Why transfer? If you are completing a two-year degree, or if your current school does not provide adequate support services, Gallaudet University is for you! The Admissions Process for Transfer Students Transfer Application Requirements
• Online application, with $50 application fee • One essay • One letter of recommendation from an academic teacher • High school and college transcript(s) • ACT or SAT scores (If you have completed 12 hours of college level English and Mathematics, or a total of 30 hours of college credit, the ACT/SAT requirement may be waived.) • Audiogram (deaf and hard of hearing students only)
Transfer Credits
Gallaudet University accepts college-level credits from postsecondary schools (both U.S. and international). Grades in transfer courses are not calculated in your Gallaudet grade point average (GPA). Official transcripts are required for transfer credits to be evaluated and accepted. If you wish to transfer credits from more than one school, you must submit an official transcript from each school attended. The Office of the Registrar can provide a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) to assist you in planning. There is a one-year residency requirement for all transfer students, involving a minimum of one year of coursework at Gallaudet before graduation.
If You Are a New Signer

We offer to qualified applicants online degree completion programs in Deaf Studies and Psychology. We also offer students with an earned bachelor’s degree the opportunity to earn a second degree. For more information, visit the Office of Undergraduate Admissions website.
If You Are a High School Student Taking College Courses
If you are a high school student in a dual enrollment program, taking both high school and college courses, you should apply as a first-time freshman. We will evaluate your college coursework for transfer credit. Please know that you will still be considered a first-year student for financial aid and housing purposes.

Choose From Over 40 Majors and Minors Our General Studies program leads you into a wide selection of majors, including nationally accredited programs in accounting, business, information technology and social work, and our new Risk Management and Insurance and Public Health programs. We also offer pre-law, pre-medicine, and pre-MBA programs, a self-directed major, and a robust Honors Program. You can take courses at other Washington area universities, and online through a national consortium.
Gallaudet is Affordable U.S. transfer students are eligible for financial assistance. Our tuition and fees are 38 percent lower than the national average for out-of-state tuition, and our students graduate with very low debt, nearly two-thirds less than the national average. Ninety-one percent of our undergraduate students receive some type of financial aid: Merit scholarships, institutional grants and scholarships, and private scholarships. Our students also are eligible for federal grants, work-study, and subsidized federal loans. To apply for federal aid, go to www.fafsa.gov after October 1. Be sure to use Gallaudet’s college code: 001443. You also may qualify for state vocational rehabilitation benefits, or for local scholarships. Our financial aid advisors will help you compile a package that best fits your individual needs.
