Lakeshore Aviation is proud to operate its business at the Manitowoc County Airport, providing services to pilots and their aircraft. We opened our doors January 1, 2005 and are now in our 8th year of operation. Like many businesses, we were impacted by the recent economic downturn, but have survived it, coming out stronger and more prepared for growth than ever. We were honored to receive the 2011 Aviation Business of the Year Award from the Wisconsin Aviation Trades Association, and were recently nominated for the Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award. We are presently undertaking a major marketing effort to expand business/corporate aviation in conjunction with internships from LTC. We currently operate one twin-engine aircraft on our Air Charter certificate, and plan to have 3 planes by the end of this year. With that, we will be hiring additional pilots and support personnel as this area expands. Commercial Air Charter is very closely governed by the FAA with stringent operational standards and inspections to provide the highest level of safety for passengers. Our flight school has also been very busy, and we have gained a reputation as one of the best in this part of the state. Our experienced staff works with pilots of all levels, from beginning students to advanced skills. Our seaplane program is the only full-time operation in Wisconsin and Illinois, and attracts students from all over the world. And our flight instructors now teach a Private Pilot Ground School at LTC, an evening class which starts March 20th this spring. We have a small staff of 9, but have an impressive amount of experience. All together, our staff has over 143 years of experience in the aviation field. We currently have a permanent part-time opening to join our talented line service staff. See our website for more information.

In a retail environment crowded with large national and regional superstores and chains, Schroeder’s Department Store inTwo Rivers is a breath of fresh air. While the large chains are largely undifferentiated from each other, Schroeder’s has securely held a niche amidst this competition for more than one hundred years, being founded in 1891 by four Schroeder brothers. Some of the reasons Schroeder’s has thrived for this many years are the high emphasis the store places on personalized customer service, high-quality, brand-name products, and experienced, knowledgeable salespeople, averaging more than 20 years in the business. Schroeder’s has a reputation for being the place to shop for unique, hard-to-find items. Today the store remains family owned, headed by A.J. andTheresa Schroeder. The Schroeder family is now in its fourth generation of service to the community. All Seasons Motorsports and Marine isn’t just locally owned, it’s 100 percent family owned. Started in 2008 on Jackson Street in Two Rivers by Marty and Kelly Pasek, the company carries a broad spectrum of power equipment and products. On the lawn and garden side, All Seasons is an authorized dealer for Snapper and Snapper Pro. It carries walk-behind lawn mowers on up through commercial-grade lawn equipment. Snapper is also the Pasek’s brand of choice for snow removal equipment, which ranges from single stage throwers to two-stage blowers. All Seasons went with Snapper because it is a highly reputable manufacturer with high-quality equipment and faithfully stands behind their products. The reputation of the brands the company carries is also reflected in the chain saws, string trimmers, and edgers. Like Snapper, Dolmar is well-respected in the industry as a leading manufacturer that is responsive and produces high-quality goods. As the name suggests, All Seasons services marine products, including boats, motors, and accessories. For both power equipment and marine, the company services all makes and models. Over the years the company has grown to the point investigating possibilities of expansion, both in terms of adding space as well as a service technician.
While conventional adjustments are still a large part of what Lakeshore Chiropractic offers, recent advances in technology and techniques have allowed the practice to bring care to an even higher level. Cold laser, Cox decompression, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, exercise prescription, orthotic evaluation/fitting, postural alteration, and IASTM are some of the more innovative, noninvasive approaches used. IASTM, in particular, has shown outstanding results for Lakeshore Chiropractic patients. Short for Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation, IASTM treats conditions including epicondylitis, Achilles tendinitis, ITB syndrome, rotator cuff tendinitis, and plantar fasciitis. Benefits to patients include increased satisfaction, better outcomes in a shorter time span, costeffectiveness, quicker return to work and/or athletics, and improved edema control.

Still the same, just better.
Not intending a pun, the roots of today’s Hartman’s Towne & Country Greenhouse date back to the mid 1960s, when the business started as a hobby greenhouse. This hobby soon attracted the interest of others who were interested in flower and vegetable transplants for their own gardens. The good word apparently spread, and in 1985 Hartman’s built a facility at its current location on Nagle Avenue and today has an immense 45,000 square feet of greenhouse space. Spring is prime time at the greenhouse, sporting a wide and everchanging variety of flowers and vegetables for yard and garden. Summer and fall bring customers looking for perennials, mums, and ornamental kale, and the holidays burst into a colorful array of poinsettias, wreaths, and outdoor evergreen arrangements. Hartman’s prides itself on quality, home-grown plant material, and its ability to offer expert advice and outstanding customer service.

Lynn Seidl-Babcock joined HomeCare Health Services in 1984 to start a
hospice program. In 1991, Lynn and her husband, Mike, became sole owners of the entire corporation. HomeCare Health Services proudly holds the first homecare license in the state of Wisconsin, going back to 1974, and includes the first hospice license in Manitowoc County. The agency has approximately 190 employees including RNs, therapists, nursing assistants, home companions, housekeepers, and support staff. Their skilled Medicare/Medicaid nursing services and hospice care include skilled RN and therapy visits ordered by a physician. Hospice care deals with all end-of-life diagnoses and is paid for 100 percent by Medicare. According to Lynn, “Hospice is underutilized. Hospices are reimbursed a daily (per diem) rate and we are known for our quantity and quality of our service. For all of these programs, patients have a choice and need to ask their doctor, hospital or nursing home discharge planner for her agency by name.”Consumers of health care are well informed and their choices must be honored. Lynn recently announced they are expanding their private bath/personal care, companion and supervision services to the Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Kohler and Plymouth areas. These services do not require a doctor’s order and families and patients alike can call directly to set up needed assistance. Services can be utilized from an hour or two up to 24-hour“around-the-clock”care. The company also works with long-term care insurance companies to provide these custodial care needs. Being locally owned, Lynn is proud that her two adult children are involved in management positions in the company.“We do what needs to be done to make a situation work,”Lynn boldly proclaims her business philosophy: “I’m a Christian, a nurse and a business woman. If I do the first two right, it all falls into place. I sincerely care about providing top quality home health care to elderly and disabled. All of our programs, including those not covered by Medicare/Medicaid, are overseen by a registered nurse.” HomeCare Health Services is located at 1004 Washington Street in downtown Manitowoc. Their office is a three-story brick building that is proudly listed on the historic registry.

The Medicine Shoppe, 1500 Washington Street, Two Rivers, is in its second wave of local ownership. In 2011, Marv and Joylyn Moore purchased the pharmacy from Brian and Barb Jensen, who opened the store in 1992. All are local residents heavily involved in the community. Since taking over, the Moores have invested in the business, adding a second checkout, expanding the pharmacist counseling area, and adding additional staff (currently at 23 employees). One of the pharmacy’s most popular offerings is the Smart Fill program. This program automatically refills prescriptions without having to call them in. If needed, Medicine Shoppe will call a patient’s physician for authorization, and will call the patient when the order is ready for pickup. Another useful service Medicine Shoppe offers is bubble packing of medications, whether they be prescription or over the counter. These colorcoded packs make it easy to take the right medications at the right time of the day, every day. This helps patients take their medications appropriately, and also assists caregivers in proper medication administration. According to Marv Moore, “We take the time to get to know our patients and answer their questions, and help them get the most out of the medications they take.” The staff constantly looks for ways to save their patients money, such as tablet splitting, generic drug substitution, or purchasing in larger quantities through the store’s One Price Plan. Community involvement is something the Moore’s are very proud of. Their pharmacists and staff serve the community through Two Rivers Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Two Rivers Main Street, and Friends of Point Beach, and the store sponsors many local events. “Money spent at the Medicine Shoppe stays in the community,” Marv says, “and is used to help make the lakeshore area a great place to live.” The only locally owned and operated pharmacy in Two Rivers!

Dr. Jason Thiel DO YOU KNOW WHAT PREVENTATIVE DENTISTRY REALLY MEANS? Mishicot Dental provides patients with comprehensive care that goes far beyond just getting your teeth cleaned every 6 months. Over the past few years, you may have heard about the links between bacteria found in your mouth and heart disease. We take this very seriously at Mishicot Dental. It is important to inform your dentist about any health changes or medications and vitamins you are taking. Health issues and medications can have a negative effect on your teeth and we want to help you understand and care for your teeth before serious issues occur. Mishicot Dental even checks your blood pressure at each visit. Knowing your blood pressure is important because it can say a lot about your health and how it may relate to proper dental care. A common, serious issue is periodontal disease, which affects the soft tissue that supports your teeth. This disease does not always cause pain. Over time this infection can cause the bone around your teeth to recede, causing your teeth to become loose and eventually they will need to be removed. Prevention and early detection is key, and our team is always on the lookout for it. Oral cancer is a serious disease. Mishicot Dental’s team of Doctors and hygienists are trained to screen for this disease by checking for lumps or any tissue abnormalities. Most importantly, our team is trained to educate our patient’s on their risk of getting tooth decay. CAMBRA is a screening put out by the ADA to assist dental teams in helping patients understand diet and lifestyle choices that may be putting them at risk for getting cavities. We can give our patient’s advice on different products that may fit better for their lifestyle to help prevent tooth decay. Routine dental care visits are important to your overall health. Mishicot Dental’s approach teaches patients how to better care not only for their teeth but the entire body!

When looking for great selection of common—and not so-common— bulk food products, you’d expect to have to drive to one of the larger cities to be able to find what you’re looking for. Surprise! Right here in Reedsville, there is a shop that offers both: The Village Pantry, located right on Highway 10. Owners Lyle and Barbara Lengacher came to this area in 2009 from Pennsylvania, and saw a need for this type of business and a means to support their own family by providing high-quality, reasonably priced food products. In addition to authentic delicatessen-style meats and cheeses, Village Pantry offers an great variety of baking ingredients, spices, home-style and MSG-free soup mixes, and a host of other food products that appeal to the comfort cook and foodie alike. Not only does the store carry items that are hard to find elsewhere, it also can obtain popular items in bulk for customers to help them save on the per-unit cost. The Lengachers are pleased that their Village Pantry is family and locally owned and operated, and are willing to help locate any hard-tofind items that customers may want.

Now, if you are visiting a local restaurant that happens to be a chain or a franchise, doesn’t it make you feel good that the actual owner is the one taking your order and/or preparing your food? In Two Rivers, you can visit Cousin’s Subs and, most likely, you’ll encounter at least one of the owners, Neal or Shellie Jacquart. The Jacquarts own the local franchise to the highly successful Cousin’s Subs, and are proud to reinvest the business they do back into the community.
Cousin’s offers a brand new menu of hot and cold submarine sandwiches, salads, and home-baked cookies. Newer offerings include the Big Daddy Sub, a 20-ounce, 7-1/2 inch sandwich with more than a half pound of meat. All Cousin’s steak subs now have 50 percent more meat. And there are four new salads including Almond Berry Chicken. Current specials include 2 for $6.00 every Saturday and Sunday through May and also a $5.00 Combo special seven days a week! It’s just one more way they respond to the community in these hard times. The Jacquart’s Cousins Subs was a 2007 winner for the largest sales increase among 150 Cousin’s stores, and the couple was locally awarded SAIL’s 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year. You are encouraged to visit Cousin’s and say hello to the Jacquarts at 816 22nd Street, Two Rivers, adjacent to the Mobil convenience store and across from Pick ‘N Save. WI-5001455142

Let Quality Aire, Inc.
Welcome to Quality Aire, Inc. the area leader for indoor air quality. We offer air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning services to Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
keep your air clean!
Dirty air ducts and dryer vents can pose serious health and fire hazards, as well as substantially impact energy efficiency. Left neglected, air duct build-up circulates more dust, pollen, animal hair, microbes and other contaminants into breathable air inside. Likewise, dryer vent build-up reduces air flow, causes overheating, and is a common cause of fires. These conditions can strain your HVAC and dryer vent systems, causing them to work harder and lose energy efficiency. We live in a world where healthy living has become a way of life. We diet and exercise to make ourselves feel better. Yet the most overlooked issue is the air that we breathe. The Environmental Protection Agency claims that indoor air has been found to be more polluted than outdoor air. Now consider on an average people spend 90% of their time indoors……The facts can be quite alarming.

We’re locally owned to give you the Hometown Service that you Deserve!”
Offering 2 ways to Save! Chilton Furniture
The Bedding Express A message from Jerry Mallmann. Owner of Chilton Furniture and The Bedding Express
There’s something about doing business in a small town that is special. Not only for the customer, but also for the business owner. I’ve been in the Retail Home Furnishings business for 32 years in the same small town. Over the years, we’ve established a lot of friendships with our customers. They have come know that to us, they’re not just another number. We have had the luxury of being able get to know many of them on a very personal level. In many cases, even having visited their homes for consultations. Establishing such close relationships with our clients allows us to serve them better. They begin to understand that our goal is to help them with the selection that best solves their problem or serves their needs. Not what is best for our bottom line. Establishing trust is of the utmost importance. As a retail businessman, I know that our customers have a lot of options for where they can spend their money. There are big Box stores all around us. There are people screaming on TV begging for your money. So how do we compete with that? We compete by providing a level of service that the “Big Box” guys are too big to offer. Personal one on one service. No High Pressure Sales People. No Customer service dept. from a hundred miles away. If you’ve got a problem, you get to talk to real people. Even the owner if you want to. That’s the way we’ve gotten where we are. And that’s the way we will continue. So whether you are looking to do some major redecorating with Furniture, flooring and Custom window treatments at our Chilton Furniture location, or if you are simply looking to get the best nights sleep ever from our new Bedding Express Mattress Store, You can be confident that we’ll help you make the right choice. And the kicker is that it won’t cost you any more than at the “Big Box” store down the road!
Thank you for allowing us to earn your business!

Since 1951
Thoughts on our 6th Decade
In 1951, Local attorney Fred G. Dicke saw a need for a community-run retirement home along with a remarkable opportunity when the county built a new health care center vacating the old county mental hospital. With a group of community leaders, he formed a local board under the name Shady Lane, Inc. and converted the former hospital into a retirement home. By 1971, changes in health care trends and technology made it clear that the old building was no longer suitable. It was razed and in its place a new four-story building, now home to Shady Lane Nursing Care Center
was constructed. Finally in 1993, Shady Lane purchased the entire complex with its extensive, manicured grounds from the county and added Laurel Grove Assisted Living along with the gardens. Sixty-one years after our founding, we continue to evolve. Challenging health care demands have been met with the addition of private rooms, suites and apartments, satellite kitchens and meaningful activities for residents. We have partnered with HFM Rehab Services as a provider of therapy at our facility and February saw the opening of an on-site HFM Clinic. As a not-for-profit organization, we are committed to proving quality at a reasonable cost. Today, our board of directors continues to be comprised of local leaders to whom we are ever grateful for their leadership, love of our community, and especially their vision.
