ROCHE-A-CRI STATE PARK The 300-foot sandstone mesa, from which the park derives its name, once was an island in glacial Lake Wisconsin. The summit, accessible by a stairway of solid white-oak planks, offers a breathtaking, 120-mile panorama. The varied terrains of the 425-acre park at 1767 Highway 13 in Friendship, include grasslands, open cliffs, pine barrens, oak forest, prairie and the meandering Carter Creek. The park has four miles of marked trails.

NECEDAH NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE The refuge features sedge meadow, savanna, prairie, and pine-oak forest habitats. The Refuge is home to dragonflies, whooping cranes, trumpeter swans, wolves, Karner blue butterflies, badgers, and red-headed woodpeckers. Necedah National Wildlife Refuge has one of the largest savanna restorations taking place in Wisconsin. CLAM LAKE ELK HERD Elk were reintroduced to the wild in Wisconsin in 1995. A herd of almost 200 of the animals can be found in the Clam Lake area. Elk can sometimes be viewed along Highway 77 and Highway GG (south to Loretta) in the Clam Lake area (southwest and south of Clam Lake, respectively). It is a good idea to use a National Forest map or county maps to find your way. Road conditions will vary with the season, so drivers should exercise caution before attempting to drive these routes. HATFIELD Hatfield is in the heart of both Clark and Jackson Counties offering a combined total of 320,000 acres of public hunting land and over 235 miles of ATV and snowmobile trails. Anglers can enjoy both lake and river fishing in Hatfield. The lake and the Black River produce walleye, northern pike, channel catfish, muskie, crappie, large and small mouth bass. Several trout streams in the area also provide excellent action for feisty brook and brown trout. LAKES Clark County has seven named lakes with an approximate total of 1,741 acres providing year round fishing opportunities. TRAILS There are over 135 miles of trails in the Clark County Forest designated for snowmobiling, ATV's, crosscountry skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking. BRUCE MOUND The Bruce Mound Winter Sports Area was established in 1948 by the Half Moon Ski Club. This location offers premium skiing conditions with lighted slopes. There are two beginner, two intermediate and four advanced trails with eight slopes for snowboarding and eight for tubing. Bruce Mound is located 12 miles north of Black River Falls on Highway 12/27 to Merrillan, then three miles East on Highway 95 to Bruce Mound Avenue or 15 miles south of Neillsville on Highway 95 to Bruce Mound Avenue.

TURTLE FLAMBEAU FLOWAGE The Turtle Flambeau Scenic Wilderness Waters Area and Trude Lake is comprised of nearly 19,000 acres of water and 35,500 acres of public land. The flowage is a result of the 1926 construction of a dam to create a reservoir. GARTZKE FLOWAGE HIKING, CROSSCOUNTRY SKI, AND SNOWSHOE TRAILS This trail is about 6.5 miles long with various loops. Snowshoe trails also are available. These trails are very scenic, and traverse through a Norway Pine Plantation, upland hardwood and cedar swamps along the Gartzke Flowage. Parking area, restrooms, warming shelter with fi rewood and tables. From Antigo, travel east on Highway F. Once past the Highway S intersection, continue east on Fifth Avenue Road for two more miles. ACKLEY STATE WILDLIFE AREA Originally created in 1951 as an area to manage grouse, this destination includes 400 acres of water and plenty of opportunities for hunting turkey, deer, bear, grouse, woodcock and waterfowl. Ackley Wildlife Area is located on Highway 64, 12 miles west of Antigo.
KETTLEBOWL SKI HILL Kettlebowl Ski Hill is a volunteer-run, community ski hill. It has several rope tows, and great skiing for little kids to young teens, and even older folks. The vertical drop is only about 200 feet and is not too crowded, so you can ski all day. It’s a short ride out from Antigo. There are indoor bathrooms in a nice new chalet, lots of good food and hot dog variety, and lots of great families hanging out and enjoying winter. Kettlebowl also includes 4.3 miles of groomed crosscountry ski trails, and is part of the 13-mile Ice Age Hiking Trail. From Antigo, travel north on Highway 45 to Highway I. Then, go east on Highway I to Highway 52 for approximately eight miles.

Sylvan Tubing Hill Sylvan Hill Park, 1329 Sylvan St., Wausau, is home to the longest tubing hill in the state at 1,200 feet.
