Letter from the Welcome to Gambit’s 7th annual Guide to Giving, a holiday tradition for our readers—from our staff and nonprofit partners. For the past 20 months, our community has faced extreme challenges: the pandemic, its economic toll, and the devastation of Hurricane Ida. And while these crises have required intervention from the public sector, our region’s nonprofits have played an essential role, delivering critical services to community members. Rising to the occasion is nothing new for our local nonprofits. For years, these organizations have had their boots on the ground and their pulses on our community’s needs; they’ve worked tirelessly—and often on shoestring budgets—to make a true difference in the lives of countless New Orleanians. This publication spotlights several of the many nonprofits that have served the needs of vulnerable individuals—our neighbors, friends, and family. We hope the stories in these pages inspire you this upcoming giving season (or year-round) to donate to an organization, to volunteer your time—or if you or someone you know is currently in need, find a resource that can help.

504 -4 56-2622

Our Mission

Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana offers opportunities to people with disabilities and other employment barriers to improve their economic self-sufficiency through training, education, support services and employment. Serving 23 parishes throughout Southeastern Louisiana, we operate three divisions: contracts, retail and workforce development. Each contributes to the community and well-being of others in an important and diverse way. While many charitable organizations may focus on handouts, Goodwill focuses your donations on handups. Your generous donations don’t just clothe the poor, they fund programs that help people with disabilities and other barriers access resources and services to improve their self-esteem and self-sufficiency. By working to habilitate those in need, Goodwill turns your one-time donations into gifts that help people for the rest of their lives. As we look to the future, there are an ever-increasing number of individuals in need of our help. It is only with the continued support of individuals and businesses in our communities that we can continue to do what we do best - put people to work.

Our Mission

For over 35 years, Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast has provided essential services to patients across Louisiana and continues to remain the only provider specializing in reproductive healthcare for low-income and medically underserved individuals. Through services such as contraceptive care, STI testing and screening, LGBTQ+ hormone care, and telehealth services, we’ve served over 10,000 patients at our health center in New Orleans. Our education and advocacy teams continue to fight forward, despite challenges at the state and federal level, including the dangerous Senate Bill 8 in neighboring Texas, which will have a large impact here in Louisiana.
