LARGE WORKS R

ounding out the summer Gallery 1261 presents an exhibition of works both large in scale and effort from a survey of 25 of the gallery’s featured artists. This exhibition aims to showcase each artist individually, highlighting their work as it pertains to their respective genres, however here with one key stipulation, that the work is made larger than what the artist is typically used to working in. While scale may not seem like a particularly shocking or innovative aspect when it comes to art, aesthetically it brings about a myriad of new ideas and details to consider. The exhibition runs July 22nd through August 20th, with the opening reception held on Friday, July 22nd from 6-9 pm. With work from artists crossing a variety of genre’s, the subject matter is diverse in style as well as content. Landscape artist David Grossmann exhibits his signature style in “Autumn Color Patterns”, highlighting the beautiful array of colors that can be found amongst the trees. The piece is 30 x 50”, making it an incredibly immersive piece, one that any viewer can get lost in. Another landscape work on view will be one of Ulrich Gleiter’s pieces entitled “Birches”, the thick texture and energetic brush strokes highlight the artists gestural approach to the piece. Another large work on view in this exhibition from the figurative genre comes from artist Mia Bergeron. “Vanish” is a highly detailed, incredibly realistic rendering of a woman’s face, softened behind what appears to be frosted glass. From images alone, one can discern that this work will be a delight for viewers to take in. Another work within the same genre comes from gallery favorite Vincent Xeus. This work, entitled “The Rest of You Are Just Visiting a Thousand Faces” depicts a crowd with the iconic figure of Marilyn Monroe at its center. The scale of this piece alone is enough to entrance anyone who comes to view it, allowing them an opportunity to marvel at the details of all the different faces, and the incredible effort from the artist in rendering such a scene. Big canvases and big ideas are at the forefront of this exhibition, highlighting the ambition and skill of all the participating artists. What the viewer is invited to do here, which would not necessarily be the case in other exhibitions, is the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the sights and scenes in front of our eyes, granting us the opportunity to soak in all the details, and take a trip into realities forged by another. Participating artists: Mia Bergeron, Suchitra Bhosle, Gregory Block, Scott Burdick, Gordon Brown, Mark Daily, Stephen Early, Teresa Elliott, Rose Frantzen, David Grossmann, Ron Hicks, Daniel Keys, Michael J Lynch, Susan Lyon, Jim Morgan, Catherine Mulligan, John McCaw, David Shevlino, Andrzej Skorut, Robin Cole Smith, Mark Tennant, Joseph Todorovitch, Kevin Weckbach, Aaron Westerberg, Jordan Wolfson, Michael Workman, Vincent Xeus.
