Kim Demuth utilises images of both his own but also found, often resourced from old albums that bare little to no trace of their origins. He became interested in vernacular photography from early on, as a means of exploring the space, the worlds of others, but from a distance. Because there is little other than what we see in an unknown image, we have to contribute our own imagination to it. He has developped an optical device to drive his imaginary into the realm of illusion, oscillating between 2D and 3D points of perception – creating an interspace; neither here or there, an ’in between world’ of sorts. The illusionary photographic image is mainly a way of examining and portraying a reflection of the outer world. Like a distorted mirror, his photographic images stare back and query our own skewed perceptions, not to provide answers, but to encourage questions. Most of his practice has been focused upon the notion of escape, as in a way out off where we find ourselves. He never saw visual art as a way out, but more a means to build or create a perceptual route – and to finally realize that.we are trapped within an illusion.
데무스의 작품 대다수는 탈출이란 화두에 근원을 두고 자기 자신을 찾는 곳으로부터 벗어나려 한다. 그는 예술을 탈출구가 아닌 지각적 경로를 쌓는 도구로 보았으며, 그 환상은 그의 예술적 관습에 지속적으로 영향을 미친다. 그의 작품들은 마치 우리가 아는 것보다 더 거대하고, 위대한 것이 있다는 약속과도 같다. 작품 내에는 memento mori (죽음을 기억하라) 라는 자의식이 자리잡고 있어, 불가피한 우리의 ‘출발‘은 우리의 ‘시작‘을 하고자 하는 욕망과 함께 영원히 혼란스럽게 공존하고 있다는 것을 그려낸다. 그는 그가 직접 제작한 이미지와 찾은 이미지를 사용하지만, 공통점이 있다면 결과물이 본래의 모습과는 판이하게 다르다는 것이다. 작가는 이미지들을 능란하게 조작하여, 완성품이 디지털 회화라고 보일 수 있을 정도로 바꾸지만, 그의 작품의 중요성은 기법도 원산지도 아닌, 결실이다. 데무스가 어떤 재료나 기법을 사용했던지 간에, 관객 안에 ‘타자‘의 존재의 믿음을 심어주는 것이 관건이다. 작가는 관객이 자신이 시각적으로 속았다는 것을 이해하면 그 이해가 외부 세계에도 작용을 한다고 믿는다. 이로써 우리는 모두 환상의 세계에 갇혀있는 것이다.

Collapse, instability, and escalation is the primary issue of his work. Territories and fragmentations move beyond appearances, manipulate the beholder's eye and demand to scrutinize, analyse and getting involved. The artist works with perception and manipulation, abstracting fugacious moments into a spiral of different impressions. A struggle of power between oeuvre and beholder, a collision of geometric and human bodies, ironically symbolizing the opposite values of the society we live in.
Territorien und Fragmentierungen dominieren die Werke von Steven Hautemanière, lassen über äußere Erscheinungen hinaus blicken und fordern den Betrachter zu Auseinandersetzung auf. In unterschiedlichen Wahrnehmungsebenen manipuliert er den Blick des Betrachters und abstrahiert flüchtige Momente zu einer Spirale unterschiedlicher Eindrücke. Ein Kräftemessen zwischen Werk und Betrachter; eine Kollision geometrischer und menschlicher Körper, die die gegensätzlichen Werte und Anschauungen unserer Gesellschaft thematisiert.
오 뜨마니에의 작품들은 파편들과 영토로 지배되어 있다. 그들은 겉모습을 지나, 관객이 세심히 살피고 분석하여 관여할 것을 요구한다. 관객의 눈은 여러 단계의 지각작용을 통해 조종된다. 손에 잡히지 않는 듯한 순간들이 여러 추상적인 느낌으로 소용돌이 친다. 작품과 관객의 권력 전투이자 도형과 사람의 형상의 충돌이며, 우리가 속해 있는 사회의 상반되는 가치 기준을 아이러니하게 상징한다.

Abstracted within the landscape the artist features as the protagonist facing the threats of a seemingly hostile bush. The work reference "The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden" with a focus on overlaying a European aesthetic on a physical and intellectual landscape. Starting with self-portraits set amid a featureless black background, van Noordenburg slowly and meticulously hand-etches the photographic surface. Van Noordenburg describes the process of self-nude photography as a "incredible mix between strength and weakness, frustration and content - a feeling of euphoria and adrenaline". Feelings, which mirror his attempts to assimilate within a dominant foreign culture, where minority groups are often treated like second-class citizens. The central figure's way back to "the Garden", his continual search for belonging is impeded by social and political frustration.
헨리 반 누르덴버그는 1975년에 네덜란드의 아메르스포르트시에서 태어났으며, 호주의 브리즈번에 있는 퀸즐랜드 대학에서 예술과 연극을 전공을 하였다. 현재 호주에 거주하며 활동 중이다. 반 누르덴버그의 작품에는 풍경 속에 적대적이고 위협적인 덤불과 작가가 대면하는 모습을 추출할 수 있다. 이 같은 작가의 작품에는 능동적이고 지적인 풍경에 유럽적인 미학을 집중적으로 가미한 것을 볼 수 있다. 반 누르덴버그는 자화상을 텅 빈 검정색 배경에 놓은 후, 세심하게 사진화될 평면에 손수 에칭을 한다. 작가는 이 같은 나체 자화상을 만드는 작업을 “용기와 나약함, 불만과 만족감의 엄청난 혼합체 – 희열과 아드레날린의 느낌“이라고 묘사한다. 그가 얘기하고자 하는 그 “느낌“은 소수 집단들을 2등 시민처럼 보는 대중적인 외국의 문화에 그의 동화되려는 시도를 비춘다. 하지만 이 또한 작품에서 알아낼 수 있듯이, 소속을 찾으려는 그의 노력은 사회적, 정치적 불안이 방해한다.

In ihren LED-Objekten führt Simona Petrauskaite optische Möglichkeiten der Linie und der Spiegelung zusammen. Kompositorische Stützen verschwinden. Linienwiederholungen und Spiegelungen werden zu selbstständigen, rhythmischen Strukturen und ergeben eine komplexe Kontinuität. Die übereinander angehäuften Lichtmuster entwickeln einen unkontrollierten, unkontrollierbaren Sog, eine spontane Unendlichkeit. „Wir sind alle konfrontiert mit der Fragmentierung unseres nicht-linearen Lebens und probieren ständig aus, wie einzelne Teile sinnvoll zusammenpassen, um das Puzzle zu vervollständigen. So wie mich Natur und Geometrie, Licht und Schatten gleichermaßen inspirieren, so versuche ich mit dieser Form, meine persönlichen Erlebnisse zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Die Vielschichtigkeit der Strukturen ist dabei wie Schichten, die die Illusion einer sogenannten Wirklichkeit durchdringen.“
