Behind every great

career

is a quality

education.

At the heart of the liberal arts is an ongoing conversation between student, teacher and community, elevating all to learners in the exploration of the ways human beings can attain knowledge. Classes at Gallaudet University are small and relationships with faculty are personal, creating an environment where faculty members view the education of students as their priority. The 21st century job market evolves faster than ever before. Students who study the liberal arts at Gallaudet successfully are broad-minded, multidisciplinary, and prepared for the future. By providing a well-rounded education, the liberal arts prepare students at Gallaudet for graduate work in many fields including business, diplomacy, research, science and teaching. The average American changes his or her career path between five and seven times over his or her lifetime, often starting over in a new field. Opting for a liberal arts education at Gallaudet could be the defining choice between merely knowing what you need to know for your next job... or preparing for a lifetime as a professional. The vast opportunities and learning experience I had at Gallaudet University play a vital role in my career as an attorney and administrator at the Federal Communications Commission today. ALUMNI

ROBERT TACKIE Degree:

Job title: Site: Location:

Computer Information Systems, B.S. (currently offered as Information Technology) Branch System Administrator Merrill Lynch Washington, D.C.

The challenging courses at Gallaudet helped me imagine what the working world would be like. Thanks to the Career Center and the three internships I had before graduation (at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, The Smithsonian Institute, and the Department of Labor), I learned the importance of professional networking. Networking helped me land a job with Merrill Lynch. 4

ALUMNI

JESSICA GUPTA Degree: Job title: Site: Location:

Sociology: Criminology, B.A. Analyst U.S. Department of the Treasury Washington, D.C.

I work…as part of a larger program with domestic and international law enforcement to investigate cases involving any number of illicit activities. My work helps deter fraud, which in turn helps keep our national economy and our world more stable. Seeing the results of my work in the news is a pretty neat reward. 5

ALUMNI

ARTHUR CHAN Degree: Job title: Site: Location:

Accounting, B.S. Resources Analyst NASA Greenbelt, Md.

I got my two summer internships at the NASA through the Workforce Recruitment Program, which led to a permanent full-time job. Motivation is a necessity in pursuing your dream job. Working in the federal government can be very rewarding and provides opportunities to show what you're capable of doing. 6

ALUMNI

ANGELA NARDOLILLO Degree: Job title: Site: Location:

Art/Graphic Design, B.A. Chief Graphic Entertainment Artist, Founder AngelaGraphix, LLC New York, N.Y.

My sole advice is to grab the world by the jugular while never confusing luck with hard work. After Gallaudet I earned a living working at an engineering firm, but at night I would hunt down models, fashion designers, and independent contractors to work for free in order to build a creative and credible portfolio that would enable me to strategically navigate myself into the entertainment world. I have graphic credits to over 30 online games and have worked with Disney, Warner Bros., Sony and THQ. 7

INTERNSHIPS

DANA HARMAN Major: Site: Location:

Information Technology Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington, D.C.

I used to think about things in a concrete, hands-on way. It’s been different since meeting and studying with Dr. Alkoby... Partly because she’s deaf like me, but also because of the way she challenges me to think about IT critically. It's great preparation for the future because I use everything I've learned about IT and from my past experience to contribute to the FBI. 9

INTERNSHIPS

TOSKA PEARSON Major: Site: Location:

International Studies Centros Educativos de Nivel Secudario Mendoza, Argentina

Doing an internship in another country propelled me out of my comfort zone and the end result is I’ve become more confident, resourceful, and culturally sensitive. My perspective on life has taken a 180 degree turn. I’m more cognizant of important things that truly matter in life, like relationships. I know now that I also want to work with Spanish-speaking populations and will be 'paying forward' the lessons learned from the gracious and kind people of Argentina. 10

INTERNSHIPS

CLAYTON GROSSINGER Major: Site: Location:

Business Administration Defense Logistics Agency Energy Fort Belvoir, Va.

The internship gave me opportunities to test and refine my skills in the working world. Courses at Gallaudet have taught me about critically analyzing problems–a skill I’m able to carry over to the workplace. 11

INTERNSHIPS

LISA JARASHOW Major:

Site: Location:

Recreation and Sports Programming (currently offered as Physical Education and Recreation) U.S. Coast Guard Miami, Fla.

Gallaudet has given me the self-reliance and confidence to use what I’ve learned to pursue my goals and turn my dreams into action, thanks to the leadership opportunities offered by student organizations and the major courses. I will do another internship and can’t wait to see what adventure I discover next! 12

INTERNSHIPS

CRYSTAL PADILLA Major: Site: Location:

Biology Moores Cancer Center at University of California, San Diego La Jolla, Calif.

My biology professors strongly encouraged me to do at least one internship and I’m grateful for the nudge because the experience helped me to narrow down what I want to do. It’s been a boost to my career search and decision to pursue a career either in a laboratory environment or out in the field. 13
