We can learn so much during a day at the beach. Or a day at the park, or a day in the woods on a picnic! Nature is all around us. Open your eyes and really look at it! Join my Crisscross girls as they learn about sharks and solve a mystery along the way!

About Criss, Cross, and t Applesauce, Defectives

Leah Criss, Sara Cross, and Aimee Applesauce are best friends.

Leah is 7. Sara is 8. Aimee is 9.

They live on the same street. Leah lives next door to Sara. Sara lives next door to Aimee.

They go to the same school. Leah’s classroom is next to Sara’s. Sara’s classroom is next to Aimee’s.

They ride the school bus together. They eat lunch together. They go to recess together. Sometimes they get in trouble together. They like to solve riddles, mysteries, and puzzles together. Or, at least they like to try!

That’s the reason that one day, the three girls t formed the Criss, Cross, Applesauce Defective Agency. They named it that because those are their names...and also, because “criss/cross/applesauce” is how they like to sit when they are trying to figure out their newest mystery! To the Beach!

Leah Criss, Sara Cross, and Aimee Applesauce were very excited.

Leah’s dad, a newspaper reporter, was taking them all to the beach!

“I am on an assignment,” he warned them. “You have to be good and behave.”

“We will!” said Leah.

“We will!” said Aimee.

“We will!” said Sara.

As they packed their backpacks, Aimee said, “I guess we will have to close our Criss/Cross/Applesauce t Defective Agency until we get back.”

“Oh, no,” said Leah. “We are the t defective agency, and so where we go, it goes, too.”

“Oh,” said Sara, sort of confused.

“Ok. But I do not think we will have any cases, riddles, or puzzles to solve at the beach.”

“You just never know,” Leah warned them. “So be ready for anything.”

Tybee Island

2 two

The beach was called Tybee. It was near Savannah, Georgia. It was a pretty beach with lots of white sand, heaping piles of gray-green waves, and a bright blue sky dotted with white clouds.

“This is a pretty beach,” said Leah. “I think we can relax and have fun here.” She wore a red bathing suit.

“I love the sea oats and the sparkling sand,” said Sara. “I think i will lay on my blanket and get some sun.” She wore a blue bathing suit.

“I’m glad we brought a picnic,” said Aimee. “Let’s go for a swim and then we can eat lunch.” She wore a yellow bathing suit.

“I am going to walk down the beach to the newspaper office,” said Dad. “You girls stay right here. I have asked the lifeguard to keep an eye out for you. I will be back soon.”

“No mystery, Dad?” asked Leah.

“No puzzle, or case, or riddle to solve?” Her dad was always giving them a “case” to work on.

Her dad said, “There is always a mystery somewhere, Leah. Just keep your eyes open and you will find it.”
