Babysitting Lessons & Safety Training

Ages 12+

BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) is an important training program for potential babysitters and parents considering hiring a babysitter. The BLAST program is exciting and interactive, providing extensive training in pediatric first aid, household safety, and the fundamentals of childcare. Includes: CPR certification, current practices for safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, quick reference tools, and more!

Beginning Baking for Kids

Ages 8-13

Do you like to help out in the kitchen? Do you want to understand the science of baking? Do you have a sweet tooth and want to improve your baking skills? Let us introduce you to the fundamentals of baking in this fun and explorative 2-week course.

Minecraft Modders

Ages 8+

Modify and create your own Minecraft® characters, tools, mobs, and more! Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Minecraft Animators

Ages 8+

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies such as Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Mac users can play their project at home, but will not be able to edit the project without a PC. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Explore the art of Oil Painting with David Wheeler. Understand the basics of manipulating paints, perspective, creating and blending colors. Most supplies will be provided but students may opt to purchase a small art kit locally.

Music Video Bash

Ages 12+

“Creating Original Music & Videos from Scratch - You’re the Star!” Do you like writing music? Do you see yourself as having a career in the music industry? In this course, the class will write, produce, and perform an original song. Create your own original music video with hands-on learning in camera movement, storyboarding, sound and editing. The final day of class will feature a music video festival showcasing all completed work! All students will leave class with a copy of their completed video in a easily shareable format!

TEEN FAVORTIES Culinary Career Exploration

Ages 14+

Have you ever watched a cooking show on TV and thought you would like to be able to do that? How do they get all those ingredients to create that beautiful, delicious meal so quickly? Have you seen pastry chefs turn out works of art that delight the tongue? Join us for one or both of these two-week courses which will explore cooking, baking and pastry skills, as well as menu planning. These Culinary Career Exploration courses are taught by our in-house culinary chefs and are a great way to explore a future career and education pathways in the Culinary Arts.

Can You Hack It

Ages 13+

Do you imagine a career in Cyber Ops? This class explores core security skills needed for monitoring, detecting, investigating, analyzing and responding to security events, thus protecting systems and organizations from cybersecurity risks, threats and vulnerabilities. Through the use of Cyber Ops Challenge games students are given an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed for a Security Analyst working with a Security Operations Center team. This course is taught by our In-house Networking instructor Daryl Williams and is a great way to explore a future education and career in IT.
