I was never a big football fan. I always let my family members go to the game. They would be so excited before going. When they came home I relived the whole game vicariously through them. The time just never seemed right for me to go. Secretly, I was hoping somehow I would get to go too. It just never seemed to happen. I would just watch the games on TV and say maybe next time. This playoff game on Sunday, the 8th, was my next time. My daughter called me about the weekend, she said we are thinking of going to the game. Do you want to go? WOW! I have a chance. Yes, I would go. She said she would get tickets. Sure enough the tickets arrived on Thursday morning. I was going to the game! I celebrated my 81st birthday on Friday and now the game on Sunday. What a weekend! Of course it was cold so my kids dressed me. My other daughter gave me her extra warm Packers jacket to wear. They all made sure I had layers on and warmers in my boots and mittens and of course, we tailgated. My family came well prepared so it was very enjoyable. I even got interviewed by our local TV station. So many said they saw me. Lambeau with all it its sights and sounds is amazing. Now I see what I have missed out on all these years. The game was so exciting. The crowd was electric!!!! You could not help get caught up in the excitement. It was just such a great experience. I hope to go again soon.

I grew up in Minneapolis, firmly entrenched in Viking country; but, I was mostly indifferent to football and barely understood how the game was played. However, I did have friends and family that bled purple, so I guess I was a Vikings fan by association. In 2003, due to a chance meeting in Chicago, I found myself dating Joe, a die-hard Packers fan from Green Bay. In what I am now sure is a typical Green Bay dating ritual, Joe invited me to my first Packers game (it was also my first professional football game ever). The Packers were scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs on a fall afternoon in October, and I was excited to see what the hype was all about. When my best friend from the Twin Cities, Stephanie, found out that I was going to a Packers game, she was irate. Not because she disliked the Packers, but because she was a football fanatic, and it seemed completely unfair that a novice like me would get to attend a game at historic Lambeau field. She knew the enormity of the moment would be lost on me. Because Stephanie was living vicariously through me, I secretly plotted a way for her to come along, at least in spirit. I printed out a lifesized picture of her face, and ‘Flat Stephanie’ traveled to the game with us. We took pictures of her tail-gating, in the Pro Shop, with St. Vince, and of course in the stands. The Packers fans were amazing and welcomed Flat Stephanie into the fold. She was extremely popular: she wore a cheese head, drank beer and danced in the parking lot. When I got back to Minnesota, I surprised Stephanie with a photo album of her adventures. The Packers ended up losing in overtime, but, in a way, Joe and I won. I can’t say the game is the only reason, but we ended up getting married almost exactly one year after that day. I moved to Green Bay, and now, 12 years later, I’m a die-hard Packers fan too. Nothing can duplicate the wide-eyed magic of that first game, but the closest was when everything came full circle and the real Stephanie finally came for her first game: Packers vs. Vikings. Even though she cheered for the Vikings, seeing the game anew through the eyes of someone who has never been to Lambeau made me appreciate my first game and my adopted home town all the more.

What was this thing called football? I was adopted from Ethiopia five years ago when I was 12 years old. I only knew of ‘football’ as what I played with my friends in the orphanage with a ball made of rags tied together. Soccer was my ‘football’. I will never forget my first Green Bay Packers game. Everything was new to me. But it was so exciting! I felt a sense of awe and pride as I listened to the Star Spangled Banner which now was my national anthem in my new country. I had chills that day, and I still do at every Packers game I attend. I could feel the excitement of the crowd as the “Go Pack Go” chants pounded in my chest even though I wasn’t quite sure what “Go Pack Go” meant! The food wasn’t anything I had eaten before but finishing the horse collar sausage was a challenge that I conquered. I was surprised at how great it tasted, even though I wasn’t sure about that when I first saw it! What has made me a lifelong Packers fan (besides my family’s influence) was the comfort I felt when seeing the green and gold uniforms of the Packers players. The national colors of Ethiopia are red, green and yellow. It’s ok that the red is missing! The game was amazingthere was so much action. It’s cool that there were different players for offense and defense and that the football was moved by throwing AND running. Even better, the players could touch the ball with their hands! I love sports and I love to win! The Packers won the first game that I attended. But, even if they had lost, I think that it would have been ok. I can see that nothing compares to how much the fans support the team and how exciting it is to be able to watch OUR team.

I am from Kaliningrad Russia and have been living in Green Bay since August. You see I am one of the goalies for the Green Bay Gambler’s hockey team. My team practices and plays our games at the Resch Center so, I get to see Lambeau Field almost every day. I live with a family (in hockey they are called my billet family) that lives less than two miles from the stadium. They are huge Packers fans. When I moved here, I did not understand football. But, I have watched the games with teammates and my billet Dad and I have learned to really enjoy the game. By far my favorite Packer is Aaron Rodgers. The Gambler’s had their Christmas break from Dec. 18-26. For me to fly from Green Bay to my home town of Kaliningrad is a 30 hour flight with four connections. If the weather was bad, I would not have made some of my flights on time. Plus, the flight is very expensive for my family. So, my coach and my family decided that it was best that I not come home for Christmas. I have never in my life gone more than three months without seeing my family. So, I was very sad that I could not go home for Christmas. My billet Dad surprised me with tickets to my very first Packers game on Christmas Eve. He got the tickets from the President of his company, McMahon Associates in Neenah. That made my entire week! And it gave me something really exciting to look forward to instead of missing my family. When the day of the game came, the weather was perfect. We had a fresh blanket of brilliant white snow and the sun was shining bright. I had my poster all ready for the game. My billet Dad and I got there early enough to walk around the Atrium and check out the Packers Pro Shop. At the game, there was lots of scoring for both teams and it was such an amazing experience to be there and cheer on #12. I took lots of pictures and even took a video when Aaron Rodgers ran the ball in for a touchdown. I was extra excited when the crowd got the wave going. I never have seen anything like it! I will remember going to this game the rest of my life. It is so true that there are no fans like Packers fans!!!

My husband works as an usher for Packers games. He loves the game-day atmosphere and that’s why he has been doing it for 27 years now. However, that means our 10 yr. old has been aching for the opportunity to attend a game. It means, I would have to be the one to brave the weather to take him. The Dec. 11th Packer vs. Seahawks game was the first game for both Logan and me, and what a game! A generous co-worker offered us the opportunity to buy one ticket and in the spirit of the game-day experience, gave Logan his ticket in Row 30. We took pictures with snow-covered statues of Curly Lambeau and Vince Lombardi before the game. Luckily, for us, the snow stopped falling for the game. It revealed a crisp green and gold experience. At 10 years old, Logan was surprised that the field itself seemed small as it was dwarfed by the magnitude of the stadium, yet the players looked much larger than they did on television broadcasts, I remember him commenting. Packer touchdowns kept the crowd on their feet, and high-fives dominated the atmosphere. It was a perfect first game day experience! Logan has been ready to go back since we left the stadium that day. The only thing needed yet to complete the experience, is the opportunity to be a part of the fan “wave” at Lambeau Field!

My first Packers game was this year with my boyfriend. He surprised me with Packers tickets one week before my birthday. What made it super special was that the game was on 10/20/16. The actual day of my birthday. We each took a half day off of work and headed to Green Bay. To me the best part was watching the players practice on the field up by the fence before the game. Watching the players get into their mindset and prepared for the game, just increases the adrenaline. It was AWESOME! The brisk air was chilling to the bone, but a Packers win made it worth it.

This December 8th, marked the two year anniversary of my most memorable first game experience back in 2014. This was by far my most memorable first game experience because I attended it by invitation from my long lost sister, Mae Lou. I had found Mau Lou on Facebook earlier that year...“thank you social media” is what I’m thinking to myself. Mae Lou and I met once before this reunion, at my wedding in 1979. We lost touch after that, and I reconnected with her 35 years later. So when she called me on the phone and asked me if I wanted to go with her, her son, and my daughter to the upcoming Monday night home game, I said to myself, “hhmmm, well, let me think about it. Let’s see, a Monday night, nationally televised game, at the frozen tundra, at the historical Lambeau Field with my newly found little sister and our kids?” “YES!!” I screamed. We tailgated with friends and family. We played the Atlanta Falcons for a win of 43 - 37. It definitely was an exciting game. It was fun to watch the teams play in that weather that night. The Packers had their 5th consecutive victory as Aaron Rodgers made three touchdowns himself. We had a twenty-four point lead to hold off Atlanta. The Packers stayed a game up on Detroit. We were 10-3 as we both fought for division leads. And I was sitting next to my sister, whom I now consider my best friend.

The famous “Ice Bowl” between the Packers and the Dallas Cowboys was being played and I was stuck at home. My Dad and brother were already at the game. Living just blocks away, we could hear the cheers of the crowd from our house. I was dying to go! I spent the first half trying to convince my Mom to take me to the game. I was 8 years old in 1967 and had never been to a game. Home games were blacked out in Green Bay, so we had to listen on the radio. I had only seen the Packers play away games on our black and white TV. Finally, my Mom relented and we went to the Stadium. A woman in a fur coat and her husband were leaving the game at half-time because it was so cold. The game-time temperature at Lambeau Field was about -13°F and there was a wind besides. I asked her if we could have their tickets. “Sure” she said and gave them to me. We went in at last. I was amazed by the shiny helmets and the bright colors! I was so excited to be there that I didn’t even feel the cold! A person behind us offered me some hot chocolate. I said “No, thank you.” My Mom elbowed me and said “Why didn’t you take it? I’m freezing!” I replied, “Because you told me never to take anything from strangers.” It was the game of a lifetime! I still have the ticket stub and the fantastic memories of being at the most famous Packers game ever! Now I enjoy bringing my own children to watch the Packers at Lambeau.

The year is 1947. I am 6 years old and the luckiest kid in the world. The “chosen child”. My father Harold Neuzil and my grandfather Frank Neuzil, who have season Packers tickets, are taking me to the big game in Green Bay to watch the Packers play. Instead of listening to the game on the radio, I am going along with them. For a rural farm kid from Algoma this is as good as it gets. I did not need a ticket because back then if you could sit on someone’s lap, you could attend the game. The stadium was located on the east side of Green Bay near the East River. It was a wooden stadium with a wooden fence surrounding the field. Our seats were on the end of a row and during the game I could sit on the wooden steps by my family. We were in the east end zone, but close to the field. As we got closer to Green Bay, I kept asking my Dad, “How much longer, are we there yet, can I get something?” The excitement of seeing “real “football players, the sounds of game day, the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the cheering and the crowds. I was hooked after my first game. When my grandfather died in 1952 I was allowed to take over his season ticket. Our family has 3 season tickets, which we still hold today. In the early 60’s I left home to attend college in Stevens Point. How lucky I was to find out that my local barber in Stevens Point also had season Packers tickets. I got to go to Green Bay with the barber & his wife for every home game. My mother would come along with my Dad and sit in the car listening to the game on the radio. At half time I would always go out to the car and visit with mother. After the game we drove back to Stevens Point. I saw many good years and some not-so-good. I had some personal favorites like Tobin Rote, Deral Teteak, Al Carmichael, Bart Starr & Brett Favre. I also saw the first “300 pound” player in football, Les Bingaman from Detroit. I still remember many men wearing a suit and tie to the game. Women always wore real fur coats to keep warm during the winter games. You were like royalty. You had season tickets to the Packers game. I am now 75 years old and as I am walking out the door to drive to Green Bay, my wife always asks “do you have your ticket?” I am still as excited as that 6 year old kid attending his first game. The excitement has never ended. The fun has never gone out of the game. The sight of Lambeau Field, the smell of tailgating, the excitement in the air, the sea of green & gold, and I am still the luckiest kid in the world.
Congratulations Arnie!

On December 5, 2010 my wife and I had an opportunity to see the Packers vs. 49ers game at Lambeau field. While she had attended previous games, it was the first time I could attend a regular season game. Her uncle got some tickets for us, so we had great seats very close to the field. The Packers were seeking a playoff spot, and would eventually win the Super Bowl a few months later! I remember feeling how fast the action was in person. It was so exciting to see the players up close, their expressions and conversations. Compared to television, it was a personal experience instead of just a show on the screen. During the game, Donald Driver caught a pass and barreled through multiple tackles on his way to the end zone for a 60 yard touchdown. It was one of the most exciting plays of the season and we saw it up close and in person. Even from the stands, his smile is one of the most memorable sights for Packers fans. It was a special season for the Packers, and a special moment for us as a couple. We still talk about that game and the experience, and how great it was to share it together!

My daughter and I were at Pizza King many years back. As we waited for our pizza, my daughter said there was a contest box by the door. She asked me if it was ok to enter my name for the drawing. I said sure, knowing I never win anything anyway but it kept her busy for a bit filling out the form. I didn’t even bother to read what the drawing was for. Within a couple of days I received a phone call from a friend very early one morning. She said my name was just announced on the radio and I had to call the station to claim my prize. I called the station, not knowing what this was about, not knowing what I had won, and forgetting my daughter’s entry in a contest box at Pizza King. When I called back, I found out I had won tickets to see a Packers game, but it wasn’t a home game. It happened to be an all-expense paid trip for 2 to a game in Seattle--flights, hotel room, tailgating party and the 2 tickets. This was my first Packers game--my first Packers experience. It will always be remembered as a fun time with my husband.

My first Lambeau experience was better than I could have ever imagined. My son surprised me with a ticket to the opening game this year. It was one of the things on my bucket list and my 60th birthday present. Much better than any birthday party. I was able to share this day with him and my 80 year old mother, who had not been to a game for 50+ years. We arrived early, I wanted to be able to experience everything. Starting with the traffic on the highway, Packer fans one vehicle after another. We arrived and found a parking spot in the lot right by our gate. After setting up for tailgating, pictures and meeting our neighbors, we were able to enjoy the band that set up right next to us. We sang along and danced. My first tailgating experience at Lambeau was amazing. Everyone is friendly and hyped for game time. My son made me carry a sign saying it was my 60th birthday, embarrassing but fun, everyone that passed us said happy birthday. Walking into the stadium to find our seats was a beautiful site. Green and gold everywhere. We were by the tunnel, so I got to watch all the players roll out onto the field, then the huge US flag while the National Anthem was sung, the fly over. What a rush that was. The alumni attending that game were right in front of us on the field, another great experience. The game was unbelievable, the noise was awesome. I keep saying I can’t believe I am sitting watching the Green Bay Packers on the field playing football right in front of me. It doesn’t get any better than that. I loved every minute of it. The PACKERS, chants, cheerleaders, huge packer flags, noise, green and gold everywhere, fans, the whole experience I will never forget any of it. It was the best birthday present ever.
Congratulations Debb!

The year was 2014. Our mother had just passed away. As a thank you for taking care of our parents, my younger brother treated me to my first ever Packers home game! I could choose whatever game I wanted. What a dilemma, division rivals like Da Bears, the Vikings or Lions or should I pick a team that we don’t play often? I picked my second favorite team after the Green and Gold, of course, and chose the New England Patriots! Anticipation grew over the course of the coming months. Fall arrived and every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday found me glued to the TV in my favorite recliner enjoying the games. November and Thanksgiving weekend had finally arrived! I had family over for turkey, fun and football. Then Black Friday shopping and decorating my house for the holidays. The weekend highlight had finally arrived along with frigid temperatures. I was warm with excitement (Cuddle Duds, hot packs, winter jacket and a new Packers hat helped as well)! Walking through the parking lots inhaling the aromas of many a tailgate party and seeing the smoke hang in the air spelled football for me! Packers’ fans sure can party and cheer well before the game has started! We headed for the Lombardi Trophy for a selfie a treasured photo! We found our seats and then scrounged up some food, a tasty burger with all the toppings! Watching the very heart-warming and patriotic on-field flag display during the National Anthem brought tears to my eyes. My favorite referee, Ed Hochuli, was doing this nationally televised game. Excitement was in the air and on the field. Team introductions and seeing the Packers enter through the famed tunnel was so cool! Because we were dressed in blue, the person behind us asked if we were rooting for the Patriots! Seeing the coaches pacing the sidelines strategically calling plays made for an intensely exciting game. The sounds are so much more intense and everything seems bigger and more real. Our seats were near the end zone and as the Packers scored often, there was lots of actions along with the thunderous screams of 78,000+ fans! Being there in person is an awesome and unforgettable experience! The hits, the chants of First Down and watching the famous Lambeau Leap was so cool, up close and personal! Feeling the tackles, hearing the thump of an extra point or field goal, and immersing myself in enjoying the moment was unbelievable! The thrill of the game (and a victory) lives on in the many photos I took of my first game and then creatively scrapbooked. This game did not disappoint. I could not have picked a better match-up as My First Game! A Packers win on the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field with my brother. Our parents looking down on us, football is family. Thank you Dave for this experience you have no idea how much that meant to me! Your football-loving sister thanks you all season long!
Congratulations Sara!

Close your eyes. Find your happy place. Are you there? Have you ever had anything just flood you with emotion? Calm you but incredibly excite you at the same time? The night before, I can hardly sleep. I keep smiling & shaking my head in disbelief. It feels like I’ve been waiting for this for so long. I’ve looked at these two, little cardboard pieces of paper over and over. Are they real? Is this really going to happen? I wake up far earlier than I should have. It’s like being a kid, waiting for your parents to wake up Christmas morning. Finally, we’re on the road. I hold these cardboard pieces of paper in my hand all the way there, continuing to look at them as if they’d disappear if I take my eyes off of them. We pull into a lot far down the road. I see people dressed like me. I hear people yelling and cheering, expressing how I feel inside. There’s a rush of excitement in the air and we haven’t even walked out of the lot yet. We start to walk up the street toward the stadium. With each step, I feel the excitement rising. I’m trying to keep the tears inside. These people like me, they’re everywhere! It gives me goosebumps and I think to myself, “These are my people”. We make our way to the parking lot of the stadium. There’s so many people! Is this real? Am I going to wake up? As we make our way up the stairs to the stadium entrance, my heart is pounding. My adrenaline is rising. I’m actually shaking. I’m so excited. I’m about to enter the Promised Land. God himself is going to open the gates of Heaven. We’re finally inside! I can hear the chants of the masses of fans walking through the corridors. We find our entrance and start to head to our seats and then it happens.... I walk through the entry way and catch my first sight of the field. I’m here. It’s happened. It’s so beautiful and I can’t help it, I cry. Lambeau Field is my happy place. You think you understand the excitement when you see it on TV, but you don’t. You can’t. You have to experience it. At home, I yell, I scream. I expect this will be the same at the game but it’s not. I close my eyes and listen to the thousand yelling, “GO PACK GO”, and just let it all sink in. It doesn’t matter that it’s a Pre-season game that the starters aren’t playing. It doesn’t matter that the Packers haven’t even scored. It’s the 4th quarter, its pouring rain & I don’t care. I’m undressed, cold, wet and yet, I have never been so content. I refuse to leave and miss even one second of this feeling, because for me, this is it. I close my eyes, breathe in, and filled with pride, know that I am home.
Congratulations Tanya!

Dick Glueckert Algoma, WI How well I recall my first Packers game which occurred at of all places Wrigley Field! That’s right, the home of the Cubs! It was November 7, 1954. After attending Sunday mass I ran into one of my eighth grade classmates. We pondered what we should do on this beautiful autumn afternoon. One of us came up with the idea to go to the Bears/Packers game. We checked with our mothers who were only too glad to get rid of us for the afternoon. We hoped on the Addison Street bus and got off at Clark and Addison right in front of Wrigley Field. We wandered around in front of the ticket office, not really knowing what to do. A man in a business suit approached us and asked if we were going to the game. We told him that we were and then he asked if we had tickets. When we told him that we didn’t, he handed us two tickets! They turned out to be box seats right next to him. He explained that he was from Milwaukee and that two of his friends were unable to come. All game long he treated us to hot dogs and popcorn. What a day to remember! The Bears won the game 28 to 23 but my friend and I had a lifetime memory. I actually told this story to Mark Murphy a few years ago and he loved it. It’s hard to imagine that something like this could ever happen in this day and age. Those certainly were “the good old days.”
Congratulations Dick!

Lisa M. Milwaukee, WI My first game at Miller Park was very memorable, but not in the way many might think. Other than the Brewers, I can’t even tell you who the opposing team was that day. I know that’s bad, but I’ve never been particularly sporty. I can tell you that “we” won that day! Funny how the Brewers are still MY team, even though I couldn’t rattle off the starting line up if you paid me! That’s what’s so cool about sports. Everyone can find some aspect about going to the game that moves them. The life in that stadium is not something that can be described. The buzz, the excitement and apprehension the die-hards let on to, it does something to the air. For me, it was about the company I kept that day. A new budding relationship with a man who still loves me, my best girlfriend with whom I shared the good and bad. I think the best memories, the ones that live the longest and bring us warm feelings when we close our eyes in reflection... the ones we felt like the best versions of ourselves in... that’s what I remember about my first game. Free to relax, free to be silly, free to plant a kiss on Bernie’s cheek if I so choose and I did! What a blessing it is to be reminded of simpler times. Thank you for that.
Congratulations Lisa!

Kylie Beaver Green Bay, WI Nothing is better than getting an early Christmas present so when my best friend sat me down in November, I thought to myself this had to be good. I opened the card and two tickets to my first ever Packers game were inside! I was shaking I was so excited, I think I even cried a little! I had only lived in Wisconsin for about 5 years and never had been to a game and the best part was the game was only a few short weeks away so I didn’t have to wait much longer. I work down the street from Lambeau so I see how amazing the setup is so I could only imagine what being inside Lambeau was like. One of my favorite moments was turning around at the top of the steps and seeing all the people filter into the stadium, I could see them for what felt like miles. Once inside, it was time to find our seats. I’m not sure why I didn’t check to see where they were prior to us arriving but boy was I surprised. Not only had my best friend bought me Packers tickets but they were one row up from the field on the 30 yard line. I was RIGHT there! I felt like I could touch Mason Crosby’s hand. Being inside Lambeau is nothing like I could have imagined, I know it sounds cheesy (pun intended) but there was almost a magic to it. Nothing will ever beat my first Packers game.
Congratulations Kylie!

Margaret Strutz Appleton, WI My first Packers game was with my grandson Josh, in 2009. He was 10 years old at the time and filled with the excitement of the crowds, as was I. The bleachers were filling up fast and furious waiting for the Green & Gold to come roaring out of the tunnel. When they came running out the 80 thousand plus fans jumped to their feet in an explosion of cheers and roars that are hard to understand unless you’ve witness it on those hallowed Packers bleachers yourself. Josh and I settled down waiting for the first snap and I looked over to find my niece, Tanya (unexpected… she lucked out with tickets from someone that couldn’t make it) seated next to us. We cheered together... laughed together and shared lots of high-fives. At half time, we had to have the famous brats.....and couldn’t walk past the souvenirs (Josh is showing off his in our photo). The fans around us were so nice and so much fun. One of them gave Josh his winter Packers scarf after he found out it was Josh’s first game. We got to do the wave 3 times around that day, another fun packed experience embedded in our Packers experience. Josh and I have been to five more games since then. In ending, my favorite part of all 6 Packers games with my grandson was when he got up on the bleachers at the ages of 10,11,12 and danced (today, he would deny the dancing) with the other 80 thousand plus fans. When he tuned 13 he said, “no bleacher dancing OK Grams” so we proceeded to jump instead, cheering until we were hoarse, laughing and building great memories together on that great ol Lambeau Field. Josh, now 17 years old, makes Grandma and his family proud. Sporting events make great family memories, meeting new, and old friends for a full day make ya smile... you can laugh and hug the people you love. Thanks Josh for the precious time I spent with you. And thanks to Mary and Elliot our Green Bay friends that gave us food and shelter for Packers game days… since we live all the way in Appleton!
Congratulations Margaret!

Stephanie Weber Peshtigo, WI I haven’t had the chance to attend many games, but the first one in particular that I remember attending... was a Brewers game. I went with my significant other, both sisters, brother in law, and my parents. I remember this specific game because it was so much fun being able to spend time with the ones I loved, while enjoying the atmosphere with thousands of other people. It was the first game I ever attended having been surrounded by so many fans. I remember when everyone cheered when one specific player came onto the field, my dad had to explain they weren’t “booing” the player but saying his last name. I remember seeing how excited the fans got when a home run came in, when Bernie slid down the slide, and just how cool it was that no one seemed to have a care in the world while sitting back and watching the Brewers play. I can’t wait till my son is old enough to start having the same kind of memories I have with my family, with me. I love being able to attend events like this because it’s cherished time spent with family and friends.
Congratulations Stephanie!
