SONNY SMITH: 100 RECORDS In April of 2010 Gallery 16 presented San Francisco based artist, musician and playwright Sonny Smith in his first solo show, 100 Records. The project was a dauntingly ambitious undertaking that bridges his interest in art, music and dramatic form. Smith invited 100 artists to produce album artwork for the covers of fictional bands records. Smith concocted the personas of each 100 ficticious bands, then wrote and recorded two hundred songs (the A side and B side) for each. All of the original artwork will be on display as well as a handmade jukebox that plays all two hundred songs recorded by Sonny Smith and other notable musicians. Artists include, William Wiley, Mingering Mike, Chris Johanson, Reed Anderson, Jo Jackson, Harrell Fletcher, Chris Duncan, Tucker Nichols, Paul Wackers and 91 others!
Sonny Smith 100 Records Volume 1 To accompany Sonny’s exhibition Gallery 16 produced a very special Limited Edition Multiple produced in an edition of 40. The set contains one 16 song Compact Disc of original music by Sonny Smith created specifically for this edition. The set contains eleven signed and numbered prints by some of the countries most influential artists including William Wiley, Chris Johansen,Jo Jackson, Chris Duncan, Jovi Schnell, Ester Pearl Watson, Alika Cooper,Alice Shaw, Paul Wackers, Reed Anderson, Kyle Field and a multiple by Tucker Nichols. Numbers 1-20 will be offered at a special publication price of $300. Numbers 21-40 will be priced at $500.
