Donor Wall Honors Named and Endowed Scholorships

When you walk through Moody Hall, pass down the hallway, right before you reach the Library, you will see a new addition mounted on the wall. This past year the Galveston College Foundation had a named and endowed scholarship recognition wall installed.

“Since the Galveston College Foundation was founded in 1996, over 60 named and endowed scholarships have been created by generous donors and supporters,” said Kelly Kennedy, Director of Development and the Galveston College Foundation. “This wall recognizes the people who have invested in our Galveston College students over the years. The plaques name the area of study the respective scholarship supports and whether or not the scholarship was created in someone’s honor or memory.”

“The Named and Endowed Scholarship Wall is about community. The power of community. The impact of community. When you visit campus, we encourage you to look at the plaques. It writes a history of who has made Galveston College the institution it is today,” added Kennedy. “It emphasizes the importance and value of education. The individuals, families, groups of friends, faculty and foundations who have created these scholarships believe in the power of education. It is meant to inspire you as you walk by it. Students should know people believe in them. Other people – those who may never meet a student - believe in helping students get their degrees and certificates. Education changes lives.”

The wall was placed with room for expansion and as time moves forward the plan is to extend it. In 2022, five new named or endowed scholarships were established.
