Applying for Admission

For admission consideration to degree and certificate programs, new students need to complete the following steps: 1. Complete the Application for Admission online at applytexas.org. 2. Submit official transcripts from home/high school and colleges and universities attended. 3. If required, take appropriate placement tests and complete New Student Orientation. 4. Meet with a Counselor, Faculty Advisor, or Program Coordinator to discuss your degree plan and plan your class schedule. 5. Submit evidence of the Bacterial Meningitis vaccination. 6. Register and pay for classes using MyGC on the Whitecaps portal or in person.

Readmission

Previously enrolled students who have not attended Galveston College for one year or more must reapply by completing a new Admissions Application and Residency Questionnaire.

Important Notice For New And Readmitted Students

Pursuant to the Jamie Schanbaum and Nicolis Williams Act, all entering students to an institution of higher education or private or independent institution after January 1, 2012, MUST show evidence of being immunized against bacterial meningitis. (Texas Education Code 51.9192) Entering student is defined as:

a) A new student – a first-time student in an institution of higher education, or the private or independent institution of higher education, including a student who transfers to the institution from another Institution or

b) A student who previously attended an institution of higher education before January 1, 2012 and is enrolling in the same or another institution following a break in enrollment of at least one fall or spring semester.

The bill exempts from the immunization a student who is enrolled only in online or other long distance education courses or who is 22 years of age or older. Other exemptions include:

a) An affidavit from the physician stating that obtaining the vaccination would be injurious to the health or wellbeing of the student.

b) An affidavit form completed by the student that he/ she declines the vaccination for “reasons of conscience,” that includes religious beliefs.

Evidence of the vaccination must be during the five-years preceding and at least 10 days prior to the first day of the semester in which the student plans to enroll. Only vaccines covering the four different types of meningitis (MCV4) are accepted.
