Dear Members, It seems that spring has finally arrived, and we can all look forward to more time outdoors with family and friends in May. Our team continues to work hard to bring you more and new member events to enjoy. We will have our third Chef’s Dinner of the year on Friday May 13th, featuring local guest chef, Jay Gust and wines thoughtfully paired by Chris Nuzum from Walt & Hall Winery. The previous two culinary dinners this year have been well attended and this one is sure to be popular too, so please make your reservations early. Mark your calendars also for special dining features for Cinco de Mayo and for Kentucky Derby day. Further details are written later within the newsletter. We are in the final stages of construction of our new pickle ball and tennis courts and provided that the last construction tasks go as planned, we will be opening this new amenity for your enjoyment on the first weekend of June. In addition, get ready for some wonderful activities centered around Mother’s Day. Children can prepare for Mother’s Day on Saturday, May 7th at Kids Club by crafting a Mother’s Day Card from their heart. There is nothing better than a handmade card and they’ll have fun with other craft activities that will be offered. Then, we’ll have our beautiful Mother’s Day brunch offerings. What better way to treat Mom than to leave the cooking to our culinary team and let her enjoy a special day. Don’t forget to explore our retail stores for gift ideas. Alternatively make an appointment or pick up a gift card for her to enjoy some pampering at our STRATA Spa and Salon. Our Fall Festival last year, a new member offering, was such a success that we will be doing a Summer Festival at Kissing Camels Golf Driving Range on Saturday, May 28th. Beginning at 2PM, there will be activities for the whole family to include pony rides, a beer garden, live entertainment from Nacho Man band, a petting zoo, garden container planting and much more. Hopefully, the event will be well attended by members and will become an annual tradition. The month will close with the opening of the Recreation Center Pool on Memorial Day with a Kid’s Club Ice Cream Social from 11AM to 2PM. Enjoy the month with all the beauty May brings to our lives.

Chef Jay Gust is well-known locally as the owner of Ascent Restaurant Group with includes local favorites, Pizzeria Rustica, Tapateria, and Homa Café Bar. He has hosted a farm dinner with A Grazing Life and has been a contributor on numerous specialized menus for past events here at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club. Chef Gust’s menu has been paired with wines thoughtfully chosen by Chris Nuzum of Hall Family Wines. The evening will start with passed hors d’oeuvres and a welcome beverage at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.. Price is $85 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Holiday Events and Dining Cancellation / No Show The 72-hour cancellation policy applies to all special holiday dining and event reservations. A fee of 50% of the prevailing event price for each reserved seat of the event will be charged to the member account or guest who made the reservation and fail to show or cancel within a 72-hour period.

THE KISSING CAMELS GRILLE & BAR | WINTER HOURS The Kissing Camels Grille & Bar is closed Monday and Tuesday, operating Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This schedule will continue through April and will be updated in May. Men’s Golf Association News Men’s Golf Association is a wonderful way to connect with other members and meet new friends. Finding new golf buddies can be difficult but participating in the Men’s Golf Association makes this task much easier. The Kissing Camels Men’s Golf Association will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4th. MGA Opening Day & Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, May 18th. If you have any interest in joining the Men’s Golf Association, please contact Ben Spiers in the Golf Shop. We are happy get you better familiarized with this group should you need assistance. The 2022 MGA roster book will be published soon; if you have a change of address, email or telephone number please contact the Golf Shop as soon as possible. Annual membership to the MGA is $75.

Learn how creativity and self-exploration can support one’s well-being and integrated health to address such areas as self-discovery, depression, anxiety, happiness, improved memory, reasoning, stress and resilience. Psychotherapist, Ron Apgar of STRATA Med, will lead participants of all ages though a mindful painting experience to discovery of self. The canvas painting is yours to keep for continued mindful exploration in the privacy of your own space. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art at San Diego State University, a Masters Degree in Divinity at Lola University, a Theology/Educational Psychology from Princeton, and Psychology from Chapman University. After high school, he served in the United States Army and 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Early in his career, he worked in Guatemala with a sponsored art program duplicating Mayan ancient historic murals for archival references. He then started a successful private therapy practice in Colorado Springs in 1992. Apgar became a popular speaker at the American Society for Aesthetics in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he was approached by a Professor of Philosophy to put his ideas into a presentation (topics: Art and Psychology, Self-Growth Through Creativity, Posttraumatic Stress and Creativity). The Art of Wellness program was originated at STRATA at the Garden of the Gods Resort.

MODIFIED MURPH CHALLENGE Two Weeks, May 16th – May 30th Help honor our fallen soldiers by participating in the Modified Murph Challenge. The Murph challenge derives its name from the Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. This challenge will take place over a two-week period starting on May 16th and conclude on Memorial Day May 30th. The modified Murph challenge consist of doing a variety of body weight exercises combined with a run/walk and biking component. You can finish the challenge in one workout or take multiple days to finish. Every time you complete the challenge your name will be added to the Murph Challenge Wall in STRATA Fit.
