FOX CITIES What is the “why”? I, Karen Hertz-Sumnicht, would never have believed 35 years ago that I would be running my own business within a business. The bricks and mortar of Avenue Art & Co. are what the community sees daily. Our presence in the community has allowed us to participate and give back, while providing good jobs in a small business setting. With our beautiful interior hosting artwork and more, we are often visited by our regular patrons who know us in this light...but, there is more that does not always meet the eye. This is part of the “why”–why we can remain a successful small business and support our passions. Avenue Art & Co. has evolved through the years and slowly developed relationships with other healthcare facilities and businesses with art and framing needs. These relationships are invaluable! Because of these relationships, another revenue stream to our business has blossomed. Healthcare and commercial art and framing have truly become a major thrust for our team. We have an impressive list of customers including Affinity Health, ThedaCare, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Neuroscience Group, Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, Plexus, Foth Engineering, Shawano Medical Center, Bergstrom Automotive, Secura Insurance, Bank of Kaukauna and many more.
Our Health Care and Commercial Services include: • Budget evaluation

• Delivery and installation
• Art specification and selection

FOX CITIES The Fox Cities P.A.C. works to inspire, transform and build community through exceptional live experiences. The Center’s Board of Directors is made up of men and women from throughout the Fox Valley who believe in the Center’s mission and understand why it is crucial to contribute to the region by making it a great place to live, work and play. Beth Flaherty, current board chair, explained how the Center continues to serve as a gathering place for the community to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of life through the arts. WE OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR SHARED EXPERIENCES… Imagine for a moment the difference between sitting alone, watching something on a screen and the experience of coming together in a group to experience a live performance. Whether it’s a favorite band or a lavish Broadway production, people come to the Center, sit amongst people they probably do not know and enjoy a performance together, hear a story or listen to music together and then leave with an experience that connects them. For the duration of the performance, they are part of a community. The Center allows for this sense of community in a beautiful gathering place where people experience the power of the performing arts, together. WE ARE BUILDING COMMUNITY… By attending performances at the Center together, we connect to each other and to our community. The Center recognizes this and enhances many performances with the Community First Community Engagement Series. These activities enrich the patron’s experience through educational opportunities related to the performance. Also, the Center provides a variety of spaces for the community’s use. For example, thanks to support from the Center’s Annual Partners, the Center can subsidize the use of its spaces for local nonprofit organizations to hold fundraisers or an

educational program like ThedaCare’s P.A.R.T.Y. at the P.A.C. It is also important to note that the Center contributes to the economic activity of the community. Patrons visiting the Center spend money in the area buying gas, shopping and eating at restaurants, for example. WE ARE CHANGING LIVES… I am sure each patron could name a performance that has changed or enriched their life in some way. Specifically, the community should know how the Center has powerful impact through its initiatives to use the arts to change lives. For example, the Frank C. Shattuck P.A.T.H.S. program uses the arts to engage disadvantaged youth in finding new ways to express themselves. They use lessons and themes from a performance they attend and apply them to issues they might be facing in their lives. The Broadway League’s Family First Nights® program, supported by John and Sally Mielke, brings families to the Center who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend, allowing them to have a night out and experience the performing arts together. This program also connects the themes and messages from the show to the families’ lives, often inspiring family conversations, improving the entire family dynamic. The power of the arts is truly transformative and the Center is constantly looking for opportunities to make a difference in as many lives as possible. The Center greatly appreciates each member of the Board of Directors and their essential work in advancing the mission of the Center. Together with the staff, volunteers and donors they bring these important programs and an enhanced quality of life to our community through the arts.

FACES OF THE
FOX CITIES The Prairie Home story began back in the mid-1990’s when John & Fran McCarthy starting thinking about the care needs of John’s aging mother, Grace. After looking at many Elder Care institutions, they became aware of the lack of a real emotional connection between the elderly Residents who live in these facilities and those who care for them. This lack of emotional interaction was upsetting to John and Fran, who felt that providing for the physical and health needs of an elderly person is not enough. They believed that the elderly also need emotional and spiritual care. Being a couple of faith and prayer, they felt led to do something about the situation and soon set about establishing a home for the elderly which emphasizes loving kindness while providing full care assisted living. Today the family continues to excel in elder care through Prairie Home Assisted Living and HomeAid Health Care. The two family owned companies are managed by a brother and sister team of Mike McCarthy, of Prairie Home Assisted Living and Kate McCarthy, of HomeAid Health Care. Together they strive to carry on their parent’s vision as they work to provide excellence in care for the elderly and disabled population in the Fox Valley. Prairie Home, a full care Class C CBRF, is located in Menasha. The original House of Grace, named after Kate and Mike’s grandmother, has grown to three buildings (Grace, Faith and Joy) which serve
