FOREWORD This fall, Galerie d’Orsay welcomes the changing seasons with an exhibition featuring the atmospheric paintings of contemporary Impressionist painter, Samir Sammoun. Sammoun’s innovative approach and widely celebrated compositions make him one of the most acclaimed Impressionist painters working in North America today. Inspired by his adopted hometown of Montreal and his world travels, this show features the rich landscapes of Canada, the Mediterranean, Paris, his native Lebanon and, of course, Boston. Sammoun continues to attract the attention of scholars and museums alike. For the third year, he was selected to participate in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s prestigious “Give the Arts a Chance” benefit. Additionally, Sammoun has been featured in exhibitions at acclaimed museums including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Marc-Aurele Fortin Museum, the Latino American Museum, and the Plattsburgh State University Art Museum. As an artist, Sammoun began experimenting with his talents at the age of 13 and has lived a life full of love for painting and nature. Like the Impressionist masters of the mid-19th Century, Sammoun effectively captures the light and atmosphere of his subjects. To achieve a warm rich underpainting, Sammoun begins each piece with an application of burnt sienna on the canvas. He then covers the surface with his signature staccato brush strokes. This unique technique of vibrant variations projects fleeting glimmers of light and movement on his canvases. Sammoun states, “I try to make the person looking at my painting feel the color of the sky, the temperature of the air, and the breeze in the apple trees or the wheat stalks.” It is my pleasure to share this exquisite collection with you. - Sallie Hirshberg, Managing Partner & CEO
