one of the founding members of Nobel Industries alongside the world renowned
Kynoch Company. In 1928 ELEY became a subsidiary of what is now Imperial Metal Industries plc, a major publicly quoted multi-national engineering conglomerate, and currently within the FSTE 100. In May of 2003, ELEY completed a huge investment and relocated to a purpose built factory a few miles away from Witton. Not only does this demonstrate ELEY’s long term commitment as the world’s leading supplier of quality cartridges, more particularly it provided the modern facilities vital for future product research and development - all needed to remain the best in our field.
ELEY received the Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement for developing Eleyprime, a fully automated dry priming system.
Worldwide success at ISSF World Cup events in Sydney, Shanghai, Atlanta and Milan 37 out of 60 medals were won by Eley shooters including 15 gold medals.
Completed huge investment in a historically significant relocation of Eley to a purpose built factory a few miles from the Witton site.
At the Athens Olympic Games a staggering nine medals from a possible 15 were won with shooters using Eley cartridges, including Matt Emmons USA Prone, Jia Zhanbo China 3 Position and Maria Grozdeva Bulgaria Sport Pistol who struck Gold.

ELEY’s flag ship product Tenex was developed in 1951, the concept behind developing Tenex was to provide shooters with rounds built to extreme accuracy and consistency.
ELEY possess extremely high levels of product and system quality, features which are acknowledged by the company’s accreditation to the ISO 9002 European standard.
A key aspect of ELEY’s competitive advantage is the technology used. ELEY’s Autoprime System was developed by the company in the early 1980s and remains to this day the only fully automated dry priming system in the world. ELEY continues its investment in new technology and this is clearly reflected through athlete success shooting ELEY ammunition.
Dominance at ISSF World Cup events, including 14 podium positions in the Prone competition.
The Olympic Games in Beijing was a great example of ELEY’s consistent ammunition, ELEY shooters won 12 out of 18 medals. Chen Ying and DU Li both set new Olympic Records shooting ELEY.

TENEX .22 RIMFIRE CARTRIDGE ELEY can be relied upon to produce the world’s best ammunition for shooters at all levels – right from beginner to Olympic Winner. Tenex revolutionised target shooting when it was launched in 1951. The name itself reflected the confidence ELEY had in this target round, which would potentially allow a marksman to consistently score ten shots in the X ring. We were right to have such faith in this first class target round, as 60 years on, Tenex has exceeded all expectations, long dominating international shooting competitions. During 2011, 70% of World Cup and European medals were won with ELEY ammunition, and more 2012 quota places have been won with ELEY compared to any other comparable product.
06
Our enviable track record has been established from our commitment to investing in the best researchers, technology, manufacturing techniques and materials.
So what makes Tenex so innovative? Advanced engineering within the brass case, loading powder and priming composition is crucial; but it is a series of high tech statistical process controls that manage the production processes that contribute to setting the benchmark. World-Beating Quality
Revolutionary Bullet Shape
Competitive Edge
Tenex represents the pinnacle of .22 rimfire cartridge accuracy. Every aspect of its design and composition has led to the worldwide success of this premium ammunition.
The unique patented bullet shape, which is proven to provide precision performance every time is the secret to its success. A computer-controlled visual inspection of each bullet and an exacting system of process controls, ensure consistent standards at every stage of production. Its temperature-controlled lubrication system also ensures there is consistent chambering and barrel protection, all of which is protected by our enhanced packaging.
We are committed both to engineering excellence and to the continuous improvement of our products, which means we are constantly looking to refine Tenex’s specification so it maintains accuracy and competitive advantage. We test production samples in our sophisticated on-site test range to measure performance to an advanced level of accuracy, - therefore setting new standards in performance measurement. Only after it has passed a succession of stringent quality checks, will the batch be approved for release with the red Tenex label.
Our uncompromising approach to quality and stringent controls at every stage of production, ensures the optimum manufacture of case, bullet and assembly. Control of cartridge ballistics, including the patented Eleyprime, reduces velocity variability, bullet dispersion and rifle recoil.
What’s our secret? Tenex represents a series of major breakthroughs in the production technology of superior ammunition. Extensive testing and medal winning performances confirm that this unique product consistently delivers greater precision than any other cartridge on the market – raising performance standards for all .22 calibre shooters at all levels of competitions.

MATT EMMONS USA Two time Olympic Medallist Matt Emmons is London bound for the 2012 Olympics after winning Team USA’s first quota spot in Munich 2010. Matt later qualified for the quota, through the USA Olympic Shooters qualification system in Colorado, and was announced as part of the USA Olympic shooting team for London.
Matt started competitive shooting at high school, when he caught the attention of the USA Shooting team when he won both the prone and 3x40 events in a 1997 match. From there, he continued to improve and win. At the age of 17, he became part of the National Rifle Team, taking the NCAA Rifle Championship four times running from 2000 - 2004. Matt is no stranger to competing at world level, as he won his first Olympic Gold in the 50m Men’s prone at Athens 2004.
08
This is also where he met Katerina Kurkova, a fellow shooter, and three years later they were married. Matt went on to win a silver medal at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, and is looking forward to winning his third in London. There is plenty of healthy competition in the Emmons house with Katerina holding an Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal, so the pressure is on.

GET THE BEST FROM YOUR AMMUNITION Our rigorous testing ensures that ELEY can guarantee the accuracy of the best .22 ammunition in the world. Good, reliable ammunition is just one factor towards getting the best out of your firearm, we at ELEY understand that other variables need to be taken into consideration. These elements include: n
the make and model of the rifle or pistol used;
the number of times the barrel has been shot and how well the equipment has been maintained.
Strike Depth The diagram shows a cartridge case that has been shot. The indent – where the firing pin has hit the cartridge – is called the strike.
n
All these will define which batch of ELEY ammunition is best matched to your firearm.
It is important to measure the strike depth on the cartridge because this is the point where the primer is activated. A minimum striker depth is necessary to transmit sufficient energy to the primer to cause its ignition and ensure that the cartridge does not misfire. The ideal depth for an ELEY cartridge is between 0.012-0.015in. This depth can be measured using a strike depth gauge.
10
Strike Depth = 0.012-0.015in.
How to store ammunition ELEY ammunition should be stored in cool, dark and dry conditions within a lockable container. When stored in warm conditions, the wax lubricant, which has been specially engineered for easy loading into the chamber, will melt and could damage the barrel if shot. Shooters can be assured that ELEY ammunition has been designed for consistent chambering and barrel protection.
“I wouldn’t have had the success I have had without using ELEY’s excellent ammunition” Rajmond Debevec World Record Holder 3 x 40
Case Numbers Every case of ELEY ammunition has a specific number code printed next to the barcode, which relates to the grade of the product; manufacturing year; the loader on which it was produced; batch number; and the average velocity of the ammunition.

DEBEVEC GOING FOR 8 OLYMPICS Rajmond Debevec of Slovenia is only the fifth shooter to ever compete at seven consecutive Olympic Games. Only one other Latvian, Afanasijs Kuzmins, who competed alongside Debevec at the 2008 Olympics has appeared at eight games, with Rajmond intending to equal this at the 2012 games in London.
Rajmond first started target shooting with a small air rifle at the tender age of 8. It was at the age of 15 that Rajmond became a member of the junior national team, and in 1980 he won his first medal by participating in the Junior European Championship with air rifle.
Achievements
He represented Yugoslavia at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988, and Slovenia in 1992,1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. Highly respected for his skill and expertise in the 3Positions event, Rajmond was crowned Olympic Champion at the 2000 Sydney games setting an Olympic record of 1177p, which still stands today.

I am ready to go to London, to participate in my seventh Olympics with ELEY. Beijing 2008, a Russian and a Georgian shared the medal podium, putting aside the conflict that had erupted between the two countries and providing a lift to a Georgian team that had contemplated withdrawing from the Games.
Panderina & Salukvadze | Beijing 2008
Nino Salukvadze took Bronze for Georgia in the women’s 10m air pistol, with Russia’s Natalie Panderina collecting silver. After the medal ceremony the two posed together for photographers, their arms on each other’s’ shoulders, and Panderina gave Salukvadze a kiss on the cheek.

.22 PISTOL CARTRIDGE RANGE The ELEY Pistol Cartridge range is designed to work for both semi automatic and single shot pistol disciplines. Traditionally, pistol shooters have preferred a round nose bullet due to its superior functioning characteristics in many semi automatic fire-arms. The choice of ammunition is down to personal preference, with some shooters still choosing to use flat nose Tenex, especially in the Free Pistol discipline. Others tend to use a combination of Tenex pistol, Match OSP and Match Pistol.

TOMOYUKI MATSUDA JPN Matsuda from Japan has made a huge impact on the world circuit in both the Men’s Air Pistol and Men’s 50 metre Free Pistol events. Unlike lots of his fellow competitors, Matsuda wasn’t introduced to shooting until he became an adult. The opportunity to learn to shoot came when he joined the police force.
He began shooting at world level in 2002, and now 10 years later he has won four World Cup Gold Medals, medalled at four World Cup Finals and became the World Cup Champion 2010 in both 50m Free Pistol and Air Pistol. Matsuda decided to switch his ammunition to ELEY Tenex just months before the 2010 World Cup Championships after testing it through his Morini Pistol. Matsuda is the first and only Japanese shooter to win the World Championships in both
24
disciplines, having also secured his London 2012 Olympic quota place by winning the World Cup Championship in 50m Free Pistol. These great achievements led him to win ISSF shooter of the year for 2010.
Achievements
Matsuda has continued to shoot ELEY Tenex and throughout 2011 he continued his high level of shooting, winning three World Cup Gold Medals and Bronze at the World Cup Final. Matsuda is a great example of what you can achieve with the right ammunition and firearm combination.

SHOOTING DISCIPLINES AND AMMO ELEY ammunition is known worldwide for its quality and consistent accuracy. This section provides an insight into the various disciplines of shooting which ELEY cartridges are used for.
Three Positions
Prone
Free Pistol
This discipline is a combination of three different shooting positions; Prone, Standing and Kneeling, and is always carried out in that order. Men shoot 3 x 40 shots of .22 ammunition from 50 meters in each shooting position, and women shoot 3 x 20 shots.
The prone position is the position of a shooter lying face down on the ground. It is considered the easiest and most accurate position as the ground provides extra stability.
Is one of three Olympic and ISSF shooting disciplines. It’s considered the purest precision shooting among the pistol events, and is one of the oldest shooting categories, dating back to the 19th century.
Both 3 x 40 and 3 x 20 are recognised by the Olympic and International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF). For beginners we recommend
For more advanced shooters, we recommend our patented flat nose.
26
There is only one pure prone event that is an Olympic and ISSF discipline, this is the 50 metres men’s rifle prone. Prone is also included as the starting position in three position events for both men’s 3 x 40 and women’s 3 x 20.
The pistol used must be a 5.6mm .22 caliber, and may only be loaded with one round at a time. It must also be operated by one hand and not supported by any other part of the shooter’s body.

Rapid Fire Pistol
Benchrest
Sport Pistol
Shooters use a semi-automatic .22 calibre pistol for this discipline, which has an anatomical grip and can be adjusted for the shooter. The pistol has a 5 shot magazine which enables the shooter to shoot 5 shots in short succession, hence the name rapid fire. The aim of the discipline is to shoot a 500mm target from 25 metres.
As the name implies; this shooting discipline is shot from a seated bench, with the rifle supported by a front rest and a rear bag. There are three classes in Rimfire Benchrest; International Sporter, Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint. Benchrest is a shooting sport developed for extreme accuracy.
Sport Pistol is traditionally a women’s discipline, due to the ISSF rules. It combines a single shot precision and a rapid-fire stage, both shot at 25m.

KATERINA EMMONS CZE Katerina Emmons CZE will be competing in her third consecutive Olympic Games in 2012 along with her husband, Olympic Medallist Matt Emmons.
Katerina actually started out with her sights set on swimming and she swam competitively from 1990 until 1997 when she dropped swimming and looked for a new sport. Shooting was the logical choice being the daughter of two-time world champion Petr Kurka, who is now her personal coach. Katerina tried rifle shooting, and soon discovered she had a natural talent for the sport and hasn’t looked back since. Katerina took part in her first Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens where she won a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle.
28
As well as walking away with the bronze medal, she also met her future husband, American shooter Matthew Emmons.
Achievements
Katerina competed again for the Czech Republic at the Beijing 2008 Games. In the 10m air rifle qualifying round, she equalled the world record with a perfect score of 400 points before going on to win the event with a new Olympic record points total of 503.5. Soon after, she claimed her third Olympic medal winning a silver medal in the 50m Women’s rifle three positions. When not shooting Katerina enjoys photography, woodwork, playing the guitar and singing.

ELEY INVESTING IN THE FUTURE Over the past two years ELEY has invested over £1million in new capacity, quality systems and engineers to ensure that it continues to maintain its leading position in the manufacture of .22 sports target ammunition. The investments include new measuring technologies to ensure that the processes continue to meet the exacting tolerances, and new capacity in case and bullet manufacture.
30
The complex nature of the manufacturing processes demand that engineers have a broad range of skills, and ELEY has recently recruited engineers with pharmaceutical, automotive, and control systems backgrounds, to bring fresh and innovative ideas about how to continue to develop Tenex. Managing Director Andrew Lane says “We have an ambitious development programme to continue to improve the Tenex product. However the process
is tremendously complex with many subtle interactions between components, machines and gauges. As a result we find that the optimal solutions are developed in house ...you cannot go out and buy machines to make Tenex! All this means is that we need the best engineers to work on our processes, with world leading quality tools and techniques. In our plans, we already know what the next 10 improvements will be on the
Tenex production lines, which will ensure that every year Tenex continues to get a little better”. Recent improvements at ELEY have seen significant progress in the consistency of the primer dispensing process. The primer charge contributes about 10% of the overall energy in the round, and a consistent priming charge is critical not only for accuracy, but also for recoil and the feel of the ammunition.
Rifle shooters have for many years associated this consistency with accuracy, and Tenex is the round of choice for most leading target rifle shooters. However pistol shooters increasingly recognise this consistency as critical in establishing the muscle memory needed to become a world-class pistol shooter.
Investments will accelerate during 2012; with further capacity and quality developments within the factory, including refinements in the ammunition loading areas, bullet manufacture and customer range. Also critical to ELEY’s success is the continued investment in their people, who are trained in problem solving, leadership and 6 sigma statistical techniques.

JONAS JACOBSSON SWE Jonas Jacobsson of SWE having participated in eight consecutive Summer Paralympic games from 1980 to 2008, has won a total of 16 Gold, 3 Silver and 9 Bronze medals, making him the best performing male Paralympics contestant in history.
Jonas started shooting when he was 8 years old alongside his father and brothers who all took part in some form of shooting, making it a natural choice for him to take up the sport. Jonas began shooting the air rifle and then air and full bore, where he first shot 50m when he was only 15 years old. Jonas has always been interested in a range of sports and has also competed in swimming, basketball and even a little table tennis.
32
Jonas’s first international competition was in 1979, and it was in 1980 that he took part in his first Paralympics and won a gold and bronze medal. Since then Jonas has gone on to participate in every Paralympic Games, gaining at least one gold medal in each. Jonas holds 17 gold medals from IPC World Championships and 23 gold medals from IPC European Championship.
