Through the bride’s eyes:
Scharf/Mose engaged to wed in late July By Taima Kern | Action Reporter Media
a
At the end of July,
Kristin Scharf and Matthew Mose plan to tie the knot in a ceremony at St. Paul’s Church in Brownsville, standing in the footprints of Scharf’s parents and grandparents, who also wed at this church. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at Whispering Springs Golf Course in Fond du Lac. The couple attended the same high school at different times and it was through friends and siblings that they finally met. They have been engaged for eight months. “We are going pretty traditional with everything,” said Scharf. “My parents and grandparents were married in the same church, and [Mose’s] dad is the pastor doing our ceremony.” The couple has been very hands-on with the planning of their wedding, distributing elements of the set-up and the final ceremony between themselves and their families.

“I will be wearing my mom’s veil that we are re-vamping to match my style,” said Scharf. “My ‘something blue’ is a blue diamond hidden on the underside of my engagement ring which [Mose] designed himself.”
Scharf will be doing most of the flower work herself, with the assistance of a family friend florist. She also did all of the invitations and table name cards herself, while her husband-to-be made wooden table number holders from a tree in his parent’s yard. The centerpieces have been a group effort by Scharf’s family with the assistance of Mose.
“We are doing something old, new, borrowed, blue and of course the garter,” said Scharf. “Wedding photos of parents and grandparents will be displayed at the traditional cake table.”
Extending to the realm of friends, a college friend will be providing DJ services, and a cheer team that Scharf coaches will be setting chocolate covered strawberries at each place setting on the day of the wedding.

Stepping outside of tradition, Scharf adds: “Our rehearsal dinner is a bonfire/ barn party instead of a restaurant, and we have two [maids of honor] instead of one: How can you pick one sister over another?” In addition, both Scharf’s sister and Mose’s brother are music majors, and all of their siblings like to sing. sister has written a song that will be sung by the siblings, while the couple lights their unity candle during the ceremony. The ceremony will also feature a harpist that Scharf has coached in cheerleading for three years. The couple planned a local wedding over a destination wedding for many reasons: Scharf’s family’s connection to St. Paul’s church; their love for the décor at Whispering Springs; Scharf’s favoritism towards deserts from Bryanna’s Bakery; and also so that they could make it possible for friends and family to join them. “Knowing that I will be marrying my best friend is the most exciting thing to me,” said Scharf. “I am gaining an awesome new family, and my family finally gets another boy to even things out a little bit! Having my bridesmaids by my side through it all has been so great, and now I have so many new friends in the groomsmen as well.” l
advice
Q: Is there anything that you wish you would have known about planning a wedding before you started?
A: “I wish I would have just gone with my ideas and not asked people’s opinions before putting them into action. You can do whatever you want, it doesn’t have to be the way ‘everyone’ else does it, but it is hard for other people to picture some ‘different’ ideas and they may convince you to go with the way everyone else does it. Q: What was your greatest challenge in planning?
A: “Listening too much to everyone’s opinions. In the end, it is your wedding, and while it is great to have everyone’s opinions, some decisions should just be made by the bride and groom. You can’t please everyone!”
Q: What was your greatest success in planning?
A: “I would like to think that learning to compromise with my fiancé is one huge success. You always have these ideas of how your wedding will go, but when it actually happens, it is not only your wedding but both of your wedding and you have to learn to be flexible. Meeting in the middle between a Disney castle and full out camouflage theme might not be easy, but it can be done.” Q: Is there any advice from your experience planning a wedding that you would like to impart to brides who are planning their wedding?
A: “It should be fun, not stressful. It is just a day. Of course it is very important, but in the end what matters is that you are making a commitment to spend the rest of your life with someone. If the napkins don’t perfectly match the sashes, life will go on. Have fun, make some memories, and don’t forget what the day is all about!”

Armed with 23 years
of experience in the floral business, Nancy Kohlman has recently embarked on her own floral adventure. After spending many years working for Personal Touch Florist in Fond du Lac, Kohlman’s decision to go solo was about coming into her own as a floral designer, and did not stem from any discontent. “I had to take my chance to fly on my own,” said Kohlman, who is extremely reverent about her time with Personal Touch. Even in the creation of her new logo, a heart-shaped flowering tree with strong roots, Kohlman reflects on the people who have been her roots, her support, leading to this point in her life. She notes that her previous place of employment was comparable to a home nest and that she, the baby bird had to try to venture out and reach beyond her safety net. “This location popped up last year, and I thought ‘Can I? Could I?’” said Kohlman. “There is something to be said about starting a business from the bottom up. You gain a new appreciation for every aspect of it.”

Heartfelt Flowers in Lomira With a soft-opening around Mother’s Day of this year, Kohlman’s shop, Heartfelt Flowers & Gift Shop, visible from Highway 41 in Lomira, is now fully open for business. “I like working in a little town,” said Kohlman, of her new location. “I’ve only been open for a week, and I already have customers who are coming in regularly,” she adds, noting that one gentleman has planned to stop in every other week to get flowers for his wife. fresh flowers continued on page 10 >>>

Kohlman has noticed a recent trend towards succulent “flowers” for floral arrangements and bouquets, over traditional flowers. A succulent is a type of plant with thick, water-holding leaves that prosper in a dry region. The aloe plant is one example. The types of succulents that Kohlman uses for arrangements are ones which have leaves that resemble the fractal features often found in traditional flowers. Kohlman adds that yellows and greys have been heavily influential colors in wedding palates this year, and adds that she has been seeing an increase in earthy designs, including burlap and shabby-chic design elements. l

Forever Timeless Bridal,
2 S. Madison St. in Waupun, is a lot of wedding excitement in a small shop. Offering orderable wedding dresses by large designers as well as a selection of unique dresses on-site including wedding dresses, mother-of-the-bride dresses and prom dresses, the establishment will continue to serve the area despite the change in leadership. New owner Kathy Bazeley supplies wedding dresses by designers Christina Rossi, Reflections by Jordan, bridesmaid’s dresses by Liz Fields and Alexia, and tuxedos by DuBois and Nedrebos, as well as a small selection of accessories. Bazeley took over the four-year-old Timeless Bridal in Waupun nine months ago, renaming it “Forever Timeless Bridal” and maintaining strong ties with the previous owners. “If I was going to go into business for myself I wanted to do something exciting and happy, for the fun of it,” said Bazeley about her decision to enter the wedding business.
