2012 Sail members add volunteerism focus Energetic, dynamic and spirited are just a few words that describe the members of the Sail organization. These members have accomplished a number of impressive things in 2012 under the great leadership of Missy Scherer, Schenck SC. Her enthusiasm is contagious as she works with her committee on planning educational and networking opportunities for the members. The committee also added a new area of focus for the organization: volunteerism. They believe in the importance of giving back to the community they live in and now are actively helping out many of the non-profit organizations in Manitowoc County. Needless to say, The Chamber of Manitowoc County is pleased and proud to support this organization and all of its accomplishments. On behalf of The Chamber of Manitowoc County membership, congratulations to the 2012 Future 15 Award recipients. We have a large number of young professionals within our county who deserve recognition for all they have accomplished and we are pleased to introduce our selection of the “best of the best,” The 2012 Future 15.

What is Future 15? The “Future 15” are young professionals in Manitowoc County who have set themselves apart from other individuals both in their professional and personal lives and are currently making a contribution to the community and will continue to do so for years to come. Recipients of this year’s Future 15 are included inside this publication. The theme for this year’s awards banquet and this section is, “Staying Connected.” Inside you’ll discover different forms of technology that have been utilized throughout the years – some of them continue to be used today. You’ll also read more about the Future 15 and how they utilize technology, along with 15 words that are characteristic to the Sail organization and what it stands for in terms of helping young professionals stay connected. Sail aims to retain, honor community standouts Sail is the Young Professionals organization of The Chamber of Manitowoc County. Sail’s mission is to provide a vehicle for the attraction, development, and retention of young professionals in Manitowoc County. Sail’s primary goals are to attract and retain young talent, provide opportunities for professional development, encourage community involvement and create networking opportunities. Every year, Sail has an annual banquet. Similar to years past, we will be honoring our Future 15 winners at the annual banquet. The Future 15 award is a prestigious award given to individuals who are standouts within their respective field, have proven success and aspired growth as a professional in Manitowoc County. First piece of technology? Growing up, I had technological toys such as a Franklin Wordmaster and the famous original Nintendo system, but I think my first true piece of technology was my Nokia 918 cell phone that was the size of my shoe.

Favorite app? Becky Bradl has worked in public accounting for six years, three of which have been with Hawkins, Ash, Baptie & Company, LLP in Manitowoc as an audit associate. In this capacity, she works on audits of municipalities, school districts and credit unions in addition to assisting on various tax returns. She has her Certified Public Accountant license and is a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Manitowoc Chapter of Women in Management. Bradl was the treasurer for the Manitowoc Jaycees in 2011 and was recognized as the 2011 Most Outstanding Local Chapter Treasurer by the Wisconsin Jaycees. She currently serves as president of the Manitowoc Jaycees and is running for the position of 2013 North East Regional Director on the Jaycees state board. She also is an independent contractor with Becker Professional Review where she provides live instructional classes for the CPA examination review course in Brookfield and Milwaukee, assisting individuals ranging from recent college graduates to chief financial officers to pass the exams offered and become a licensed CPA. Bradl recently began assisting a nonprofit organization that is seeking to build a handicap accessible baseball diamond in Manitowoc called, Miracle League of the Lakeshore. She also has participated in many Jaycee community events including the holiday shopping project to reach out to the needy within the community to provide them assistance during the holidays. Some of my coworkers joke that I tend to be more productive when I have had a dose of Starbucks coffee in the morning. … The app comes in very handy when locating the closest location while on the road, not to mention tracking the perks of their rewards program.

Best piece of technology invented? Without a doubt, the iPad! When I started teaching, there was no doubt in my mind that I needed an iPad to have a convenient, non-bulky way to transport and have access to information and class lectures.

Jeremy Denor’s role as the Innovation specialist at Holy Family Memorial is to help grow the organization in a positive and effective manner. He helps guide leaders and aspiring leaders in investigating new products, services or procedures that ultimately will impact the health of the community.

“I take great pride in trying to provide top-notch health care for everyone in Manitowoc,” he stated. Denor serves as a project manager for designing and implementing new business plans by leading multiple groups every day. In that regard, teams that he has played an important role in include: Ideal Culture Tactic team, Decontamination team, Culture of Commitment work group, Leadership Development work group, as well as Advanced Improvement training. He also has been a volunteer firefighter for the Kellnersville Fire Department for the past four years. They routinely test fire hydrants, clean up tractor spills and clean up mud hazards, as well as help with fundraisers and picnics for the department. Denor is a Big Brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County, participating in an afterschool program at Jefferson Elementary that allows him to play a big part in a child’s life. He also is involved in Toastmasters International, graduating with a Speech Craft certificate of achievement in February of 2012. Manitowoc area community events/fundraisers that Denor participates in include: Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowla-thon, HFM Samaritan Day, Paint the Night Pink, and Love Light Tree celebration. His future personal goals are to become more involved in improving the county through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Peter’s Pantry. His future career goals are to “help Manitowoc County grow economically in a positive manner which includes trying to get more people jobs in Manitowoc. Growth in the community leads to more jobs.” Denor’s wife is Kellie. They were married in July 2012.

My first piece of technology was Nintendo 64, which I had to share with my younger siblings back when I was a freshmen/sophomore in high school. I played games such as “Mario Kart,” “NFL Blitz” and James Bond. It is truly amazing how far video games have come since the “ancient” N64 system!

Best piece of technology invented? The automatic parallel parking feature in the modern vehicles of today is a great piece of technology. I’ve seen some pretty interesting parallel parking jobs, I think this is a great and innovative feature. I know of a couple people off the top of my head that would be more willing to drive circles around an area to find a parking spot rather than attempting to parallel park.

ThomasEllenbecker Middle School Principal | School District of Mishicot

Thomas Ellenbecker has many titles while serving the School District of Mishicot, including its Middle School principal, High School principal, and director of Instruction. In those roles, he is always looking for ways to create better educational opportunities for the students and community.

First piece of technology? (I was) 6-years-old. It was a Walkman with a tape player. At the time, I thought I was big time.

Texter or talker? Definitely a talker and I talk to my wife the most.

Last summer, he was recognized by CESA 7 for his leadership in the mathematics area, writing grade-level curriculum for grades 6 through 8 to meet the rigorous new educational learning standards for math adopted by the state. Many of the Manitowoc County schools and districts have adopted this curriculum to aid in their curriculum changes.

Best piece of technology invented?

Ellenbecker has been an active member of the Mishicot Lions for the past four years, helping at the Chili Feed in January, the pancake breakfast in May, and the concession stand at River Fest in July. All the money raised by the Mishicot Lions goes directly back to the Mishicot community and schools.

Most recently, he has begun to develop closer relationships with The Chamber of Manitowoc County and educational institutions like Lakeshore Technical College, Silver Lake College and St. Norbert College. “These relationships have allowed me to better understand the expectations that our local community has for our students when they graduate from the Mishicot system,” said Ellenbecker. He noted that the partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and the postsecondary institutions has led to Manitowoc County’s successful college and career programming model, implementing an advisement and portfolio process that begins targeting a student’s postsecondary preparation their freshman year. In December, Ellenbecker hopes to have completed his master’s degree in school superintendency. “The additional knowledge that I have gained through this program will enhance my leadership skills and enhance the education within the district,” he stated.

Membership Services Coordinator | The Chamber of Manitowoc County

Stacey Groll is a young professional who started out working in a low-level retail job 17 years ago and worked her way through the ranks into a management position. She is now the Membership Services coordinator for The Chamber of Manitowoc County. She states she is constantly learning new things and always feels challenged. “I don’t have a desire to be anywhere but The Chamber. I feel as though I was meant to work here, and it’s so much more than a job to me; it’s a way of life.” Groll also is a lifelong volunteer, starting as a child when she and her mother volunteered together with the Children’s Center of the Arts. Then when she was a teenager, they volunteered together at the local Heart-A-Rama, and she now serves in a co-chair role for that local charity show. She volunteers yearly at Sunrise Optimist Club events, which help local children.

I cannot live without The Amandas Clutter Rx. I use this app to find new and creative ways to be organized at home and at the office. I would be a mess without this app.

Texter or a talker? I’m definitely a texter in my personal life because I’m a talker in my professional life. When I get home from work, I don’t care if I don’t answer my phone until the next day. It’s just not a priority for me. Texting, however? There are people in my life that I can text and I know I’ll get a response in 30 seconds, but if I called them, they’d be leaving me a voicemail three days later. Thank goodness for texting.

She has been involved in Manitowoc County Habitat for Humanity since 2008, recently elected vice president of the local chapter, serves on their board of directors and is the chair of the Family Selection Committee. She started the fundraiser, Pig to Pig Walk, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the local Habitat affiliate. “I volunteer because I know it makes a difference, and I know that every person needs to do their part to make Manitowoc County a great place to live and work,” stated Groll. “Through my volunteerism, I continue to influence the growth, prosperity, and quality of life in Manitowoc County, and will continue to do so for years to come,” she added. Groll is a 20102011 graduate of the Leadership Manitowoc County program, which “opened my eyes to many things I was unaware of, and I’m a lifelong resident of this county.”

Over the past five years, Sara Greenwood has worked in high school relations for Lakeshore Technical College to help strengthen relationships between area high schools and LTC, as well as high schools and local industry.

“By growing our relationships, we have been able to work together to create several programs which help young people in the county become college and career ready,” she stated.

Favorite app? My favorite app is Dropbox. I can access all my files anywhere and have them on my home and office computer, my iPad and iPhone.

As the K12 Relations manager at LTC, Greenwood serves on several committees and organizations that help prepare young people for college and the workforce. These committees include: Manitowoc County Partners in Education, Project MiniChopper, Lakeshore Area Career Prep Consortium, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Equity Pipeline Project, Sheboygan County Chamber Business Education Partnership, Career Connections planning team, and Project Grill.

Project Mini-Chopper and Project Grill are programs promoting manufacturing careers to high school students in partnership with a local manufacturer. Greenwood is on the board of directors for both programs. The STEM Equity Pipeline Project is an initiative supported by national committees including the National Science Foundation looking for ways to promote STEM-related careers to young people of all ages. She serves as a representative on the leadership team. One of the events is Girls Gaining STEaM offered to fourth- and fifth-grade girls in the spring, which allows the participants to experience six different types of STEM careers through hands-on activities. Outside of work, Greenwood is vice president of Hayden’s Batten Disease Foundation, helping to plan fundraisers and generate awareness about the disease. Since 2008, the foundation has donated more than $150,000 to Batten Disease research, which makes them one of the top fund sources for the national research taking place. She and husband Mike have a 2-year-old daughter Emersyn and a baby boy expected to arrive in mid-February.

Terrilynn Hastreiter teaches the programs of Youth Tractor Safety, Dairy Herd Management, and Farm Business Production at Lakeshore Technical College.

She recently became president of the Manitowoc County Forage Council, working with local producers and agronomists to develop seminars on topics that are relevant to producers and then hosting local field days and banquets for all to attend. She is also actively involved in the Manitowoc County Dairy Promotion Committee, is a coordinator for the Breakfast on the Farm tours and co-chair for the Manitowoc County Fair Ice Cream Parlor. “I find it very important to promote dairy products to all consumers that may or may not be involved in agriculture,” said Hastreiter. She led a group of students to Germany in May last year for three weeks where they stayed with host families and learned about their farm culture.

First piece of technology? I would say my first piece of technology was a cell phone when I was a freshman in college. If I remember correctly, I only was allowed 100 minutes a month and zero text messages. How would we survive with that small amount of minutes today?

Favorite app? Navigation. It tells me where the nearest coffee shop is and then it will direct me right to it. It’s great!

Best piece of technology invented? I would have to say the phone. … I don’t know what I would have done in college, five hours away from home. I was calling home all the time to talk to my mom to get the latest news.

Hastreiter is currently working on her master’s of Business Organization from Silver Lake College with an anticipated graduation day of May 2014 and then would like to become a Dean at the technical college. She would also like to become more involved in sustainable agriculture in Manitowoc County. “I believe there is interest in vegetable farming and products to support communinities, that this could make a significant difference in the community,” she stated. Hastreiter is single, residing in Manitowoc with her dog, Yoda, and cat, Pinch.

Case Manager | Lutheran Social Services

Texter or talker?

Megan Karas has worked two years at Lutheran Social Services – Runaway and Youth Services as case manager for the Transitional Living Program, which provides services for homeless youth ages 18-21. She helps program participants to develop an individualized plan to ensure safe and stable living arrangements. They go through an assessment of needs, life skills training and counseling to begin to make positive life changes. The program helps youth strengthen relationships and expand support systems. It is a goal-driven program that encourages youth to identify and overcome barriers that lead to selfsufficiency.

Best piece of technology invented? The computer/internet because it keeps all of us plugged in to what is going on in the world. We are able to communicate via Skype or Facebook, and it’s easier to access information.

Another part of Karas’ job is being a co-facilitator for the Second Chance programs – On the Right Track and Drug and Alcohol awareness program. The two programs are for first-time offenders who are able to get their first offense expunged unless they repeat the same offense before their 18th birthday. She has given presentations about homelessness and held drives for hygiene products that cannot be purchased with Food Share. Karas was an AmeriCorps member for two years before starting at LSS and received the Youth Worker of the Year Award in 2010 from the National Network for Youth. She is enrolled at Lakeland College, pursuing her master’s degree in school counseling. She will be graduating this spring after completion of internships in Manitowoc and Sheboygan.

If you would have asked me this question five years ago, I would have told you a texter, but today I am more of a talker. The people who I talk to the most are my mom, sister, niece, fiancé and grandparents.

“It has always been my dream and passion to work with at-risk youth and hopefully in the near future, I will get to work within the school system as a school counselor,” said Karas. She would like to coach volleyball at either the junior varsity or varsity level. She coaches club volleyball in Sheboygan for 12- to 13-year-olds. She herself has been playing volleyball since the third grade and loves the game.

Over the past eight years as a financial representative with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Timothy Lukasek has had the opportunity to serve many young individuals and families in Manitowoc County.

First piece of technology? I got a palm pilot when I was a junior in college in 1998.

Favorite app? Pandora. I can listen to any type of music depending on what I feel like at the moment.

Best piece of technology invented? GPS. I love the ability to search for nearby restaurants or parks during the middle of a long trip with kids.

Lukasek noted, “The past few years have been a period of exciting growth for my financial practice known as the West Shore Team.” He and his two partners have made an investment in the practice and community by purchasing the building and employing two office professionals. Within the past year, Lukasek has earned both the Chartered Financial Consultant and Certified Financial Planner certifications. He has also been recognized by Thrivent at its annual sales conference and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for outstanding production. The practice has partnered with nonprofit organizations in the community over the past three years including the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Manitowoc Air Show and Pinecrest Historical Village. They also have helped raise funds for The Crossing, YMCA, Manitowoc Lutheran High School and Lakeshore Lutheran Schools. Lukasek is an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Maribel, serving as church council member, stewardship coordinator, and chairman of the mission and vision committee. He currently teaches Sunday School and coaches youth soccer teams in the spring and fall. He and his wife, Jill, look for ways to show their kids the value of helping others by participating in the Salvation Army’s Christmas program and Relay for Life as a family. She is a member of the Wisconsin Association of Perinatal Care. Romero serves as a clinical preceptor for Bellin College of Nursing students. She also was a key nurse presenter in 2012 for HFM Career Experience, which helps local high school students investigate and develop their career choices. Her future career goal is to become a certified doula, which is a labor educator and coach who assists women and their families before, during and after childbirth. This past summer, Romero became a certified lactation consultant and plans on attaining international board certification to promote the Healthy People 2020 goal of exclusively breastfeeding infants for the first six months of life.

Best app? I currently have an addiction to my “Bubble Shooter” and “Where’s My Water?” games on my Samsung Galaxy 2 phone, which my daughter talked me into downloading. I have to conquer them.

Texter or talker? I would prefer to talk on the phone and most of the time I can talk for long periods of time to just about anyone, but when not convenient to talk I resort to texting, which I usually have close to 1,000 texts a month on my phone.

Best piece of technology invented? I think it is a tie between the Kindle Fire and the iPad. … You can surf the web, chat online, have internet capability right on the tablet, apps for kids and adults are there, you can have hundreds of books and pictures at your fingertips at all times. Also, you can have a built-in camera with you to capture some unforgettable moments.

She completed the certification course for Care of a Child on a Ventilator and now provides respite care as a private, independent nurse for ventilator-dependent adults and children in their homes. Romero’s contributions to the Manitowoc community include participation and fundraising for both the No Cancer Bike Ride and for Relay for Life. She is married to Manuel Romero, and they have two children – a daughter, Olivia, 8, and a son, Eli, 4.

ChadScheinoha Public Works Manager | City of Manitowoc

Chad Scheinoha has worked for the City of Manitowoc for four years as a manager in the Public Works Department, leading a daily crew of up to 36 people and, during snowstorms, up to 60. He has developed standard work procedures for multiple crews and jobs which decrease training time and supervision needs, along with increasing production. He has worked closely with city utility providers and private businesses and contractors, monitoring excavations that they have made and ensuring that the department places pavement patches in a timely manner to reopen the streets. Scheinoha was asked by Mayor Justin Nickels to help out with the city’s Strategic Plan and attended a two-day meeting to learn about forming a strategic plan for the city. Three subcommittees were then formed, and he has been involved with two of these subcommittees.

Talker. When I look back in phone records, Sue Reilly, our Department of Public Works/Engineering administrative person wins for most calls. She helps me with anything administrative that I need, without her I could not accomplish parts of my job.

Best piece of technology invented? Call me old school but, in my job the two-way radio saves me hours when trying to track down our maintenance crews for questions, concerns or changes throughout the day.

Scheinoha is an active member of the American Public Works Association and has taken advantage of this membership by using tools offered to help lead the city department. Outside of his career, he has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past six years, volunteering for their annual Lake Michigan fishing day. He is an active member of the Northeast Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishing organization, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain. Scheinoha is attending Northeast Wisconsin Technical College part time where he plans to receive an associate’s degree in 2013 and hopes to be accepted into the American Public Works Association’s Leadership and Mentoring Program. He is married to Jennifer. They live in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids with their chocolate lab, Buckwheat, and their cat, Jag.

Texter or a talker? Missy Scherer specializes in payroll and small business as an associate accountant at Schenck SC in Manitowoc. She also presents seminars educating colleagues and clients. She became a certified QuickBooks Pro advisor, a Certified Payroll professional and is the location leader for payroll in the Manitowoc office. Currently the chair of Sail, Scherer has worked with the committee to increase membership, attendance and awareness of what the organization has to offer young professionals and their employers. She has been an active member of Sail for four years. Scherer also is a member of the Education Committee through The Chamber of Manitowoc County and actively participates in the Manitowoc County Homebuilders Association. She has networked with the Jaycees and Rotary organizations “to build relationships that allow us to work together on different events in Manitowoc County.” Scherer served as a committee member of Leaderfest that was hosted at Fox Hills in 2012, contacting companies for sponsorship, speaking about Sail at Leaderfest, and welcoming participants through the registration process and breakout sessions. I would say I find myself texting more than talking, however, up until recently I preferred talking. I text my family and friends and occasionally, a client or coworker. Texting can be difficult to follow and talking on the phone sometimes is quicker and there is less miscommunication.

Best piece of technology invented? Wireless internet. It allows you to work from anywhere, stay connected with your friends and family, and surf the internet whenever you want.

“I am working closely with our event planning and marketing teams to make sure we host more family friendly events, branching out in Two Rivers and Manitowoc for events, scheduling events at different times of the day,” said Scherer. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in accounting through Silver Lake College to advance her professional career. “It is also very important for me to continue to serve on committees through The Chamber to provide me with additional skills and networking as well as giving me the opportunity to give back to the community in which I live and work,” stated Scherer.

Max Scheuer started working at Bank First National in Manitowoc two days after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in May of 2010 and has been making a positive impact on individuals in the area since then.

As a Business Banking representative, he has direct influence on the financial future of many people. “My goal while at work is to work hard and do the right thing for my customers,” said Scheuer.

The ability to produce electricity. Can you imagine your life without electricity? None of the electronics of today’s world would work without electricity!

He was part of Leadership Manitowoc County 2011-2012 and now serves on the leadership planning committee. He is the board treasurer at the Bay Area Life Center, has been involved in Sail for the past year and is now on Sail’s planning committee. In addition, he participates in the Economic Development Corporation revolving loan fund and entrepreneurship committees. “The Sail and EDC committees allow me to serve to help create opportunities for individuals and businesses and also to form networking opportunities,” said Scheuer. He also is the treasurer for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church finance committee, keeping accurate records for the church and its current $1,000,000 expansion project. He is a member of Noon Rotary and on the Lobsterfest planning committee. He also volunteers his time as head of the Microbrew Tent at Mishicot Riverfest each year, where 100 percent of the proceeds are returned to civic groups active in the Mishicot area. Developing a mentor program at Bank First is Scheuer’s goal for the near future. His long-term professional goal is to become part of the bank’s senior management team by the age of 30. Longterm volunteer goals include becoming involved in Big Brothers and becoming president of some of the organizations he now volunteers for.

Kory Schmidt, the assistant vice president of Business Banking at Bank First National in Manitowoc, first started out in commercial underwriting at a large regional bank after receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2003. Two years later, he came home to work in the community he grew up in by accepting a credit analyst position with Bank First National. He quickly rose to a management position as lead credit analyst and shortly after accepted a promotion as a commercial lender. He has since grown to manage one of the largest portfolios in the bank while working toward a master’s of business administration degree from Lakeland College in the spring of 2013.

Best piece of technology invented? The smartphone is the best piece of technology invented to date. I resisted for a long time, but now can’t imagine doing my job and managing my day without one. The efficiencies it provides are so valuable. There are very few things I rely on a traditional PC for anymore.

In addition to his achievements with Bank First, Schmidt is a member of the Manitowoc Noon Rotary, Manitowoc County Youth Sports, and is a graduate of Leadership Manitowoc County. Leadership roles include his involvement with Lobsterfest and Kids from Wisconsin committees with Rotary. He has also been coach for the Mishicot Burgundy modified girls’ softball team for the past six years. Schmidt said, “I thoroughly enjoy working with kids and teaching them sportsmanship, social skills, discipline, and most of all how to have fun.” He believes that working with small businesses in the community is having a positive impact on the quality of life in Manitowoc County. “From talking to an entrepreneur who has an idea about a new business to helping an existing business grow and provide family-supporting jobs in our community, I feel my contributions do have an impact,” stated Schmidt.

The first technology that was truly MINE was when I went off to college at 18. I was finally able to get my own cell phone and my own very large desktop computer.

Favorite app? Katie Seibel has been the Student Services coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc for the past two years, helping college and high school students decide their future plans. “I am always trying to find new and innovative ways to help students determine the best path for them,” she stated.

Sadly, I’d probably have to say my Facebook app. As much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s the first thing I look at when I wake up and the last thing before I go to sleep.

Texter or a talker?

Seibel works hard to make connections with people in the community, such as high school guidance counselors and counterparts at other local colleges, because “collaboration is the best way to use our resources the best way possible.”

I’ve recently become a texter. Texting is a great way to stay connected without being an interruption to someone’s day. I probably send a couple hundred texts a month.

She is the unofficial “second in command” when her boss is out of the office. Co-workers come to her with questions about how to handle situations and her boss often asks her to fill in when he is unavailable for important meetings and discussions. Beginning last semester, Seibel began teaching a course on campus called, Career and Life Planning, which is designed to help undecided students explore their interests and career options as well as prepare for their future career. During the past year, she has been working closely with persons at Silver Lake College and Lakeshore Technical College in the areas of recruitment and student life. “Our hope is that we can show students the value of staying in Manitowoc County both as a student and as a professional,” said Seibel.

Raymond Weiss has served as the director of Mission Services for Felician Village since August of 2011, bringing more than 15 years of health care related experience to the position.

He ministers to the spiritual needs of both residents and staff at Felician Village, as well as serving the community of St. Francis Assisi parish as a volunteer youth minister and religious education teacher. Weiss also serves as chair of the Felician Village Ethics Committee, overseeing ethics services, including clinical and organizational ethics, ensuring consistent value-based decision making.
