DUAL DUAL CREDIT

Galveston College has created an online version of the New Student Orientation in an effort to better serve our students. Students must have applied to Galveston College and received their GC student ID number before being able to log in to the Whitecaps Portal to complete the orientation. If you do not know your GC student ID number, please contact the Admissions Office for assistance.

Your Admissions acceptance letter provides details on how to access the Canvas system at https://gc.instructure.com to complete the pre-assessment activity for those students who must take the TSI Assessment test, as well as access to the online new student orientation. Please contact the Counseling Center at 409-944-1220 if you have any questions pertaining to the online orientation.

Testing and Registration

Placement Testing

Students may not register for classes until they demonstrate college readiness via exemption using ACT, SAT, STAAR scores, or completion of the TSIA 2.0. Students enrolling in Level One Certificates may be TSI exempt. Please contact an advisor for more information.

Texas Success Initiative

The Texas Success Initiative (TSIA 2.0) assesses students’ college readiness in reading, writing and mathematics. Official test score reports are required for placement/exemption.

Students who do not demonstrate college readiness in any or all areas will be required to enroll in the appropriate developmental course(s). Galveston College offers the TSIA 2.0 in the Testing Center inside the Library at Galveston College. See the Counseling Office to check your TSI status and receive more information regarding the preassessment activity.
