f i s c a l y e a r 2 0 1 5 w a s a p i v o t a l y e a r at Huntsville Botanical Garden as we worked through the next stages of the new Guest Welcome Center. We began our capital campaign raising $ 7,624,586.59 by September 30, and announced the groundbreaking for January 2016. Committees continue to work tirelessly on the many building details, interior design, landscaping and fundraising all while remaining focused on our guests and providing the community a special place to relax, build memories, learn and reconnect with nature. additional FY 2014-2015 Highlights: • Garden receives seven national, state and local awards • Nature Connects Art with LEGO ® Bricks by Sean Kenney exhibit • HBG collaborates with Auburn University on new Intern Program • Holmes Trillium Collection receives provisional status by the North American Plant Collections Consortium (NAPCC)

Guest Welcome Center Designs and plans were created to build a beautiful southern-style Guest Welcome Center that will feature three new rental facilities, a gift shop, café and meeting rooms. This project will provide resources that will allow the Garden to grow and provide a better place for our visitors, members, volunteers and staff to enjoy, celebrate, work and come together. Groundbreaking in January 2016.

Depar tment Highlights Hort i c u lt u re/S i te • The Holmes Trillium Collection received provisional status by the North American Plant Collections Consortium (NAPCC) and was deemed the most extensive collection of eastern North American native trillium in U.S. Additionally, a Trillium Resource room was created. • A new bridge and Cotten Cove were added to the Bush Azalea Trail. • The Garden’s first conservation plan was developed.

• 2015 Butch Damson Volunteer of the Year: Trillium expert and dedicated volunteer Harold Holmes was the recipient.

• The Education Department collaborated with Alabama Wildlife Federation to form the Tennessee Valley Environmental Educators (TVEE) with a mission to enhance and support formal and informal environmental education.

Garden E vents • Nature Connects Art with LEGO ® Bricks by Sean Kenney The 2015 summer exhibit consisted of 27 larger-than-life sculptures that were on display throughout the Garden from April – July resulting in a 66% increase in attendance and 58% increase in new memberships. • 2015 Vernon Bush Distinguished Service Award: The Garden recognized Virginia Hurst for her many years of service, expertise and leadership with this award. • 2,100 individuals worked 49,000 volunteer hours for a total payroll value of over $1.1 million in a payroll equivalency rate of $23.07 per hour. • Spring & Fall Plant Sale: 800 volunteers gave 5,000 hours of time • Galaxy of Lights: total 1,260 volunteers gave 16,300 hours

At tendance & Facilit y Rental The Garden welcomed over 247,000 visitors representing nearly every state as well as visitors from Germany, Canada, Australia, England, and Peru. The Facility Rental Department hosted: • 56 business meetings • 140 society/club meetings • 57 weddings • 42 parties/luncheons • 35 picnics • 5 memorial services • 14 photo shoots
