Select the Right Insurance Agent for Your Needs
It is not uncommon to find shopping for the right insurance agent to be something a challenge. Finding a company that offers the right combination of service, coverage and price isn’t easy to do. The problem may simply be one of not knowing how to identify reputable, experienced agents. It is vital to keep in mind the fact that everyone needs to have the right type of insurance coverage in place, and that a seasoned agent can help make that happen for his or her clients. Prior to choosing your insurance coverage, it is necessary to identify a skilled agent willing to guide you through the process. You should always conduct thorough research into multiple agents in order to find the best one for your needs. A great way to start is to seek referrals from friends, family members and colleagues you know you can trust. If you receive a recommendation, there is a strong likelihood that you will have the same type of positive experience as the person providing the referral. Talented agents know that offering great service is the best way to keep receiving personal recommendations and increased business. If you are satisfied with your agent’s work, they would surely appreciate your willingness to refer friends and relatives in the future. Those who have not had the benefit of a personal recommendation are free to conduct their own research. It may be wise to begin by making inquiries of individual companies and brokers. Selecting a large insurer offers greater uniformity among agents, as they will have undergone the same types of training and be subject to the same policies. However, they may also lack creativity and innovation in the way they handle their accounts. Thorough deliberation is critical when shopping for the best agent. Treat the research process as your would if you were purchasing a new car or home. Make sure that you pick a company that is highly regarded by consumers. You should also verify that any prospective agent possesses all necessary
licenses and training. Once you have narrowed your list of possible agents, it is a good idea to meet with each one. Have a list of questions and concerns ready so that you can gather all of the information you need. Be certain that you feel comfortable with their answers before you take the process any further. If you feel as if an agent is trying to get you to purchase a policy that does not meet your needs, you should proceed cautiously. Simply inform the agent that you need more information and are not ready to make a decision immediately. If you are working with the right kind of agent, they will allow you to take as much time as you need to collect all of the research and detail necessary to make your decision. They will also treat you like a good teacher — giving you lots of useful information — rather than a high-pressure salesperson.
Thanks from our family to yours. We’re proud to be part of a select group of American Family Insurance agencies to be recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for providing “An Outstanding Customer Experience” as a Distinguished Insurance Agency. The best part is the recognition comes from you, our customers. Let us show you our commitment and dedication to providing you with outstanding customer service and in finding the right insurance to fit your needs.
Also make sure that your agent is willing to have an ongoing relationship with you. If the relationship ends once the sale is made, you will be at a clear disadvantage. If your dialogue is a continuing one, you will be able to contact your agent if you have any questions or concerns. This could even include seeking help with a claim filing should the need ever arise. Take caution to choose an agent that is reputable and established. If your agent has been in the business for many years, chances are they will better understand the policies that they sell and be able to take extra care to ensure that you are properly protected. It is important to secure the appropriate type and amount of insurance in order to properly protect yourself and your financial future. Thorough research needs to be done to make certain that you have purchased insurance coverage tailored to your specific circumstances. You, your family and your finances will reap the benefits of the extra effort. A seasoned, skilled insurance agent is an invaluable resource for safeguarding your future.

how to
Choose a Financial Advisor
Finding the right financial advisor for your situation is essential for your financial health. Think of it this way: Choosing a financial advisor who’s right for your specific financial situation is similar to choosing the right nutrition program for your specific body type. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND Since not every diet program is suited for your specific health and wellness needs, not every financial advisor is suited for your financial wellness needs. You want to be able to rely on your financial advisor’s advice when it comes to trimming your expenditures and what to do to save for retirement the same way you rely on your doctor for keeping your body trim and fit. Be sure to do your homework before starting a relationship with a financial advisor. Before making a choice, perform a background check on the financial advisors on your list and review their credentials. Your financial advisor must have the necessary training from an accredited institution and the prescribed certification for your state in order to be a true financial advisor. Ask yourself the following questions: • How many years of experience does the financial advisor have? • Have any complaints been filed against the financial advisor? • What awards, if any, has the financial advisor received? • Can the financial advisor provide concrete proof of a satisfied clientele? Answers to these questions are key when searching for a financial advisor who will meet your specific needs. AREAS OF EXPERTISE There’s a complete buffet of financial products that can contribute to your financial well-being. Everything from bonds to mutual funds and commodities to stocks are common investing tools. However, depending upon your appetite for risk, some investment vehicles are better for your portfolio than others. You want to find a financial advisor who’s an expert in customizing a financial plan for your benefit, not for your detriment. Consider the specific segment of the market in which you want to invest your money. Look for a financial advisor specializing in that particular investment type. For example, you might want to invest in the commodities market. If your potential financial advisor has little experience in the 4
commodities market, consider a different choice on your candidate list. RATE OF SUCCESS Take a look at the rate of success each potential candidate has. Has the rate of return of his recommendations outpaced the average market rate of return over the last year, five years, or ten years? One indicator of a solid rate of return is how well a financial advisor conducts research to strengthen his clients’ portfolios. Here’s where experience plays an important role. This is especially important in tough economic times. How well has your financial advisorcandidate weathered past economic recessions for his clients? Do his clients continue to thrive in a bleak financial environment? On the other hand, have his clients experienced multiple hits to their portfolios? That’s why an advisor’s success is well worth your consideration. FEES OR COMMISSIONS? Ask your financial advisor about her compensation. Is she fee-based or commission-based? That will make a difference in your final selection. After all it’s your money you’re investing, not your financial advisor’s money. A commission-based advisor is more apt to suggest financial products that favor her compensation. Such a situation could needlessly increase your exposure to market risk. Only go with a commission-based advisor if she has a proven track record of success and has your best interest in mind. If you feel the need to guarantee that your best interest will be served, go with a fee-based advisor. A fee-based advisor is compensated only for the time spent on servicing your portfolio. INTERVIEW Finally, make arrangements to meet the top candidates on your financial advisor list. Get a feel for how the financial advisor will treat you as his or her client. Will he act condescending toward you and your ideas? Will she have the heart of a teacher when addressing your concerns? A good way to do that is to ask direct questions regarding experience, services and financial products offered, and the fee schedule. How your financial advisor-candidate answers your questions will give you a solid idea of which one is right for you.

how to
Choose Women’s Clothing
A new job, new neighborhood, or just a new outlook can lead to a woman wanting to change her wardrobe. But where should she start? There is a plethora of fashion advice in this digital age, which leads to confusion and sometimes a sense of being overwhelmed. And clothing can be tied to a sense of selfworth, which is not always a good thing. So many questions and opinions, where is a girl supposed to start? A woman should decide on what she likes wearing first and foremost. The days of dressing uncomfortably just to please the opposite sex are over. That is not to say sweatshirts and pants should be the new norm. Dressing appropriately is one fashion dictate that is always in. But trying to fit into clothing that is too tight and that doesn’t breathe is almost as bad as wearing pajamas to a job interview. No one should do either of those things. Fabric is an important consideration. The natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, silk, wool and cashmere are almost always more comfortable. What holds some women back from purchasing clothes made of these materials is price. However, women’s clothing made of natural fabrics will not only last longer than cheap synthetics, they will also hold their look through repeated wear. That is why almost everyone who is knowledgeable in clothing will tell you to spend the money and buy nicer clothes to begin with. If income is very tight, many women find beautiful clothing in second-hand or thrift shops. Going to one of these stores that is located near a wealthy suburb is the best recourse. Namebrand designer clothes are the hidden jewels spread throughout Goodwill and Salvation Army stores nationwide. Also, these stores are
a good way to get rid of clothing that no longer compliments a woman’s figure or lifestyle. Women who work in the professional world often must choose clothing that is more conservative than what they would like. But even the most button-down suit can be livened up with the right accessories. A very attractive look is the dark blue or black women’s suit contrasted with a red or white flower pin for the lapel. If a woman is just starting a new job and is unsure of what to wear, conservative clothing is always the best bet. Professional offices will often have dress codes listed in their employee handbooks, but for smaller offices or retail establishments, this might not be the case. Making note of what other employees and the supervisors are wearing is a good habit to get into. When a woman is seeking to be stylish, there are certain things she should pay attention to. What is on the runways in New York and Paris will usually trickle down within a matter of months.
Caviar Ladies Apparel
If not interested in what the runway has to offer, paying attention to what city girls in New York and Paris are wearing can be helpful. Sometimes fashion starts in the street and then moves up to the designer labels.
• Casual & Dressy Clothes • • Cocktail & Evening • • Mother of Brides & Grooms • • Long & Short • • Sweaters & Jackets • • Shirts & Pants •
Above all, women’s clothing should be comfortable and should make a woman feel attractive and competent. If a woman is uncomfortable in certain clothing, it will show. It is much better to be at ease and slightly less fashionable than to be in high style yet feel miserable.

Consign Your Clothes
Consignment stores resell previously purchased items. If you are considering consigning, here are some tips to figuring out WHAT to consign: 1. Do you have totally chic and classic items because they pretty much sell themselves? As do those “it” bags that some see as seasonal and others see as timeless. 2. Think about would this be something YOU would want if you came across it: Is the condition good? Are there stains? Has it been dry-cleaned so much it shines? 3. Would you be happy never ever to see those items again and instead receive some cash for them?
Who benefits…hmm…let me start a list… I’ll start with the consignor who now has a cleaner home and cash in her pocket. Then there’s the consignment store that earns a commission on the sale.
Smart shoppers save $ buying used instead of new.
If you’ve answered yes to any of the above questions, then you are a great candidate to consign. Most consignment stores accept items for a period of a season, so don’t bring those white slacks in mid-December. Also, please understand you are RE-selling your items, so even with a tag still hanging, the item will be drastically reduced – sometimes as much as 75%. When an item of yours is sold, you will receive a portion of the selling price. Consignment shops set the selling price for you, and promises to get the best price possible for your gently used consignment items. Think about consigning as an exercise in karma:
www.kimsclassiccloset.com
by simply cleaning out your closet you not only get personal rewards, but you also help other fashion lovers buy something they never thought they could afford.
And of course, the jobs created at the consignment store. Employees, window washers, and bookkeepers – they all get paid. The local community benefits from the sales taxes collected by the store. Smart shoppers save $ buying used instead of new – leaving more money for other needs (like another gallon or three of gas).
The EARTH - because that’s one more recycled toy, shirt, or sofa that’s not in a landfill.
50% off any 1 item!
And the children raised by smart, caring, responsible, adults who teach them these values have a huge head start towards successful adulthood.

CareSoft Pro® Highly Efficient Softening. Amazingly Smart Performance.
Choose a Water Treatment Company and Bottled Water
The tap water that runs from your faucets and sinks can contain several components such as chlorine, fluoride, calcium deposits and other added minerals. It may be necessary to consider a different route when it comes to drinking water. Those other components of tap water can cause the water to taste different from purified water you would buy in a convenience store. Having too large an amount of calcium deposits in tap water can be characterized as “hard” water, which can be thought of as unclean. However, simply hiring a water treatment company can take care of that problem. These companies use advanced technology to filter tap water to get rid of all of its dangerous contaminants so it can do absolutely no harm to a person’s body. Drinking this purified water can provide you with a clean, purified drink without the taste of chlorine or fluoride that tap water seems to gives you. Most of these water treatment companies will make the job even easier for you by delivering the purified water bottles straight to your home or office so don’t have to continually go to the store to buy more. You will also ultimately want to look at how much you are willing to spend for bottled or treated water. Some companies can be very expensive, and others might not provide the highest quality of water available. You will want to do research on the different brands so you can compare the different pricing, quality, purity, benefits and healthiness to better insure you will be purchasing exactly what you want. Since you’re probably using your purified water for several things such as drinking and cooking, it’s also better to decide whether you use a 8
treated water company or bottled water based on how much water you need in everyday use. Water treatment companies can provide you with water in gallons at a time, which can be much more convenient than having to buy 16- or 20-ounce bottles at your local grocery stores. Sometimes it is easy to confuse purified bottled water from natural spring water. Spring water comes from underground and has a natural purifier from flowing down rocks and streams, which gives it the healthy minerals that are actually good for your body. Purified drinking water is taken through several filter processes that make it distilled and deionized to give it a pure, clean taste. This also creates another decision when it comes to drinking bottled water because the minerals in natural springs can give you special vitamins and minerals such as bicarbonate, which helps with your digestive system, magnesium, which is vital to the structure and function of your body, and sodium, which helps regulate water in your body. It might be hard to find the right water treatment company depending on where you live and what you want. However, you should always inspect how different companies filter water so that you can get exactly what you want when you drink the water and so you can know that what you are drinking is healthy and right for you and those living in your household.
Since 1946, WaterCare and its family of professional dealers have offered only the best in water treatment equipment. The CareSoft Pro Series of equipment is the newest and most advanced system within our extensive line-up of proven solutions. CareSoft Pro softeners feature a highly advanced control system with amazing operating efficiencies. By tracking your water usage and automatically adjusting itself, this system can keep pace with all your clean water needs... even with on-the-go lifestyles and ever-changing schedules. Once your WaterCare dealer has thoroughly tested your water, all CareSoft Pro operating parameters can be set to effectively remove unwanted hardness and minerals. This programming versatility is key to minimizing water and salt consumption from the first day of operation. It’s the one system designed for a custom fit.
Purified water is definitely something you would want to consider if you dislike the quality and taste of your tap water. Even though it might save you money, purified water is a better solution when it comes to the health of your body.

Achieve Great-Looking Skin
Having great-looking skin has a start, a finish, and any number of elements in between, depending on your personal situation and what you want to accomplish. Following are a few key areas to focus on and how to achieve the results you want. Overall No matter what your approach, you’ll want to take into consideration these five steps to healthier, cleaner, younger skin: Cleanse Exfoliate Freshen Moisturize Protect It takes more than one product to achieve beautiful skin. As part of a daily skin care regimen, these five steps work in harmony to synergize the effects to produce vibrant, healthy skin. Foundation Dot a little foundation on your forehead and along your cheekbones and blend in an upward and outward motion. Finish by softly blending downward to put any fine hairs back in place. Less is more. You can always build additional coverage with a second layer if needed.
Angle the pencil so it touches the outer edge of the nostril and intersects with the outer corner of the eye. This is where the eyebrow should end. Eyelashes Curled lashes help open and enhance the eyes. Either a standard metal curler or a batteryoperated heated lash curler works well. It’s best to curl lashes before applying mascara. Simply insert clean upper lashes into the curler near the base of the lashline, gently squeezing and holding for 10 to 20 seconds. Day Into Night A natural eye look for the day doesn’t mean you’re limited to only neutral shades. Try lightly applying a colorful accent shade that you deepen for the evening. For daytime, apply a thin line of eyeliner along the top lashes and use your highlight and accent colors to softly line the bottom lashline. Transform this look for night by applying a slightly thicker line of eyeliner along top lashes or using a darker shade over the existing line. Line the lower lashes with eyeliner as well and softly smudge if desired. Apply another coat of mascara for more dramatic evening lashes.

Caring. Connecting. Community.
Pay attention to the jawline and hairline so as not to leave a “mask line.”
Change your lip liner, lipstick, and gloss to bolder shades with shimmer and high shine. Don’t be afraid to pump up the color to make both eyes and lips more dramatic.
Consider including eyelids for a consistent base tone throughout the face.
Illuminate a tired look with a touchup under the eyes and along the smile lines.
Eyebrows Hold the pencil upright along the side of the nose. The brow should begin at the line where the pencil intersects the inner corner of the eye.
Freshen up your face and help control shine with a little pressed powder.

Choose a Chiropractor
Chiropractic care can be a great choice for people who want convenient, cost-effective treatment for their health care needs. In fact, it’s an increasingly popular choice for millions of Americans with back, head or neck pain, headaches, injuries and other ailments. And because chiropractors are expertly trained to work on muscles, joints, bones and ligaments — the things that keep your entire body connected — chiropractic care can improve your general health as well. That’s why it’s important to choose a chiropractor for your health care. Whether you’re experiencing pain or just want to improve your overall well-being, many people get good results from visiting a local chiropractor. why chiropractic? The reasons people choose chiropractic care boil down to four things: quality, cost, convenience and outcomes. Quality can be assured by the rigorous training that chiropractors go through before they can be accredited. They’re trained on the human body’s nerves and musculoskeletal system, and chiropractors’ educational requirements are among the most stringent in the health care industry. They typically spend four years in a pre-medical program and four to five years of professional training.
insurance coverage When selecting a chiropractor, it’s important to know what your insurance company will cover. Most insurance carriers include chiropractic care as part of their regular coverage, including Medicare and some Medicaid plans, but you should check to see exactly what your health plan includes. You should also see if there are any discounts for choosing an “in-network” chiropractor, which could let you have a lower co-pay and more affordable coverage.
According to the American Chiropractic Association, accredited chiropractors go through classroom, laboratory and clinical training that totals at least
4,200 hours.
Cost and convenience are two other reasons chiropractic care is so popular. Compared to the skyrocketing cost of other types of medical care, chiropractic can seem downright affordable for the results it provides. And with the waiting times at doctors’ offices and emergency rooms becoming ridiculous, chiropractors can typically offer treatments that fit into your busy lifestyle. Finally, the positive health outcomes people get from chiropractic care matter more than anything else. People love the care they get from their chiropractor — and are happy to tell you about it — but the best way to see the outcome is to try it for yourself. 10
The most ringing endorsement of chiropractic care is seeing that it works for you.
Even if you don’t have health insurance, you may find chiropractic care is a cost-effective alternative that gets good results. Most chiropractors will offer an affordable payment plan or low cash rates to help patients without insurance coverage. get referrals One way to choose a chiropractor in your area is to ask friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers who they use. You may be surprised at how many people you know who have gotten good treatment from chiropractors and are happy to share their experiences about it.
They should be able to answer your questions about the things you can only learn from first-hand knowledge — things like the chiropractor’s demeanor, how easy it is to schedule an office visit, and any other concerns you might have about the chiropractic process.

Keeping your RV in top shape while at home will help keep it in good shape while traveling and should help to eliminate avoidable repairs. When you’re away from home, finding a professional repair company with qualified, experienced personnel and great customer service can be more challenging but it will help you to resume your vacation quickly with peace of mind. But how do you find a good RV repair service? Specialized Experience First, look for a company that specializes in RV repair. Regular mechanics may not have the right tools or expertise to handle an RV. Even better, look for a mechanic who is familiar with your specific make and model of RV. Such a mechanic can warn you of frequent maintenance or mechanical issues and fix little problems before they become big ones. You may also want to make sure the repair company has large enough facilities; for instance, Class 1 motorhomes usually require massive repair bays and lifts similar to those of 18-wheeler garages. Customer Service Try to find a repair service that is convenient and trustworthy and that treats you with respect. Also check whether they are easily accessible for you during their hours of operation; being able to drop off or pick up your RV on the way to or from work can be very
Locally owned - why use up gas and time?
helpful. If you can find a good shop near your home, then that’s great, but don’t place too much value on location. When it comes to RVs, it’s often worth it to drive farther to find a high quality repair professional. Trial Run If possible, try out your potential new service before any major repair issues come up. Start with minor maintenance or upkeep, such as a tune-up or oil change, and see what kind of service you get. Is the motorhome clean when they’re finished? Did they complete the job on time? Did they stick to the estimated cost and call you before doing any extra work? How they treat you on a small, routine job will give you an idea of what to expect if your RV needs major work done later on. Extra Services If you’re planning to own an RV for a long time, then you may want to check whether the repair shop offers any extra services. For instance, some companies can upgrade your cabin with new technologies or better materials -- like a new TV or refrigerator. And some companies can wash your RV too, or at least refer you to a good cleaning facility.

Choose a Pet Groomer
If you have a dog or cat that you plan to have groomed on a regular basis, you will want to find a good pet groomer in a location that is convenient for you. One of the best ways to find a pet groomer is to ask your friends who have pets whose services they use. Referrals are important to any professional pet groomer. They will be pleased to know you were referred to them. They will in turn want you to be pleased with their services so that you will also refer others to them. You can locate pet groomers in pet stores, veterinary offices and private businesses. You can find listings in a newspaper or online for local pet groomers. However, before selecting a pet groomer, you should visit the salon personally. Check for cleanliness. The facility should look and smell clean. Ask to see where the dogs and cats are kept while waiting for your return. Be sure your pet will be in a safe, secure environment. If there are several employees working at the salon, take time to observe how they interact with the animals. It is generally reassuring to see that the grooming stations are located in an area that is within view of people coming into the establishment. Ask about the variety of services the groomer provides. Some groomers do not groom cats while other will groom both cats and dogs. Some simply bathe and trim pets while others offer a variety of grooming-related services. They may also offer flea treatments, nail trimming and polishing, ear cleaning and teeth cleaning. Pet grooming salons range from those that provide basic grooming to those that offer a variety of pet pampering services. Some towns have mobile pet groomers. This is a convenient option if you are unable to transport your pet to a facility or if your dog Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
doesn’t get along well with other animals. If your town doesn’t have a mobile pet groomer, you will need to find a groomer with business hours that are convenient for you to drop off and pick up your pet. Before you schedule an appointment with a groomer, take your pet by for a visit and see how the groomer interacts with it. Follow your instinct. Just by general observation, you can tell if the groomer and the staff at the salon have a love for animals and the concern for your pet that makes you feel comfortable leaving your dog or cat there. When you make an appointment with a groomer, be specific about what services you want. Communication is key. The words your groomer uses may not be words you would use for the same service. For instance, a “full groom” may mean a full body clip while to a client it may mean a “bath and dry”. The key is to communicate to ensure that you leave with exactly what you are looking for. If another person drops off your pet at the groomer be sure to explain to them what you want, and send along written guidelines if the person bringing in your pet isn’t quite sure what you want. Ideally, you should not request that more be done to your pet than they comfortably tolerate. Your dog may be comfortable with a bath and the process of drying its hair. However, it may find the experience of having its nails trimmed a bit stressful. You shouldn’t permit a groomer to entice you to request more services than what is comfortable for your pet or your budget.

to make any necessary adjustments in order to create a coordinated decor.
If you are looking for curtains and blinds for your home, you are sure to find something that suits your taste given the vast supply of styles available on the market.
To design the home to remain looking great for a long time to come, particular attention must be paid to both the quality of the design elements and the quality of the installation.
You need to consider a number of factors when deciding on the window treatments to purchase, but it can be difficult to decide exactly which factors are relevant to your situation.
The materials should last for a long time and not start to fall apart after just a few years when they will have to replaced again. The daily management of sunlight in the home is handled with the use of blinds or drapes, and the regular, frequent handling of these can take its toll.
The tips that follow will provide you with a guideline to follow and will make the job a lot easier. How much do the treatments cost? Regardless of the product you are buying, this question is one of the most critical one that must be answered. You should expect to find different prices for the different grades of materials in a quality window treatment store. The supply of materials available at a good store should include both lower priced vinyl as well as the more expensive wooden blind choices. Another feature to look for is free installation of blinds. Often stores will advertise free professional installation of blinds, so this is a feature you can take advantage of to make your job easier, but keep in mind that the cost of installation will be priced into the materials. Looking at the total cost of all materials for your window treatment is a critical part of the whole process. Decide if the store provides a variety of material options for you to select from. Given the wide variety of window treatment fabrics and items available to upgrade your windows, the ideal treatment store should reflect that variety in its stock so that you can select materials to suit your style. Blinds should first be selected to match the window size and decor style of the room being decorated. Both shades or blinds are critical elements for the shopper to purchase. Take a look at the available curtains and draperies so that you can gauge what is available and so you will be able 14
Ensure that the blinds you buy are durable and are adequate to perform the job they are designed for. Find out the details of the warranty available for the products you buy. The products should have a good warranty as errors may occur during installation and even after installation, the product may be found defective. Details of the warranty and return policy should be properly understood before the items are purchased.

If the purchased window treatments do not blend with the home’s decor it should be possible to switch out items or return everything to the store. Ask about restocking fees, and be sure you know the store’s return policy up front. When redesigning and renovating your home, you may find the search for window treatments to be quite enjoyable. Thinking about all the possibilities can be fun, even if the options can be overwhelming. It is tricky to assemble the proper combination of curtains, drapes, blinds and accessories, but a great deal of satisfaction is received when the overall style comes together as planned. Once you know exactly what you are looking for in window treatments, it is only a matter of time before you locate a good window treatment store that will meet your needs.

Don’t be afraid to ask if you may stay for dinner when you visit. Since meals are usually included in the price of assisted living, it’s nice to know about the food, service and setting. This will also give you an opportunity to visit with other residents. It is a wise practice to bring someone along on a visit. This way you’ll not only have a second opinion, you’ll have someone to bounce ideas off and to give you feed back. On your visit, ask the person you meet with about costs and what services that are available. For example, are meals, cleaning and laundry service included? Brochures along with a price sheet are good take-aways so that you can review your visit. How much room do you need? Some folks think a studio apartment is just right while others need a one or two bedroom apartment. These apartments have a living room, kitchen and dinette area. how to Choose a Roofer
Replacing the roof on your home should be left to professionals. When you hire a professional you are paying for more than just the work. You are paying for their warranty, too, so that if the roof leaks two years later they are still liable and will have to correct the problem. With that in mind, there are several points you definitely want to check out before selecting a roofer. First, how long has the company been in operation? A good roofer should offer a guarantee of anywhere from five to 12 years on their work. If you are dealing with a company that has only been in business for two years, you do not know if that guarantee is worth anything. You also want to try to find a roofing contractor who is local to your area. This is especially true after high winds have passed through your region and damaged many area roofs. Contractors from other regions of the country often follow such storm events, scooping up jobs and insurance payments. If their work fails and leaks after a year, it is extremely unlikely that they will return to your area to repair their error. Remember, you are paying for the warranty, so finding a local roofing contractor who has been in business for a while should be a top priority. How do you accomplish this? First, ask family, friends and neighbors if they have any recommendations. Even if they have not used a roofer recently, they may have other friends who have. Personal recommendations often include advice on who not to use, as well as commentary on the quality of the work and the cleanup. For example, if someone puts on a good roof but leaves shingles from the old one lying all over the yard, you may not want to use them. You should also do an Internet search for roofing contractors in your area. Many Web sites list contractors and allow reviews of their work to be posted.
have identified in order to get estimates and ask questions. Getting estimates is obvious, but asking questions is also extremely important. Doing so will let the contractors know that you will not simply let them work and think nothing about it. It will let them know that you are paying attention to the process, right from the start. It can also let them know that you understand some things about roofs. Good questions to ask are what they will do if they find damaged decking, whether they recommend standard or architectural shingles, what the warranty is on their work, do they provide the warranty in writing, how long would it take to complete the work, and when could they start the job. The answers you receive to these questions will give you a basis to decide whether or not you trust the contractor.
Quality Starts At The Top
You should also make sure the contractor is licensed and bonded. Insurance is especially important for roofing contractors. While it is important they they be bonded and able to cover any damages they cause to your property, it is even more important they have coverage for their own workers who may be injured or even fall to their death in the process of repairing your roof. Asking about these kinds of issues will demonstrate to the contractor that you know what you are talking about and will prompt them to be more open with you in discussing the job. The topics you discuss will grow as the number of roofers you interview increases, because you will be able to ask following roofers about things the first roofer said. Finally, be sure to get a written contract with the roofer you choose. Contracts should always be in writing so there are no misunderstandings about what materials are to be used, exactly what the scope of work is, and what the final cost is to be.

Spring Catering
Choose a Caterer
Planning a Graduation, Anniversary, Wedding or Family Reunion?
We’ll take the burden off of you!
When catering your party or special event, it is vital that you hire a caterer of the best possible quality in order to ensure that every aspect of your celebration is a success.
with the catering process, a patient and informative caterer can prove invaluable in teaching you about what types and amounts of nourishment would be suitable for your event.
Not only must a caterer be able to produce high-quality, delicious food, but he or she must also be professional, timely and dedicated to his or her responsibilities. Party hosts should take certain precautions in order to ensure that the caterer they choose is of the highest caliber.
Some companies specialize in catering themed parties and can help you select the spread that would perfectly complement your festivities. Other caterers can be immensely helpful in providing you with basic information such as the types of food that are most popular amongst your targeted guests.
First of all, you must never try to hire your caterer at the last minute. You will want to interview representatives from various catering companies in order to locate the best one for your purposes; this takes a considerable amount of time and planning. Your interviews with these representatives are vital in selecting the best company for your event. When speaking with different caterers, there are a number of different criteria that you must keep in mind. For instance, all caterers should possess positive ratings from your state or local health department as proof of their safe and sanitary cooking methods. This will also reflect the company’s standard of quality. Of course, you should never hire a caterer without first tasting some of the company’s food. Many representatives will bring samples of their work to an interview; if they did not, you should request some before making any major monetary commitments. After locating a caterer whose food seems ideal for your event, you should discuss your schedule with them. It is generally not a wise decision to hire a caterer that seems incredibly busy; you want your caterer to be able to devote as much time and energy possible to your specific event. If the caterer cannot fit you into their schedule with ease, then you should consider looking elsewhere. Knowledgeable caterers are also extremely beneficial when planning a party or other celebration. Especially if you are not familiar Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
If you can locate a caterer that is willing to help you with the planning process of your meal and hors d’ouevres, their assistance would truly prove to be invaluable. Finally, it is always a good idea to check a company’s reputation before making any monetary commitments to it. Ask the caterer’s representatives for references that you can call in order to discuss the company’s work. In addition, the Internet is always an excellent source of reviews from past customers.
• Delivery & Pickup i k • Themed Party Decorations • Bartender Service • Customizable Menu Selections
After ensuring that the company is reliable and of an excellent quality, you can feel free to hire your caterer if you so wish. Be sure that you have a clear budget in mind before initiating the catering process. Your Lawn & Garden Professionals
Choose the Right Landscaper
Landscapers and the landscaping companies they own or work for provide a wide variety of services for their clients, and finding one that offers what you want for your home — at the right price, of course — is essential. How can you be sure you’re choosing the right landscaper? KNOW WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR When you start to think about hiring a landscaper, look at your neighbors’ lawns and gardens and look through landscape and garden magazines. This will help you find ways to express how your lawn to look and to identify the types of plants, trees and flowers that might best fit your landscape. IDENTIFY WHICH SERVICES YOU NEED Make a list of your specific needs and decide which services you will require from the landscaping company you hire. Most landscaping companies offer the following: weekly or monthly lawn and garden maintenance, weed control, tree pruning and shaping, garden installations, inspection and maintenance of irrigation systems and possibly even the construction of retaining walls or other structures. You may want a landscaper who will mow your lawn regularly but find that having someone who prunes the trees is more critical. Be sure to identify which services you need and which you want. Then you’ll be ready to begin searching for the right landscaper. KNOW YOUR BUDGET Cost is always a major consideration when hiring a landscaper, and the best way to stick to a budget is to set one. Be sure you know how much you are willing to pay for the landscaping services you need and what you can afford and are willing to spend annually on your landscaping. This will help you to determine which services on the list you created are truly necessities. In order to stick to your budget, you may need to make sacrifices. If you need to have a new landscaping wall built in order to protect your 20
home, you may need to hold off on the top-notch sprinkler system you want to install. If the irrigation system is a must, you may need to limit the number of times you have your lawn mowed each month. Don’t get discouraged, however, if your budget for landscaping looks a little tight. You’ll find that some landscapers charge less than you might expect for these types of projects in order to get your business. GET REFERRALS Word of mouth is a great form of advertising, and a good landscaper will come with excellent recommendations. If your neighbors have been using a service and you like what you see, ask them which company they are working with — and ask them about the pros and cons that they see with the services. If your friends or family use a landscaper, seek their advice as well. You may also want to do an online search for local landscaping companies.
Our experienced specialists can handle your landscaping needs, including...
No matter what, check the BBB and the Internet for consumer reviews of the companies you find. If you see many negative reviews for one company, it may be better to move to the next one on your list. CONSIDER AVAILABILITY One of the first questions that you should ask any landscaper you interview is when they will be able to complete your limited-time projects and how often they will be available for maintenance. If you want to be home when the landscaper is working, be sure that they work in your area when you can be there.

how to
Choose an Auto Repair Shop
No one likes to think about needing an auto repair shop, but selecting a good one is like having health insurance: you hope you never need it, but you have it “just in case.” When it comes to cars, all vehicles will require repairs or service eventually. You could even say that three things in life are certain: death, taxes and car repairs. Having an existing relationship with an auto repair shop will save time and hassle when your car needs an immediate repair If you’re not sure how to build a good working relationship with a shop, try taking your car in for regular maintenance; a well-cared-for car will run longer and more smoothly, as well as incur lower operating and service costs. Some things to keep in mind when searching for an auto repair shop: • Less than 40 percent of new auto shop customers are walk-ins. Most people are referred by friends, relatives, or co-workers. If you haven’t received any recommendations, make sure you ask your prospective auto shop for references. • If you travel often, look for an auto repair shop that offers a national warranty. For instance, a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months is handy for repetitive issues. • Check the shop’s range of services and whether the shop has the latest technologies to properly diagnose problems with newer cars. For example, can your prospective shop handle brake systems, electrical components, and high tech computer diagnostic work? Do they provide a loaner, rental car, or shuttle service while your car is being repaired?
• Look for a good customer satisfaction policy, good condition equipment and lighting, and cleanliness and organization. These factors all contribute to the level of professionalism, gaining customers’ trust, and to optimal service.
Being Safe While on the Road is Your Number One Priority We’re Here to Make it Easier for You
• Look for brand-names and proper certification. Does the auto repair shop use brand-name parts? These parts are engineered to meet the manufacturer’s specifications and will likely come with a warranty. Are the auto technicians certified by a specific car manufacturer, the National Institute for Automotive Services, or Automotive Science Excellence? Is the shop approved by the American Automobile Association? If so, this indicates a customer approval rating of 90% or better and the ability to adequately perform the services they advertise. • Whether you are considering a big name franchise or an independently owned shop, compare the usual services and fees of each shop to familiarize yourself with average price ranges. Don’t select a shop based purely on lower prices; shoddy service or poor quality parts can mean more repairs and higher costs in the long run.

You Want Satori’s! “With the level of confidence that I feel towards Satori’s and the work they have done on our vehicles, I have and will continue to recommend Satori’s Auto to anyone who needs a trustworthy mechanic to do high quality work at a fair price. Thank you once again.”
“Auto repair done right by people you trust”
After you’ve chosen a facility, try to establish a good working relationship with the mechanic. Since your car needs preventive maintenance anyway, take it to your new mechanic for a trial run such as an oil change or air conditioning check.

Choose Alzheimer’s Care
Fortunately, there are many options when it comes to Alzheimer’s and dementia care centers, though it can be difficult to determine one center’s level of care over another. If you find yourself in the difficult situation of having to place a loved one in an Alzheimer’s center, look for these key features to find the perfect program for your loved one and your family. The first thing that a family should look for in a care facility is one that is dedicated solely to treating those patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. These disorders are very complex in nature and require staff that is both knowledgeable and dedicated to their patients. Look for a facility that employs staff that is very knowledgeable in the care and treatment of those with Alzheimer’s. Ask to see the center’s policies regarding experience requirements of staff as well as ongoing or continuing education for the staff. An Alzheimer’s care facility should treat every patient as an individual. Each patient should be evaluated to determine where they fall in the Alzheimer’s spectrum – beginning, middle or end stages – and care should be tailored to the patient’s personal needs. Be sure that your loved one is assessed on a regular basis as care requirements change with the level of Alzheimer’s or dementia that they are experiencing.
environment at the center. Are there gardens for relaxing? Quiet sitting areas for meditating or reading? Are the rooms comfortable? Your loved one will be living at this center and it is important that they feel at home. Feeling at home will ensure your loved one’s ease of transition into the care center. Living in a care center should not feel like boot camp nor should it feel like a locked hospital ward. A perfect facility will ensure that their residents are just that: residents. Your loved one should be able to live in a way that they are comfortable and happy while having access to round-the-clock medical care.
At all our facilities, we understand what the resident and their family are dealing with, and we are here to help. Our philosophy is to treat each person with dignity and respect and as an individual, not just another number. We strive to improve the quality of life for every resident as well as their family members.
Be sure that the facility has activities, outings and other services for the residents. A great center will give residents access to supervised picnics, fitness classes, craft classes, religious events and field trips to ensure that their residents remain as active as possible for as long as possible.
Our facilities consist of rooms for Special Care Alzheimer’s/ Dementia, as well as Assisted Living Apartments. We provide delicious meals throughout the day to ensure good meal intake, specialized therapeutic activities for those with memory problems to help stimulate the senses; and caring and experienced staff that provide individualized attention.
If your loved one will be leaving a pet behind, look for a center with a pet therapy program.

Before deciding on a residential facility, tour the center and get a feel for the environment. Ask to see a model resident room and, if permitted, ask to speak to some of the residents.
920.850.5235 for information on any of our locations
If you can, tour the center on a weekend when residents are more likely to have visitors; doing so will allow you to speak to other family members who have had to make the decision you are making now. Those professionals that care for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia know that family support makes all the difference. The center should provide ample opportunity for family visits, activities and outings that the family can take part in.
Someone in the beginning stages, for example, may need only minimal assistance while someone in end stage dementia may need 24-hour care and attention. The best facilities understand this and require regular evaluations and adjust the level of care as needed.
By following these key guidelines, you’ll be sure to choose the best program available to you and your loved one. It is of utmost importance that your family member is cared for just as they would be in your own home.
Another thing to look for is the living
With care and research, you’ll be sure to find the perfect center for your loved one.

how to
Choose a Garden Center
As spring draws near, the birds start to come out of hiding and many people begin to turn their attention to gardening. Starting in January, mailboxes throughout America begin to be stuffed with seed catalogs. Although the perfect looking pictures can make your mouth water, not everyone wishes to start their spring garden from seeds. There are many other options to consider when planning the garden of your dreams. In many cases you will have more than one choice for a garden center in your area. Choosing the right one for you may be confusing. Ask yourself what features are important to you. It is simple to become familiar with the industry as long as you pay attention to a few key things. HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN IN BUSINESS? The longer a garden center has been in business, the more likely they are to have great service and offer quality plants. Even if the greenhouse or garden center has changed ownership, it is likely that there has been a continuation of business practices. While the length of time in business isn’t necessarily the only thing to be considered, it is a good indication of sound business practices. Many times when a business is sold the original owners stay on to provide training to new employees and owners to help with a smooth transition. This process of a smooth transition can often be a good indication of good management as well. IS THE GARDEN CENTER LOCAL OR NATIONAL? Sometimes this can be difficult to determine. In many cases, garden centers may belong to a franchise and get their plants from other areas while having a local management team. This can make it more difficult to have control over the final product that you may buy. A greenhouse that grows all of their own plants from seeds has full control over their inventory. The closer the plant is grown to where it will eventually be gardened, the better the end results will likely be.
Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
It is important to understand that plants are shipped in very small containers for long distances. This can cause the plants to be subject to more plant diseases, most of which won’t be apparent until the plant is already in your garden. OPEN POLLINATED, GENETICALLY MODIFIED OR ORGANIC? Anyone who has spent any time digging in the dirt knows the meaning of these buzz words. Recently they have made it to the top of all gardening organizations. Open pollinated designates a seed or plant that will reproduce itself purely if seed is properly saved from the fruit of the plant. An organic seed or plant has been produced without artificial or chemical pesticides. Genetically modified plants are created by laboratory technology that manipulates the plant’s genes. For example, instead of mixing two different kinds of corn to create one that is more resistant to diseases, they may combine genes from corn and a totally unrelated tomato plant. These modifications do not happen naturally in the breeding process. People are very wary of genetically altered seeds and plants. The truth is that there are many advantages to this type of plant. On commercial farms, this type of plant can give distinct advantages over those that are not genetically modified. In a backyard garden however, this is usually not necessary. When shopping at a garden center, you should know what types of plants are being offered. Many will have identifying points listed on the tag. If not, you should check with the staff to get information. Generally, commercial crops are more likely to have genetic modification done on them. There are many other points to consider that will help you make the right decision about a garden center or greenhouse. All else being equal, spend some time visiting all of the options. You may find a combination from several provide you with the best results. It’s important to feel free to shop around and compare prices. Customer service is also very important. Generally, gardeners are friendly and knowledgeable and always happy to give you pointers. You should find that the garden center you choose is informative and friendly.

Special Purchase Springfield Armory and Ruger Handguns
Choose a Handgun
Choosing a handgun, whether for home defense or concealed carry, is a decision which takes a lot of consideration, a lot of shopping, and if you’re new to the market, probably a lot of talking to merchants and other gun owners. Being properly informed is your first step on the road to responsible gun ownership.
When it comes to handguns, there are two variations: the automatic and the revolver. The automatics are the typical clip-fed modern handgun and usually come in smaller calibers, also known as “auto calibers.” Automatics are complicated machines and can be trickier to clean and operate than a revolver, but they make up for it by being fast to fire and easy to reload.
SIZE AND CALIBER Whatever your level of ability, there is usually a handgun on the market that will fit your needs, both technically and physically. It’s a good idea to always make sure you physically shop for a handgun at some point, regardless of how you intend to buy it.
Revolvers are much simpler machines and have been around a lot longer than automatics. They have a wider range of calibers available, are easier to clean, but firing speed and reload time is significantly reduced. A revolver is a good option for a beginner, but there are good automatics for novices as well.
Pistols comes in many shapes, sizes and calibers, and the choice might seem a bit overwhelming. The first thing you should consider is size. If you aren’t going to be carrying the pistol on your person, a larger framed pistol will serve you just fine. You’ll be able to hold more ammunition in the magazine, and your recoil and sighting will be much more manageable.
It is more important to have a gun with pointand-shoot accuracy instead of sighted accuracy when it comes to self-defense. If you are being assaulted, you are probably not going to have the need to draw a bead on your attacker, nor will you have the time. When you’re shooting for selfdefense, you’re usually firing fast and instinctively, so it’s good to have a gun that reflects your firing style.
If you’re trying to find a handgun to carry concealed, a smaller pistol will serve you better. While you won’t have the weight to help absorb recoil, or the longer sight plane, you won’t have to worry about it nearly as much. Most concealed carry guns are designed to be used at close ranges, as well as remain hidden when not in use. Caliber is an important consideration as well. Larger caliber weapons will deal more damage with every hit, but at the cost of recoil and size of the weapon. While your objective shouldn’t be to kill an attacker, you’ll want to choose a large enough caliber to put a stop to any threat you might face. Smaller calibers will work better for novice shooters and those who need a smaller weapon outright. OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER There are a few other important decisions to make when it comes to choosing your handgun to make sure you’re buying the correct weapon. First off, you should be able to operate the weapon easily and without complication. Take time to learn about the gun you choose, and make sure you know about loading, firing and switching the safety on and off before you attempt to use the weapon.

Choose the Best Piercer/ Tattooist for you
It is your ultimate responsibility to choose an artist who has the cleanliness of a surgeon and the talent of a drawing master. Sometimes this means investing some money to get the tattoo or piercing that you want. You need to tell yourself that this expense of time and energy is worth it, as it is an investment in what is ultimately a permanent work of art. There are many kinds of skilled artists working in tattoo studios. In Wisconsin it is illegal to be a tattooist in an unlicensed facility and these people should not be mistaken for professional piercer/ tattoo artists although they claim to be. Every professional body piercer and tattoo artist is required to have an up to date practitioner license stating who they are and their specific profession.
artist is to walk up to someone, whose tattoo you admire and ask them who did the work. They will be the first to recommend the artist if the artist is good. In most cases, strangers are likely to give you better advice than your friends. The problem with a friend is that they may be a “friend of a friend of the tattooist and not be familiar with the tattooists artistic or business reputation at all. There are many things to look for when you visit a studio to check out an artist. Have a look around. You should look for a clean environment, ensuring needles are changed for each client and floors are mopped after every client session is done, seating areas are cleaned frequently and that the artist wears medical gloves and washes their hands. Ask to see their autoclave and spore test. Ask to see portfolios and look for new and healed work. Ask how much experience the artist has had and about any certifications such as first-aid training and blood-borne pathogen training certification and how often they take continual education classes. Try to chat with all the staff and see if you feel comfortable with letting them work on you. If everything meets these standards then you should get a new tattoo or piercing.
Every professional body piercer and tattoo artist is required to have an up to date practitioner license stating who they are and their specific profession.
The only way to properly assess a piercer or tattoo artist is to see examples of his or her work. Every artist should have a portfolio which should consist of photographs of work that they have done. You should also visit the shop or studio and ask if you can watch the artist in action. One reason to do this is to get a feel for how the artist works and the ability of work that they do. Auto Body and Collision Repair
Choose an Auto Body Shop
We all like to believe that we’re good drivers. Yet even good drivers can’t control the actions of less-than-good drivers. That’s why we have collision insurance, and accidents do happen, even through no fault of our own. In the event of an accident, you’ll most likely want to get your car repaired. It follows that you’ll want to get your car repairs done right by an auto body shop. But how do you select an auto body shop? If insurance is involved, the company may want you to go to a certain shop, or get multiple estimates. It is your right, however, to have the repairs done where you would like. An insurance company “approved” shop is not an indication of its quality, but rather means only that the shop and insurance company have some sort of agreement on rate setting. And while getting more estimates is a good idea, it is not a legal requirement.
experiences with various vendors. Once you have gotten a list of names, you can consult the Internet for more information and customer reviews. Internet testimonials, both positive and negative, need to be taken with a grain of salt. No business has a 100 percent satisfaction rate. Keep in mind that people are more apt to leave a negative review than a positive one. Furthermore, unscrupulous businesses can pad their own positive reviews and leave negative reviews for competitors.
High-quality
Then narrow your list and begin to shop, check for plainly displayed prices, certifications and guarantees. Get estimates, making sure that the estimates are thoroughly detailed so that, as you compare the proposed work with other shops, you can compare apples to apples. If you encounter an estimate that is substantially lower than others, be wary. Low prices may be tempting but they may also mean sub-par work, used parts and paint that is not applied properly.

High-quality shops should be able to complete all manner of body work, from minor touch-ups to a full-body repair. While dents and scratches are the most obvious needs, it is important to understand that even the smallest accident can throw your entire car into structural disharmony. A full-service body shop can look at not just the surface repairs, but also check to see if the overall structure of your vehicle, such as the frame, has been compromised. A good starting point is to talk to friends and family in your area that have had some first-hand experience dealing with auto body repairs. They can share both good and bad 26

how to Choose a Mattress
In order to function at your optimum level, you need the proper amount of sleep. If you are trying to sleep on an old mattress or a mattress that is too firm or soft for your physical needs, you are not getting the restful sleep you need. Sleep deprivation can affect your mood, your job performance and your overall physical health. You should definitely take the time to shop for a mattress that is more comfortable than the old or inappropriate one you are currently sleeping on. A new, better quality mattress can improve both the quality of sleep you get each night and your quality of life each day. Before you decide on a mattress, you should consider the size of bed that is most comfortable for you. If you share a bed with someone, you will need to consider their sleep requirements and physical needs also. Adjustable beds are ideal for some couples but they may not be an affordable option for everyone. Keep in mind that the purchase of such a bed is a long-term investment, so the cost may be one that you can justify even if it temporarily strains your budget. Once you decide on the best size of bed for you, you will need to explore the mattress options available. One of the newest and very popular mattress options is a memory foam mattress. A memory foam mattress contours to the body shape of each person sleeping on it. This can be beneficial to people who often lose sleep due to back, neck, and leg pain. There is an element of stability with a memory foam mattress. The movement of one person is less likely to disturb the sleep of the other person. Pillowtop mattresses are also a popular choice. These mattresses have an extra layer of softness for additional comfort. They are
probably not the mattress for you if you are seeking a really firm surface to sleep on. However, the mattresses are rated on a scale that indicates their level of firmness. This makes it possible to find the firmest and most comfortable pillowtop for you.

If you have physical pain such as back pain or neck pain or if you have circulation problems, you may want to seek advice from your physician, a physical therapist or a chiropractor concerning the best type of mattress for your specific physical condition. A mattress that contours to your body and adjusts according to your body’s temperature may be the ideal mattress for you. These are a good option when you share a bed with someone. The mattress will adjust accordingly to each individual person’s body design and temperature.

how to Choose In-Home Care
As people age, they often need more care than they once did to be able to live on their own. The same can be said for those facing debilitating disease. Previously, the only option for those needing long-term care was moving into a nursing home. This option can be both expensive and traumatic for people who are forced to uproot their lives. While many nursing homes offer compassionate care, the move can be an unpleasant one. In-home care has given people a new option and is becoming increasingly popular. For those in need of regular attention who do not want to move out of their homes, in-home care offers the perfect compromise. Rather than traveling back and forth to a medical facility, professionals can travel to the home of the patient. Not only is it a convenient and comfortable option, it is normally less expensive than the care offered at a full-time medical facility. With the rising popularity of in-home care, many cities have several different providers located within their borders. Companies often specialize in different services ranging from housekeeping and errand running to daily medical assistance. With all of the options available to you, speaking to a physician or a local Aging Resource Center can help you narrow down your choices. They can not only help you explore an in-home care provider but help you gauge the level of care that your loved one requires. By speaking to several different in-home care providers, you can compare the types of services they offer. These services typically fall into three categories: — Personal care: Personal care providers can help with daily grooming needs, help in getting around the home and any special diet requirements. The care giver can help prepare meals or run simple errands. Be sure to check into the training backgrounds and requirements of the personal care providers. Not all providers are equal in this area. It is also 28
important to know the exact level of medical care you or your loved one will require. Providers vary greatly in this area with some being able to give 24-hour care and others only able to perform simple tasks like reminding patients to take their medication. — Companionship: Those who are at home are often lacking companionship. A good inhome care professional can provide friendship, grocery shopping, light housekeeping, running errands as well as general care. Whether it’s reading aloud to your loved one or playing a game of cards, an in-home care provider can give your loved one mental stimulation by incorporating activities such as these. — Medical Care: Care requiring a physician order. The client must be homebound and care is provided by a Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist. A skilled need must be present. Check with the provider if you have questions about this. This type of care is usually covered by Medicare.

Be sure you are very clear on the medical qualifications of any in-home care providers you are looking at. Make note of any training, degrees and certificates (licenses) that are held by the providers. Check if the agency has a 24hour on call staff person. Such accessibility can be a valuable service.

Know the services you will be paying for. You do not want to pay for services that are not required. You also want to be sure that the company offers the services you need. If you only require simple tasks to be performed around the house, you should not have to pay for medical care as well. Make sure that you select a company you can trust. The people they send will be in and out of your home and ingrained into your life. Get recommendations from other people who have been in a similar situation. Choosing an in-home care provider is about finding the right mix of services for your needs. By finding the right match, you will experience the benefits of companionship, comfort and cost savings that make in-home care such a popular choice. WI-5001487887

BOOK W RLD
Choose a Bookstore
The bookstore has not yet been replaced by electronic readers such as the Kindle or by online book shopping sites such as Amazon. For readers or people who love to give books, the bookstore is still very important. Choosing the bookstore which will be part of your life is a fun decision to make. There are several factors which might influence your decision. In a metropolitan area, there are often many bookstores to choose from. Genre Bookstores Some bookstores try to fill a niche by focusing on one or two genres. These bookstores usually also offer a more general selection so as to appeal to a wider audience. There are mystery bookstores, spirituality bookstores, fantasy bookstores and others. General Bookstores Other bookstores stock books in all genres, which is great if you have eclectic taste. Some general bookstores build up their selection of books from one particular genre. Special Services by Bookstores • Guidance on what to read: A new, personal touch that many bookstores have added is a shelf of books recommended by their staff. This can yield good suggestions for your next read. Some bookstores employ experts in particular genres. These employees can help you find good books for your taste. • Special orders, mail order: Many bookstores do a lot of special ordering for their customers. The service is quick and free. You can request whether you would like to be notified with a phone call or email when your order arrives. Also, local bookstores do a lot of shipping, even for their local customers. The order often comes directly from their supplier and the service is quick and reliable. • Serving their community: Some bookstores feel like a gathering place for community. If this is important to you, shop around until you find the bookstore with the large bulletin board, coffee shop and special events Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com

You’ll feel informed about your community and probably meet likeminded people. • Supporting local art: You may have a taste for art as well as books, so you might find a bookstore that exhibits local art. • Inviting patrons to stay awhile: If you like to read in a comfortable chair, you’ll probably find a bookstore that caters to you. It is now common to see armchairs next to lovely tables and lamps where the shopper can enjoy reading in the store before deciding to buy. Used Bookstores Some people choose to buy used books as well as new. Bookstores sometimes sell both types. A used bookstore might be a way for you to recycle books you’ve read and decided not to keep. Sometimes you can earn money for your books, and sometimes you receive store credit. If you love to buy books, the store credit might be just the thing for you. Pricing Bookstores have varied pricing. If you need to save money, check out rewards programs. Some bookstores offer discounts after you have bought a certain number of books, or spent a certain amount of money. Sometimes the coffee shops within bookstores have a similar discount program. Also, be sure to get on the email or mailing list, if available, so that you can learn about special sales and promotions.

how to Buy a Diamond
The sparkle, the shine - it just can’t be replaced by any other stone. Buying a diamond can be stressful if you haven’t done your research. Your local jeweler can show you and teach you what you need to know when shopping for a diamond. How much should you spend? DeBeers is known for saying that a man should spend two month’s salary on an engagement ring for his fiancée. Choose a comfortable amount that you know you can afford. In the diamond world, the four Cs are known as cut, color, clarity and carat weight. CUT Cut truly is the craftsmanship applied when cutting the facets of the stone. A well cut diamond sparkles beautifully. Cut can also refer to the shape of the diamond. Several popular shapes are listed below. • Round: The classic, traditional cut. The majority of diamonds sold are round. • Princess: Brilliant-style shape with sharp, uncut corners. Typically cut square, generally has 76 facets and has as much brilliance and fire as the round diamond. • Emerald: Usually a rectangular shape. The flat planes of the outside edges allow for a variety of side stone shapes. • Pear: A brilliant diamond based upon the round brilliant diamond. A typical teardropshaped diamond will contain 58 facets. • Radiant: a straight-edged rectangular or square stone with cut corners, 62-70 facets. • Marquise: A football-shaped diamond. • Oval: A very romantic cut. COLOR The color of a diamond has the second biggest impact on its price, after carat weight. Diamonds are graded on a scale of colors ranging from colorless to light yellow. The scale ranges from D-Z, with “D” considered colorless. Colorless diamonds are typically the most valuable. Colored diamonds in natural fancy colors like pink are becoming more popular thanks to Jennifer Lopez and command the higher prices, most are sold to collectors. CARAT Size doesn’t matter, but a quality 1 carat diamond can be just as impressive as a 2 carat diamond if the clarity of the stone is better. However the size of a diamond does have the biggest impact on its price. The metric carat, which equals 0.20 gram, is the 30
standard unit of weight for diamonds. A 0.5 carat is about 5.2 mm in diameter-width and 1 carat is about 6.5 mm in diameter width. CLARITY Most diamonds have imperfections. Clarity refers to how clean or clear the diamond is . The clarity scale ranges from FL-13, flawless to imperfect. GIA Diamond clarity scale • FL-Flawless: No imperfections inside or outside the stone under the loupe magnification of 10 power.

Before purchasing the perfect stone, ask about guarantees and maintenance. Your jeweler should offer a guarantee or a warranty on your diamond. They should also explain the maintenance of the stone to you. Diamonds worn every day should be checked by the jeweler at least twice a year. Another important aspect to consider is insurance. Often the jeweler has insurance policies available. Many homeowners polices also cover diamonds. Insurance for your jewels should not be overlooked; your investment should be protected. According to local diamond buyers there are several things to be careful of when buying a diamond. Watch out for diamonds that have been enhanced, whether with color or clarity. Also beware of fake diamonds like CZs or Moissanite. Find a jeweler that you trust and that will provide you with a high quality diamond that meets your expectations. The Gemological Institute of America is an independent grading laboratory for the diamond industry. Search their Web site at www.gia.org for more information.

Creating Generations of Smiles! Providing Top Quality Care in a comfortable, inviting, family-friendly environment.
Choose an Orthodontist
A good orthodontist provides a treatment regimen customized to the individual and delivered through compassionate service. Orthodontists all complete similar education and training requirements, but not all are equally gifted and caring practitioners. There are several traits the best ones all share. Word-of-mouth recommendations from neighbors, friends and coworkers provide some of the best information on the orthodontists in your town. People who have had a positive experience while sitting in an orthodontist’s office are usually eager to spread the good word. Service Good service is one of the prime requisites when searching for an orthodontist. You’re going to be visiting him or her very frequently for a year or more. It’s wise to find one with whom you can build a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. Many initial visits are complimentary to new patients, so pay close attention to the way the staff treats you and others. Children are often orthodontic patients, so watch their actions and emotions closely. If they come in with a smile of anticipation, you know you’re in the right doctor’s office. You’re going to be seeing a lot of the staff as well as the doctor for several months. It helps if you and they share a cordial relationship. Also, the patient waiting area should be comforting and soothing. People lead very busy lives these days. An orthodontist who schedules his or her appointments to reduce waiting time is a treasure. Hold out for one who respects your time schedule, too. Feeling at ease with your orthodontist is another important factor in having a good overall experience. Having an orthodontist who listens to your questions and provides clear answers is a necessity. You’re not just a number on a patient file. A good orthodontist regards you as a valued client and treats you accordingly. Dental assistants are active and contributing professional members of your treatment team, so it is wise to form good relationships with them as well. training supplemented by continuing education classes. They are professionals, not the hired help. Technology There are several orthodontic systems for straightening teeth. Ask your doctor during your first visit about which technologies he utilizes. Each system is quite different from the others in terms of appearance and function. Some require more adjustments than others, and some take longer to do the job.
Offering orthodontic treatments for adults, teens & children including:
This is also the time to ask lots of questions about the technology. Your orthodontist should explain the trade-offs between one system and another. Each system has its strengths and weaknesses. Ask him to explain why he or she prefers one method over the others.

There are always advances being made in orthodontic procedures and the patient is the one who really benefits. One popular option for braces today is the Damon System, which doesn’t use elastic or metal ties. Since there are no “rubber bands” in your mouth, the Damon System is a discreet, comfortable, easy-to-clean choice that doesn’t attract plaque like older-style braces that use elastic ties. Two other popular orthodontic treatments are Suresmile and Harmony.

Clear Braces Clear braces are a great option for people who are very concerned about how their mouths will look during treatment. While invisible braces are heavily promoted, they aren’t right for every patient. Clear braces are the next best thing. Orthodontic patients are unique from one another, just like everyone else. Some have teeth that are more crowded than their neighbor’s, while others have special individual needs. Clear braces often work better for these people than do clear aligners, a more gradual straightening technique. If you’re considering clear braces, ask your orthodontist why he or she uses a particular type. This information will help guide your choice in which system you opt for. Orthodontia is a significant investment not only of time and money but also of self-esteem. The right combination of education, certification, experience, technology and personality will give you a worthwhile experience and a smile to be proud of!

Choose an Employment Service
Finding a job with today’s economy is very tough. Many people are turning to employment services to assist them in that search. Employment services can connect people who just need a short term job to help with presents at Christmas time or help an executive land a new job. It really is all up to you.
Also look for in an employment service that will help the potential employee put together a resume. These resumes can be done in various ways, and the employment agency should help the candidate assess which is the best format for them.
Types of Employment Services The first step in choosing the right employment service is to understand what type of service can help you the most.
Additionally, look for an employment service that offers classes to train the potential candidate to interview better. Some of these classes may be held in person. Other classes may be held online. Still other classes may be delivered as a newsletter in the mail or in emails.
Employment services fall into three different types. The most popular service is a private placement service which works to bring job seekers to employees who are looking to hire. The expected outcome from this service is that the correct employee is found for the company.
Look for an employment service that offers a high success rate. The service should be able to give references of people that they have helped in the past. They should also be able to show you how they are actively searching for jobs that meet potential employees skills and interests.
Other employment services are temporary help services. They exist to fill voids when employers need additional employees for short periods of time. These are particularly popular with retailers for the holiday season and for landscapers for the summer season.
Contact the Service The third step in choosing the right employment service is to contact the service. Ask them about how they are paid.
The third type of employment service is retained search firms. These firms help specialized companies find highly qualified candidates for specific jobs. Sometimes these employment services are known as executive head hunters. Many employment agencies have one or two vocations as a specialty, and you want to make sure that your particular interests fall within this realm so that the service will be able to provide you the most benefit. Research what Skills the Employment Service Offers The second step in choosing the right employment service is to find one that offers the services that you need. Look for one that will help you assess your strengths and weaknesses. There are several tests which employment services can use to assist in this process, but nothing replaces an in-person interview.
Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
Some services are paid by the future employer. Others are paid by the employee upfront and still others are paid by government grants. Make sure that you understand how the employment service will be paid before they do work for you. Interview The fourth step is to set up an in-person interview. This will allow you to ask any questions you have about their services. It will also allow you to sign up for their classes and resume services. Find a Job The last step is to let the employment service assist you in finding a great job. Finding a legitimate employment service should not be overly difficult, but you should still take your time when trying to find the right one for you. While jobs are not easy to find, employment services offer great assistance in doing so. Make sure to choose the type of employment service that will help you the most. Then get busy finding that great new job. Your future success depends on you starting today.

Choose Your Television Service
Cable TV Cable TV is a paid TV service. Cable TV is satellite TV that uses a series of communication satellites orbiting the earth. The signals (channels) are picked up by multiple satellite dishes and fed to a central location called a headend. From the headend, the signals (channels) are combined and fed throughout the community via a system of cables to your home. Channel selection, convenience and local government channels are among the strong points for cable programming. It also carries more bandwidth than traditional over-the-air broadcast, which allows for more channels and doesn’t require an external antenna. Cable also delivers channels in High Definition (HD). However, cable television is usually only available in urbanized or developed areas. This type of programming can be less friendly on your budget.
Satellite TV Satellite TV is a paid TV service. Like cable TV, it uses a series of communication satellites orbiting the earth to send signals directly to subscribers’ households through an installed satellite dish. This type of programming virtually eliminates the “middleman” and delivers clear, crisp signals directly to your house. Channel selection, quality, availability and cost of programming are among the strong points for satellite programming. It offers more channel selections than over-the-air broadcasts and can offer more programming than cable TV. Satellite TV is available anywhere, even in undeveloped areas. Local channels are also available in programming packages as well as HD channels. Satellite TV requires the installation of a satellite dish somewhere on your property.
What to look for in your television provider When considering a provider for your television service, pay attention to these points. Know Your Provider • Television is important to you. A local television provider can respond quickly when service is needed and they’ll know how to service your unit. • When you decide on a type of TV service, do the research. Read the paper or look in the phone book. Local advertisers should be local providers of service and maintenance.
Know Programming Packages and Costs • It is also important to consider the packaging and channel selections when choosing your provider. As stated above, not all providers have the same channel selections nor offer
the same prices. • Make sure all costs are noted up front. Many providers have hidden fees and surcharges. Cable and satellite providers offer different packages depending on channel selection and quality of programming. There is a programming package that is right for everyone! Know What the Provider Offers It is important to know the benefits the provider offers. What hours during the day are they available? Weekends? Holidays? Will they service your installed units? Providers should not only provide you with service, but also be available for any question s you might have. Select a provider that not only offers the programming that is right for you, but also services it, is local and trusted, and will be there when you need them most.

Affordable Alternative to Avoid Probate Prepare Your Estate Plan
It is a common misconception that only wealthy people need to worry about estate planning. However, this is most definitely not the case. Regardless of your circumstances, whether you are rich or poor, old or young, you really should create a plan for the handling of your property and other assets in the event you die unexpectedly. Not having a sound estate plan can result in legal difficulties, great inconvenience, unnecessary taxation and family strife. Taking the time to consult with estate planning professionals can have a significant impact on your lasting legacy. The best estate plans are those crafted with the assistance of an experienced lawyer who can create documents written with your specific circumstances in mind. Candid information about personalities, the size of your estate, and your goals are vital to a sound estate plan. DOES YOUR ESTATE REQUIRE COURT SUPERVISION? A Will subjects your estate to the probate process. Probate is the court-supervised process of transferring assets from a deceased person. Reasons for court supervision may be ill feelings among those who are left behind, assets that are difficult to value, or taxes or creditors that need to be paid, just to name a few. When you think about whether your estate requires court supervision, you must also think about the future. If your children get along now, are you sure that will always be the case? In cases where it is needed, the protection of the Probate Court is valuable. But in many instances, such as that of a close family, or of a surviving spouse who is the sole heir, often unnecessary and burdensome. There are alternatives to probate, which when used in the right circumstances can be faster, cheaper, and more user-friendly. Among them are: Joint tenancy. This passes the property by the designation on the title to the joint owner. Transfers on Death or Payable on Death designations allow designation of a successor on the title of real estate or accounts. Use of these methods, while simple, can unintentionally alter a person’s wishes. If you have one child, and two step-children by a later marriage, a well-meaning bank agent or financial manager can designate a transfer on death to your child when you meant to leave your estate to all three children. Trusts. While most often used to minimize estate taxes , or to provide for management by skilled money managers, the trust can, and is, often used to avoid the probate court. A trust can give Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
you all of the income, as much of the principal as you desire, and can be revoked. What makes it somewhat cumbersome is 1) its up-front cost, and 2) the transfer of all of your property into the trust. All property, including property acquired after the trust is in operation, must be titled in the trust. You must be ever-vigilant to insure that everything is owned by the trust. Wisconsin has a better way! The “Washington Will” The Washington Will, first developed in the State of Washington, is in fact a statutory agreement that simply avoids probate. Nothing has to be transferred-all assets are covered. If you have a Will that accomplishes everything you want, you can develop a Washington Will that attaches to your Will to transfer the property, but without the supervision of the probate court. It is inexpensive to draft, and takes no vigilance to ensure that all is covered as does a trust. ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS OF GOOD ESTATE PLANNING Every adult should have a Will, regardless of age, but that only represents one piece of a solid, comprehensive estate plan. A Health Care Attorney appoints a trusted person with making health care decisions for you if you are incapacitated. A Financial Power of Attorney does the same for making financial decisions for you if you are unable. A Declaration to Physicians (Wisconsin’s “Living Will”) directs your doctors if the Health Care Attorney is unavailable. COMMUNICATION IS KEY Think and discuss with your spouse and/or perhaps with your family, the effect that an unexpected inheritance may have. A windfall of the money that you have saved for your safety and the safety of your children may have exactly the opposite effect that you intend. Too much money at a young age can ruin a child’s life. Regret over a squandered inherence is all too common. Finally, an important part of an estate plan is communicating with your family about what they can expect to receive as part of the estate. You should be frank with them and, while you don’t necessarily have to go into every detail, they shouldn’t be too surprised by the size and nature of the inheritance they receive after your death. Many estate disputes and heartache can be avoided by simply engaging in open communication. This is another area in which a good estate planner can be helpful. Estate planning is their professional focus, and that includes the complicated family dynamics and concerns that typically accompany the process. With the right estate plan and experienced professionals to help, your estate can be a blessing that your heirs will treasure for the rest of their lives.

how to Choose the Right Dentist
Selecting a dental professional is key in maintaining one’s health and appearance. The process can, however, prove challenging, given the impressive growth in the number of practitioners working throughout the nation. In the past, picking a dentist posed little difficulty whatsoever. Routine cleanings, x-rays and the handling of more complex dental procedures were all the duties of the local dentist or the dental office that was designated by the patient’s insurance company. These days, patients tend to conduct independent research in order to find a dentist in which they have complete confidence, and one they believe is best able to improve their dental health in a convenient, comfortable environment. The process of selecting a dentist should include consideration of several factors. Physical location and hours of operation are key. It makes sense to seek a dentist whose office is near your home or workplace and operates at times convenient to your family. Getting recommendations from loved ones and colleagues can be a great way to identify the best dentists. Dental offices often have their own websites which include lots of useful facts about the practice itself and the educational and professional backgrounds of those working there. A few things to research on a dental office’s website include the rates to be charged for various types of procedures, how appointments are handled and what kinds of specialized services are offered. You should also try to learn how much lead time is usually needed in order to make appointments for teeth cleanings and other routine procedures. It is important to find a dental office able to provide emergency services when unexpected issues arise. You can learn whether a given office offers such services by simply placing a call during business hours. Try to find a practice staffed by knowledgeable, personable employees. Some basic information should be verified in regards to any prospective dentist prior to an initial visit. Check that they have earned the necessary degree from a reputable school and are current on all licensing and continuing educational requirements. Ideally, they will be Sunday, April 29, 2012 | htrnews.com
familiar with the latest dental technologies and trends. Always make certain that a prospective practice accepts your dental insurance. The best dentists are known for providing state-of-the-art dental care while striving to create and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile for their patients. Payment policies should be discussed in advance of any procedure, with estimates being given for any and all services. If dental insurance will be used, always check to be sure your chosen dentist accepts your coverage type. If they do not, you may need to find an alternate dentist. Discuss payment plan options ahead of time, especially for the most expensive procedures. When visiting a dentist for the first time, he or she should be professional and friendly. Every dentist should be willing to answer any and all questions pertaining to the individual patient’s needs and concerns. If phobias and pain are concerns, patients should make that fact known during an initial visit with a prospective dentist and determine what can be done to alleviate them. Many dentists are willing to go above and beyond to cater to patients with these specific issues. A basic oral health history should be taken by the dentist, and possible future treatment and prevention options should be discussed. A good dentist will work to make his or her patients comfortable and should have a pleasant chairside manner.
Giving Your Family More Reasons to SMILE Prevent higher costs of dental services. Have the smaller problems resolved before they become bigger. Save money on your dental care with preventative maintenance! First impressions mean a lot when choosing a dentist. If the dentist, hygienists or office staff create an atmosphere that is anything less than professional or competent, a new dentist should be sought.

The best dentists offer friendly, happy dental experiences. They place a high priority on the preferences and concerns of their patients and offer exceptional, cutting-edge dental services. Teeth are extremely important to overall health and appearance and should be entrusted only to the very best dentists. Finding a good dentist truly is akin to finding a true friend within the dental industry who consistently makes it their goal to improve the beauty and health of their patients’ smiles.

how to Choose an Electrician
We tend to take our every day “creature comforts” for granted. We flip a light switch in our homes and the lights go on. We adjust the thermostat and the house gets warmer or cooler. Our electrical systems generally work so seamlessly that we tend not to think about them until we have a problem. A problem or a power outage reminds us that just about everything we do, from cooking to cleaning, depends on electricity. Electricity and the electrical systems in our homes operate everything from kitchen appliances to the hot water heater and the entertainment center. As simple as it may seem to us as consumers of electricity, problems with the electrical system and wiring in a home are not problems for the average homeowner to attempt to resolve. The electrical current running through our homes is a huge benefit but it is also capable of causing grave injury or even death to someone who does not understand the dangers. And, improper repair creates a real fire danger. For that reason, it is wise to hire a licensed electrician to make any electrical repairs. Since most of us do not deal with electricians every day, how do we insure that we have found a knowledgeable and experienced professional? Here are a few simple tips that will help to ensure that you find the right licensed electrician for your project: 1. If you sense that there is a problem, do not wait until it is an emergency. Often you will have a warning such as a flickering light or an outlet that doesn’t work unless you jiggle the plug. The time to act is when you suspect a problem. Take that opportunity to ask family, friends and neighbors whether they know any experienced electricians. 2. Contact that electrician and request information about their license, availability, experience and rate. 3. If the electrician you have called cannot provide you with references and a current license, call someone else. A reputable and experienced electrician will take care to keep his or her license valid and current. 40
4. Ask for references from recently completed projects. A reputable electrician will understand and gladly comply with your requests. If they cannot provide references, do not hire that electrician. They may do substandard work or not have recent experience. 5. As an additional check, especially if it is gong to be a major project, check with the local Better Business Bureau for complaints. It is possible that even an excellent electrician will have a disgruntled customer or two. So, if there are any complaints, check out how those complaints were resolved. 6. Use the above guidelines to contact at least three electricians. Have them come to your home for the estimate. This will allow you to see if they dressed professionally and check out their personality and demeanor. This will allow you to compare rates and get a feel for what to expect. 7. Make sure that you get all estimates in writing. Read over the estimates to insure that everything is covered including a description of the job to be performed, total cost, time for completion, insurance coverage and clean-up. If you have any questions, make sure they are answered and included in the written estimate before you sign a contract or agreement. Ask about guarantee and warranties.

8. Keep in mind that the lowest price is not necessarily the only criteria you should consider. Many times you will get what you pay for. The electrical system in your home is far too important for you to choose simply by price. 9. If you are undecided, you can “audition” a potential electrician by asking that they perform a small repair before you hire them for a large project. You can, for instance, hire the electrician to replace an electrical outlet. This will allow you to get a feel for whether the person starts on time and has a good work ethic. By following these simple suggestions, you are much more likely to find that perfect electrician for your repair or remodeling project. WI-5001483202
