SATURDAY 23 FEB

SATURDAY 2 MAR

SATURDAY 9 MAR

SATURDAY 16 MAR

Kicking horns, tap dancing beats, wacky on-stage antics and terrible jokes. It’s all part of the kooky phenomenon that is the sevenpiece indie pop band Gemini Downs. With their brand new single (Jangle) in tow, and a swag of wiggle-your-bum catchy tunes, Gemini Downs guarantee an afternoon of musical good times.

The loneliness, sexuality and evocative imagery conjured by Carla Lippis’ Country-Noir stylings has transfixed audiences across Australia. Her work occupies a vulnerable space between country, soul and vintage pop. The craftsmanship of her self-titled debut won her the Backwater Blues & Roots award for Best Emerging Blues Act 2012. Come and see why.

Jeremy Whiskey is the founder and frontman of popular APY Lands band, Iwantja. He Is the band’s spokesman and a talented multi-instrumentalist. Expect to hear some smokin’ guitar when you spend the afternoon with this charismatic performer.

Originally from Ceduna, the MERRg’s music has been described as ‘ballodic’ - a mixture of melodic ballad’s. The band’s versatile line up can often be seen swapping instruments during gigs to suit the needs of a song.

Allan Sumner will blow you away. Allan is a Ngarrindjeri man born in South Australia. Influenced by the sounds of rock, reggae, soul & R & B, Allan’s songs tell of life growing up in Adelaide’s north. An accomplished singer, songwriter and musician, Allan released his debut album “Deep Love” in 2011.

Combining the talents of blues maestro Cal Williams Jr, acclaimed Jazz double bassist Kory Horwood, sultry chanteuse Emily Davis and silver fingered banjo player Ben Timbers, The Hushes revive and reinterpret the enduring sounds of the Appalachian mountains, bluegrass, gospel, and folk music. Their acclaimed musicianship, gripping on-stage chemistry and songs inspired by the dark, the divine and the disturbed will enchant you.

JEREMY WHISKEY

Dance the afternoon away with the bright, happy sounds of The Sunlight Band. This is true Central Desert Reggae. Dry heat, hot, sandy winds and crisp cool nights with lightning flickering across the sky, camp dogs, children laughing in the streets and swapping yarns outside the local store. This is all part of the life and songs of The Sunlight Band.

SUNDAY 10 MAR

AMBER JOY POULTON If you love country music make sure you spend the afternoon with the gorgeous Amber Joy Poulton. Amber Joy’s debut album, Taking Goodbye, launched her as one of our most exciting country singer/ song-writers. Since then she has opened for some of the world’s biggest stars including Kenny Rogers. Expect hits from Loretta, Tammy, Dolly and Amber Joy’s own original treats.

Nancy Bates is a Paakantji (Barkindji) woman from far western NSW, and a passionate story teller, delivered across a range of genres from country to rock, blues, and jazz. She has an engaging presence on stage, captivating her audience with the depth and strength of her lyrical content and unique music style. STRUT & FRET PRODUCTION HOUSE PRESENTS

THE CANDY BUTCHERS The show that heralded a renaissance within the new circus movement is back! The Candy Butchers make their highly anticipated return to The Garden to lead you on an exquisitely macabre journey into an imaginary neo-vaudevillian sideshow era. Contemporary circus luminaries Derek Ives (Circus Oz), Azaria Universe (Burlesque Hour, La Clique) and Jess Love (La Soirée, Circa!) and DJ Garner (Cirque du Soleil) join forces to a create delicately touching, visually enchanting and refreshingly dark theatre experience. The Candy Butchers delve deep into the world of old time circus and physical storytelling to create high-risk human spectacle, blending the perverse with the poetic, to create circus with a heart… a twisted black one! What would happen if the laws of gravity were to suddenly change? This is the unusual journey of an otherwise ordinary man whose world becomes physically unhinged. He is a lone man with a small suitcase, whiling away time in a nondescript room. But as time passes he becomes increasingly aware that all may not be what it really seems in his ordinary world.

Frank Woodley (Lano & Woodley) and Simon Yates (acrobat) have teamed up to create an extraordinary new show. Caged and subjected to absurd experiments the twins, Viktor and Vissilli, dream of escape. With incredible comic audacity, a world of hilarious and heart-breaking nonsense is created through acrobatics, stunts, illusions, songs, pratfalls and pathos in the great clowning tradition. Beautiful and bleak. Horrifying and funny. It brings together two uniquely skilled physical and comedic talents to create a new show with big laughs, surprising warmth and explosive physicality.

‘One of our greatest comic talents…at once dapper and goofy, Woodley marries classic comedy schtick with clever, modern material.’ The Age

SAMMY J

What’s off limits? Not much in Eddie’s world. Known for his quick wit and caustic-style of comedy, Eddie Ifft has a habit of speaking first, then thinking, which gets him in trouble – a lot. Eddie has performed to sold out crowds all over the world and is the star of one of the highest-rating and most talked about comedy podcasts “Talking Sh*t” with Jim Jefferies.

Fresh from his ARIA nomination for Best Comedy Album (Skinny Man, Modern World), Sammy J wants to tell you a story. A story about possums, ninjas, blimps, and the joys of swearing. A story about cruise ships, cyclones, and middle-aged men who get too close to you on plane flights. You will enjoy yourself. Potentially.

THE LIFE AND RHYMES OF ABANDOMAN

THE GAMBLER

(IRE)

Abandoman (Rob Broderick), is bringing his hotly anticipated show ‘The Life and Rhymes of Abandoman to the Adelaide Fringe in 2013.

Multi award-winning comedian, author, adventurer and world record holder FitzHigham has lots of bad ideas (for example, he rowed the English Channel in a bathtub). Now, with help from Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, he takes on the 10 greatest bets in history. Sellout at Melbourne Comedy Festival 2012.

With no two show’s ever the same, expect the unexpected as Rob asks his audience to drop their random requests in to the ring and sit back and watch in awe as Abandoman makes musical magic out of thin air.

EVOLUTION OF IMAAN

TOMMY LITTLE

DANDYMAN

Tommy’s two favourite things are camomile tea and gangster rap, which would be perfect if he had a deaf grandma to hang out with. But he doesn’t. Thanks for bringing it up.

Australia’s funniest front man of circus and physical comedy presents a not to me missed night of sublime stupidity. Take a journey of peculiar proportions with Daniel Oldaker as he presents jaw dropping circus, absurd acrobatics and mind-blowing magic.

‘Where Little’s material meets his fearlessly friendly delivery, that’s sublime…the audience was roaring from beginning to end.’ êêêê Scotsman (UK)

‘Daniel Oldaker is a wonderful, mischievous physical comedian.’

A stand-up/storytelling show in which Imaan unravels his experiences of entering the performance world at the age of 15. In his 6th year at the Adelaide Fringe, Imaan discusses the evolution of thoughts, freedoms, religion and his comedy. ‘Provocative, hilarious, challenging, mischievous, original, it never stops.’ Rip It Up 2012

THE CARNIVAL CONTINUES JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU’VE SEEN IT ALL... LOOK BEYOND! The Garden hosts a colourful array of food stalls from around the world. Big and better than ever…come and vote for this year’s best food stall. Ask our foodies for their daily specials, as well as their show recommendations! The Garden Market is full of wild surprises for those who can’t resist a trinket. And what carnival would be complete without a spin on the Ferris Wheel or a bump on the dodgem cars? All the fun of the fair - old school style.

THE MUTANT BARNYARD & SIDESHOW WONDERLAND Adelaide’s favourite freak show returns with an ever-expanding carnival of wonders! The Space Cowboy, Australia’s premier Guinness World Record breaker and the delightful Zoe L’Amore present: THE MUTANT BARNYARD The magnificent museum of nature’s greatest mistakes. Genuine preserved freak animals, anthropology and sideshow memorabilia. SIDESHOW WONDERLAND An international assemblage of human oddities! The Space Cowboy - performing death defying stunts; modified marvel - The Lizard Man; The Baron - our charming and alarming strongman and our sensational electric act - Professor Voltini and Madamn Electra.

VIOOLLUSION

THE CASTELLO

Vioollusion is an absurd, poetic and euphonious short performance in a shipping container.

A mini open-air theatre tent packed with a program of quirky, ridiculous and sometimes just plain silly comedy acts. Each show is a guaranteed, sharp shock of stupidity.

All the way from Amsterdam, Vincent De Rooij the crazy Dutch guy from “Fly” and Adelaide’s own violin virtuoso, Jacob Plooij turn the violin inside out, searching for where the instrument ends and the music begins.

PIGS ON FIRE - DUTCH STYLE Watch out Australian pigs! Pigs on Fire has hit the country for the first time. Get ready to lick your fingers and you too can be the big bad wolf!

THE LITTLE PALAIS A beautifully designed, hand-made tent filled with an outrageous program of comical acts of pure theatrical stupidity. We don’t know why we do it, but we do!

THE COLLABORAGENTS PRESENTS

WHEN CLAUDE MET ROXY, THE EROTIC FINGER PUPPET SHOW Claude is a rather awkward fellow. Upon entering a nearby nightclub he meets Roxy, the local entertainer. Working her foxy moves on him, can he handle all she has to offer? An intimate 10 minute tale for an audience of 4.

AUSLAN INTERPRETED EVENTS

P H YS I C A L ACC E SS

The Garden is excited to announce that our 2013 season will include a number of Auslan Interpreted events.

P : 08 7200 3867

These events have been generously supported by Arts SA and our AUSLAN interpreters have been coordinated by Communication Republic - we thank them for their incredible support!

While The Garden is constantly working on ways to improve the site and its access, the parkland itself offers some challenges. In places the pathways are steep and consistently so. A number of venues in The Garden are antique wooden theatres, which cannot be modified. Where possible, paths and ramps have been installed to improve access to the site and its venues.
