If a RSVP card is returned and includes children, Ribando recommends contacting the guest and politely explaining the situation.

Expert advice for handling
Wedday Day By Jennifer Hogeland Women dream of the day their true love gets down on one knee and she joyfully exclaims, “Yes to his proposal. What she doesn’t imagine is the chaos that often comes while planning the day she says, “I do. Local wedding planners offer their expertise on handling a variety of sticky situations, from handling the unexpected guests to covering the costs of the couple’s special day.

What if guests have not returned their RSVP card?
is a close relative or friend that you know would come, I would recommend calling for a last reminder. Technology is our friend these days as well so an email or text can also be helpful, says Danielle Ribando, owner of Danielle Ribando Events in Green Bay. “Set your RSVP date three or four weeks out so you have an extra week or two to follow up with people, adds Alliey Kline, owner of sash&bow in Green Bay. “The sooner the couple knows who is attending they can start making their table arrangements and telling venues their final count.
2
How do you make it clear if children aren’t invited?
It’s inevitable. While many guests respectfully return their RSVP card on time, others are still missing days after the due date. To get an accurate guest count, it’s necessary to contact the friends and family that haven’t responded.
The wedding invitation should state who is welcome at the wedding. Kline explains the outer envelope should be the formality—Mr. and Mrs. Guest—and the inner envelope should specify who is invited.
“Depending on the timeframe and if it

How can you ease uncomfortable family situations?
If parents are separated, divorced or on bad terms, Kline says the best way to ease an uncomfortable situation is to give them some space. During the ceremony, reserve one row for the mother and another row for the father. Seat them at separate tables at the reception. When a bride has a close relationship with both her father and stepfather, Kline suggests splitting the aisle at the wedding. “One parent might walk the bride halfway up the aisle and then other can take over, she adds.
4
What is the best way to discuss who pays for the wedding?
Before asking parents for money, contact venues, florists, photographers and more to get a realistic cost for the wedding of your dreams. Wedding planners can also offer estimates. Guessing at the expense and being off thousands of dollars can result in an awkward conversation later about needing more money. Ribando adds, “Each family knows their own family dynamics around conversations that include money issues. I tell each couple to trust their instincts on the best
Is it possible to avoid conflict or hurt feelings when selecting the wedding party?
Selecting a wedding party requires great thought. Ribando explains family should always be considered first. When it comes to friends, she suggests thinking before you ask. Can they handle the time and financial commitment—being part of the parties, fittings and wedding weekend? “Make sure to take at least a good month to think about all those you want to include in your day. The biggest question you should ask yourself is, ‘Are we still going to be this close in five years?’ adds Ribando. Don’t feel obligated to ask someone just because you were part of his or her wedding party.
6
What should you do if a member of the wedding party backs out at the last minute?
The show must go on, as they say. “The processional and table arrangements can be easily changed, says Ribando. “I would avoid asking for a ‘replacement’ as that is exactly how that person will feel, like a replacement.
7
What if your future motherin-law wants to be involved in the wedding planning?
Start your relationship with your future mother-in-law on the right foot by including her in some of the decisions. “It’s nice to include the groom’s mother in the planning, so bring her along when looking at venues, cake testing or dressing shopping, says Kline. “The wedding is a reflection on her family too, even if they aren’t contributing the same monetary amount as the bride’s family.

Rebecca (Daanen) Larsen was married on October 18, 2014 in Green Bay. Larsen says Peggy George, of Seize the Day Events in Green Bay, made the process smooth and void of unnecessary stressors.

“I found it necessary to have a wedding planner because I wanted not only myself, but also my family and friends to be able to fully enjoy the day and not have to worry about a single thing!” says Larsen. “I also found it necessary because everyone is so busy nowadays that it was extremely reassuring to know if I forgot something, someone was there to either do it, or keep me on track.” Kline, who is also the state manager for the Association of Bridal Consultants, says a bride should start her search by finding a planner who has the best interest of the client in mind. “If the personality is not fitting right off the bat, move on,” she advises. “You need to have complete trust in your planner. By Jennifer Hogeland While the bride and her dress usually get the most “oohs and “aahs, the bridesmaids and their dresses play a big role in the overall look and feel of a wedding. With so many choices and styles to consider, check out the latest trends in wedding party fashion below.
Bridesmaid
Trends in wedding party wear
Chic styles. Brides are gravitating
toward sheer fabrics, with chiffon as the most prominent fabric in bridesmaid dresses today. Pinterest has inspired the flowy styles brides are now searching for. Lisa Breault, bridal consultant at Elaine’s Wedding and Event Center in Green Bay, explains the styles getting the most attention have an eye-catching back—lace or beading on the back of the dress. “We are seeing a lot of sweetheart necklaces as well as the illusion necklines, adds Ashley Cook, manager at Tie the Knot in Green Bay. “I also think strapless styles will be around for awhile.
Dress lengths. While shorter dresses have been a popular pick for spring and summer weddings, the longer dresses are becoming fashionable year-round. “Brides are leaning toward longer styles because bridesmaids are more comfortable and they don’t have to worry about their shoes. The longer length also goes with the elegant feel we are seeing more of, says Cook.
Colors. The color selected for
bridesmaid dresses is typically a personal preference. Pewter and plum are strong colors at the moment as well as petal pink dresses, which creates a soft, romantic wedding style some brides dream about.
Mismatched gowns. The trend
continues as brides are picking a color, fabric and designer and allowing bridesmaids to pick out their own dress style. “Brides want their bridesmaids to be comfortable. Instead of picking out one style that might not work for everyone, they let each woman pick out a dress she

“By picking one designer and one color the bride can still get a cohesive look while making sure her bridesmaids are happy with the dress they are wearing,” adds Cook.
Personal touches. Brides often
want to draw attention to the maid of honor so they select a different shade or add small details to her dress. “Sometimes the maid of honor may be in a different style dress than the other girls or in a dress that is a shade darker or lighter so she stands out,” says Breault. Adding a broach, changing the flowers in her bouquet or giving her a unique piece of jewelry are other ways to signify she is the bride’s closest attendant.
Accessories. The days of dyeing
shoes are over. Today’s bridesmaids are typically asked to wear black or silver shoes under her dress. Breault explains sparkle is being added to

the shoes with rhinestones on the heel or entire shoe. The jewelry worn by bridesmaids is either big or small, nothing inbetween. Statement necklaces that are common in everyday wear have made their way into bridal, although some brides prefer the women to wear a dainty pair of earrings.
Remember the groomsmen.
While more time is spent fussing over what the women are wearing, brides also want the groomsmen to be sporting the latest styles. “The groomsmen’s vest and tie color typically still matches the bridesmaid dress color, but we’re seeing more wedding parties choose gray tuxes,” says Theresa Schoenborn, store manager at DuBois Formalwear & Tuxedo Rental Green Bay. She explains the groom does like to stand out from the rest of the group, so he’ll select a tie and vest to match the bride’s dress—white or ivory.

You are hiring a planner to make decisions for you or beside you. Look at their past reviews to make sure they are qualified enough to pull off your event.” Larsen suggests other brides begin their search by asking what is included with the package they are receiving and by making sure they understand the gamut of services the wedding professional will provide. Also ask whether they have worked with any of the bride’s chosen vendors in the past and whether the wedding professional has vendors they recommend. Make sure you know if they will take down the décor, and most importantly, be sure to ask if they are able to stay within budget, she says. “Having a wedding planner took the stress out of planning the most important day of a girl’s life,” adds Hansen. “I dreamed about having a

princess wedding and Peggy made that possible! I’m sure I could have done a lot of things myself – however, the most important thing to me was that my family and bridal party enjoyed the day and didn’t have to stress about centerpieces or linens.” And while that enormous amount of information available via Pinterest and other social media sites make wedding planning seem like a great DIY project for this next generation of brides-to-be, wedding professionals can help the happy couples whittle down their vision and make it far more personalized, explains Kline. “I love Pinterest to be able to see what the bride is envisioning and what she is liking,” she says. “We take from what they see there and spin it to make it unique for them. I can’t tell you how many of the same pins I have seen – it is important to make it your own. “A lot of what you see on Pinterest are things that aren’t possible in a venue – not of the right scale to look right or not even an item you can obtain,” she adds. “A professional knows what is possible and how the venues work.
