22. Harness & Shoe Shop
30. Gift Shop
Built around 1900, this building served as a meat market in Valders. It was later moved and used as an office at Valders, then moved to Pinecrest in 1973. It depicts the harness and shoe repair shop of Wenzel and Ed Sykora of Tisch Mills. Basic equipment and tools were donated by Joyce Sykora.
Built in 1866, this building was the home of Ludwig and Elizabeth Sieker’s family until 1908. It was used as a summer kitchen by Willie Scharmm until being converted into a garage in 1942. Donated by Don and Arlene Umnus in 1979, it serves as a gift shop featuring a variety of books on local history, historic games, and gift items.

manitowoc county Where history Lives
WherehistoryLives.org is a new website that features a portal of information for those interested in Manitowoc County history. There you can discover our many amazing museums, explore fascinating historical places, dig into your family history and find out about upcoming historical events and exhibits. Nearly 20 organizations from across Manitowoc County are represented on the site, which was made possible from a generous donation from the Wisconsin Historical Society. The grant was given in conjunction with the 2009 release of the Wisconsin Public Television and Wisconsin Historical Society production “Hometown Stories: Manitowoc/Two Rivers. If you have lived in Manitowoc County your whole life, have moved here, or are just visiting, you are sure to discover something new at WhereHistoryLives.org.

Children’s Discovery Village and Picnic Area Visit us in 2011 to experience our all new Children’s Discovery Village and family picnic area. The area features picnic tables, a play set, a wooden locomotive, and playhouses inspired by our village buildings. Children can explore history and role play as they take a break from their tour. Families can extend their museum experience by packing a picnic lunch and planning extra time for their children to visit their own museum. Major gifts and contributions to the project have been given by Bank First National, the Kallies Charitable Trust, the Stangel Fund, Heartland Play Systems, Braun Building Center, Lakeshore Technical College, Lowe’s of Manitowoc, Lakeland Landscape, Jim’s Excavating and Lakeshore Forest Products. The project was made possible through the special efforts of the Chamber of Manitowoc County’s Leadership Program.

McAllister House Welcome Center restoration
Believed to be the oldest standing farmhouse in Manitowoc County, the McAllister Home will soon become the new Welcome Center at Pinecrest Historial Village. The structure was moved to the Village in August 1998 and over the last few months work as the new Welcome Center has been making remarkable progress. Local architect Tony Fodden has developed a detailed plan for the restoration of the McAllister House Welcome Center which, when complete, will include an A.D.A. compliant welcome center, gift shop, exhibit space, restrooms and a classroom. The second floor will include a kitchenette, offices, and storage space.
$200,000
$150K
The History The McAllister Farmhouse was located on Plank Road in Manitowoc Rapids. It was built by Hiram McAllister, one of the first settlers of Manitowoc County, who came to the area in 1837. After working his 178-acre farm for many years, McAllister returned to New York State in the 1870s. Other owners of the property included John Landreth, Henry and August Eberhardt, and Agon Haupt. The home was donated to the Manitowoc County Historical Society in 1997 by the Haupt family.
$100K
Ways to Contribute Please consider contributing to the restoration of the McAllister House Welcome Center. Donations of any amount can be made to the Manitowoc County Historical Society, 1701 Michigan Avenue, Manitowoc. We also invite the community to show their support in the preservation efforts of this historic structure by purchasing a brick that will create a walkway to the new Welcome Center. (information on the brick program is on page 11)
$50K
Please help us raise the final $50,000 we need to reach our $200,000 goal.
