What is your favorite historical site in the Fond du Lac Area? You have to love the historic Galloway House & Village. Fond du Lac is lucky to have such a historic site right in our own backyard, which keeps the past at our fingertips and lets current residents and visitors understand our area’s history. What is your favorite way to spend a day with your family when the snow is falling and the ice is thick on Lake Winnebago? The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is a true treasure for the Fond du Lac Area. Our kids cry when it’s time to go home. We are so excited for the new opportunities we will have for engaging and entertaining play at The Children’s Museum’s new Scott Street location. What is your favorite park in the Fond du Lac Area and why? Lakeside Park because there is plenty for our kids to do. From the great playground areas, to the carnival rides, to the petting zoo, to the large amount of area to explore, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon. It also houses one of the best places to watch softball in the state of Wisconsin.

4 5

Describe your favorite sport to spectate in the Fond du Lac Area? You will always have a good time heading to Oven Island and catching some softball. It’s a phenomenal facility and with three games going at one time, you will always have something to watch. The people of the Fond du Lac Softball, Inc always have the diamonds in great shape and with a large concession stand, you will get all the food and drink you can handle. Oven Island is in the center of Lakeside Park and is surrounded by canals where folks fish and kayak and generally have a great time. Where is your favorite place for beautiful vista of the region? If you drive along County Highway WH or Sunset Drive in Fond du Lac you get a great view of the Fond du Lac/Lake Winnebago region. The entire “East Coast” from Fond du Lac to High Cliff State Park through the Holyland is idealic.

C'mon in.

Joe Rentmeester

Where were the last two restaurants in the Fond du Lac Area that you had an amazing meal? My girlfriend and I recently shared a delicious breakfast at The Oasis Family Restaurant. You just can’t beat their omelets, fries or coffee. If I’m looking for an evening meal to take my girlfriend on a date, we will head over to Ala Roma for some fresh pasta!

If you could have a $1000 shopping spree, what local stores would you choose to shop at? My first choice would be Dutch’s Trading Post because through working there, I know what quality products and services they provide. Plus it doesn’t hurt to upgrade to a new Mathews or Hoyt bow every once in a while. What is your favorite season and what is that “one thing” you absolutely have to do every year in that season? Fall is definitely my favorite season for many reasons. I spend hours hunting in the woods, watching the trees change color and studying how all different types of animals interact with each other. What is your favorite thing to do on or near Lake Winnebago? In the winter I enjoy going to Lake Winnebago to watch Radar Runs. It’s a great opportunity to hang out with friends and family as well as watch snowmobiles, ATV’s and motor bikes scream across the ice at high speeds.

What is your favorite park in the Fond du Lac Area and why? I love going to Kiekhaefer Park for a walk in the countryside. I can climb up the tower and overlook the Fond du Lac region as well as much of the park. It’s also a great place to find geocaches including the one that I hid secretly off the beaten path.

C'mon in.

Patrick Creed, Steven Arndt & Socks Owner-Botanicals Floral Studio (In Fond du Lac’s Busy East Side)

1

What were the last two restaurants in the Fond du Lac Area that you had an amazing meal at? From the heart of downtown Fond du Lac’s resurging arts & entertainment district to the vibrant east side of town and out into the Holyland, there are so many great places to dine so this is a hard question! The two “go to” places for many people that live in Fond du Lac are probably our favorites as well and that would be Theo’s Chop House and Backyard Grill & Bar.

2

Describe the Fond du Lac Area in a few sentences. Very friendly and safe! In fact Fond du Lac is consistently named one of the safest metropolitan areas in the United States. And as owners of Botanicals Floral Studio we come in contact with so many folks on a daily basis from so many walks of life; we are always taken with the fact that this is such a welcoming and friendly town!

If you could have a $1,000 shopping spree, what local stores would you choose to shop at? As You Wish, Cujak’s Wine Market and Fond du Lac Seafood. What is your favorite season and what is that “one thing” you absolutely have to do every year in that season? Summer and we love to go swimming. We have really great pools in the area including Taylor Park Pool which is special because it is outdoors in the middle of a beautiful park and is an Olympic size pool with 6-50 meter swim lanes. Also High Cliff State Park has a wonderful beach. What is your favorite historical site in the Fond du Lac Area? So much of Fond du Lac area history is found at the Galloway House and Village and Blakely Museum on the city’s southeast side. But this is not just a run-of-the-mill museum. The restored Victorian Galloway House is in what is essentially a recreated village and is the site of 25 historic buildings that have been moved to this location and lovingly restored. The Blakely Museum houses a collection of local artifacts and materials from the estates of leading figures from the area.

Betsy Kelley Front Store ManagerKelley Country Creamery

(Wisconsin’s Best Ice Cream Shop! USA Today)

1 2 3 4 5

What is your favorite way to spend a day with the family? Nothing beats packing a picnic lunch, enjoying a competitive game of football with the cousins and ending the day roasting marshmallows, reminiscing and storytelling around a campfire at Mauthe Lake in Fond du Lac County. What is your favorite way to spend a fall day? Taking a drive out on the country roads to a hidden gem called Hamburger Haus and enjoying a juicy burger and great Wisconsin cheese curds, then continuing the beautiful drive through the Kettle Moraine enjoying the changing of the leaves and of course one last stop up the east side of Lake Winnebago for a ooey, gooey Little Farmer caramel apple, delicious! What is your favorite way to spend the day with friends? We like to start the day enjoying a great cup of coffee in the neat atmosphere of the Gift N’ Gab in Pebbles. Then we head downtown Fondy for lunch, a mouthwatering Mexican entrée and an Old Fashioned at the Main Exchange. Just a few doors down the street we treat ourselves to every women’s delight, a new purse at Lillians. To satisfy that late afternoon sweet tooth craving we head out to Wisconsin’s top ice cream shop, according to USA Today, Kelley Country Creamery to tantalize our taste buds. What is your favorite local festival? To start off my summer with a bang, I round up my good friends and head out to Lakeside Park for the annual volleyball tournament at the famous Walleye Weekend. I always have to get the walleye sandwich and stop by Dicks Concessions for a strawberry and cotton candy shaved ice. What is your favorite local parade? The best parade in Fond du Lac County is in Eden, or as we call it The Garden of Eden. To beat the dog days of summer, I head to the Garden of Eden on the first Sunday in August to support the annual Eden Fireman’s picnic and parade. My Friday night starts with delicious fish fry, then Saturday morning the Eden 5K Run and I finish the day with a cold beer while watching Oil Can Harry on the Main Stage. Lastly, I love watching the fantastic hour and a half long exciting parade and getting a belly full of all the candy thrown out at the parade.

Describe a great date night in the Fond du Lac Area. Take a nice scenic drive out to the Holyland and go to one of many outstanding supper clubs such as Blanck’s or Jim and Linda’s. Then come back to Fondy for an after dinner libation at Irish’s Pub in Downtown Fond du Lac.

What is the most adventurous activity you have done in the Fond du Lac Area? The most adventurous thing that I have done is kayaked down the Fond du Lac River. This river twists and turns through Fond du Lac and has a good current if you get it at the right time. In the winter, it makes a great four wheeler ride as well. What is your favorite thing to do on or near Lake Winnebago? Ice fishing is what the big lake is all about. In the winter, small cities of ice shacks form on the ice with everyone chasing perch, walleye and of course sturgeon. Lake Winnebago is considered by some to be the sturgeon capital of North America. What is K-9 Officer Grendel’s favorite place to get in some playtime? The dog park underneath the Johnson Street Bridge (FIDO Park) is the perfect retreat for dogs looking to stretch their legs. Also, Kiekhaefer Park is a great way to let them enjoy nature.

5

Where were the last two restaurants in the Fond du Lac Area that you had an amazing meal? The BackYard Grill & Bar has awesome ribs, but I find it hard not to order the Door County Salad, which comes with their signature flavored butter and bun. The Coliseum, in Downtown Fond du Lac has great chicken wings and gyros, as well as tons of T.V.’s to watch whatever sport you are interested in.

6

Where is your kid’s favorite place to “act their age”? My kids love the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac as well as the YMCA. Both places provide numerous options for them to play and learn.

Kevin Miller

Executive Director, Windhover Center For The Arts

(In The Heart Of Fond du Lac’s Arts & Entertainment District)

1 2 3 4 5 6

Describe the Fond du Lac Area in a couple of sentences: Fond du Lac has fantastic access to Lake Winnebago where our family can windsurf or paddleboard, then we head to Road America for a race and end the day at the Windhover with a nationally touring music act. What is your favorite way to spend a day with your family when a hot wind is blowing off the Ledge and the sun is beating down? Easy, it’s hanging out at one of our downtown events! The Sidewalk Sale, the Commonwealth Bike Race, Fondue Fest, Tour the Town Art Walks and the Farmers Markets …Downtown is resurging! And the Windhover Center for the Arts is in the heart of Downtown’s up and coming Arts & Entertainment District. Where were the last two restaurants in the Fond du Lac Area that you had an amazing meal at? Theo’s Chop House and Dale & Candi’s Cedar Lodge If you could have a $1000 shopping spree, what local stores would you choose to shop at? The Goldsmith…The coolest jeweler in the universe! And it’s right downtown!

What is your favorite way to spend a weekend in the Fond du Lac Area? Take in a gig at the magnificent Windhover Center for the Arts.
