1998 - Breitling sponsored the Breitling 'Orbiter 2' global balloon project. The pilots for this attempt were Wim Verstraten and Bertrand Piccard with Andy Elson as the technical director and technical pilot / flight engineer. The flight lasted nine days from Switzerland to Burma and became the outright world record for flight endurance for any aircraft within the Earth’s atmosphere. The flight was recognised by the International Olympic Committee and awarded Olympic status. The three pilots were authorised to wear the Olympic rings, and attended a range of PR and charity functions. In keeping with dress codes demanded by such functions and to enable the pilots to fasten the cuffs of their dinner jackets, Breitling presented them each with slim Breitling Aerospace 'Orbiter 2' Repetition Minutes dress watches, matching the 'Orbiter 2 'Emergency watch dial. Breitling, the renowned aviation watch manufacturer, sponsored and assisted in a range of pioneering balloon record attempts during the late 90s with the mission to circumnavigate the globe. Andy Elson was involved with several of these attempts breaking duration records along the way, before it was finally achieved in 1999 on the Breilting Orbiter 3 piloted by Betrand Piccard and Brian Jones. £3000-4000

The goal to fly to 132,000 feet seated on an open platform wearing space suits. Unfortunately despite several attempts it was finally abandoned following an irreparable tear of the balloon. Breitling, the renowned aviation watch manufacturer, sponsored and/ or assisted in a range of pioneering balloon record attempts.

The artist was born in Preston and raised in Yorkshire's Calder Valley, he studied at St. Martin's School of Art, London and accepted a post-graduate place at The Royal College of Art, he was a close contemporary of David Hockney. His early talent was greatly appreciated by his director Carel Weight. It was at The Royal Society of Artist's that he made his first acquaintance with etching and was later to become one of the most notable etchers of the second half of the 20th century establishing a studio in Fournier Street, which is off Brick lane, he taught part time at Maidestone College of Art and enjoyed the company of Quentin Crisp, he was also a life model there at the time. He later settled on the Lizard in Cornwall and taught etching at Falmouth Art School and Farnham Art College until five years before his death. The Ashgate Gallery which was run by Elizabeth Naydler put on one-man shows by a number of the best known artists of the period, such as John and Jean Bratby, Elizabeth Frink, Julian Trevelyan, Mary Fedden, Sandra Blow, Peter Blake, Sonia Lawson and Willi Soukop. The artist was born in Liverpool and is best known for his painting of industrial scenes of Northern Britain. He acquired the nickname 'Braaq' in his school days on account of his artistic talent, he was named after the French artist Georges Braque. The artist's first exhibition was held in 1974. During WWII Ann Zinkeisen worked as a medical artist and nursing auxiliary in the order of St John at St Marys hospital, Paddington. Towards the end of the war London underground commissioned Zinkeisen to produce a poster anticipating the end of the conflict, her design showed a woman leading a family away from the war to sunlit fields over a quote from Winston Churchill. Mick Cawston (1959-2006) - 'The Belstone Fox' signed Cawston and dated 1986, also inscribed with the title, oil on canvas, 24" x 20" ** The artist specialised in painting animals, particularly dogs but also other wildlife from foxes, deer and native bird life through to horses, hares and badgers. He painted a great many dogs including pointers and spaniels as well as labradors for many private collectors and sportsmen and owes a great body of his work to the painters John Emms and Maude Earl. He was born in Dagenham, Essex and exhibited mainly with the picture dealer Sally Mitchell establishing himself as one of the better wildlife painters of the 20th/21st century, many of his works were published as prints, he tragically died at the early age of 46 2006 on Exmoor, Devon £600-800 910. THE MADAME SIDNEY PRATTEN COLLECTION 1301. The Madame Sidney Pratten collection of guitars and related ephemera, including seven antique guitars, a Gigelira, personal sheet music with hand annotations, an original watercolour picture of a young Madame Sidney Pratten (Katharina Josefa Pelzer) and a further collection of pictures relating to Mrs Pratten and the Pelzer family After Mrs Pratten died in 1895, her sister, Guilia Pelzer, inherited many of her instruments and archive, which were sold at auction by Sotheby's in 1938. Many of these papers and one instrument were resold at Christie's on 21st July 1978 and purchased by the vendor. Aside from the two “selected by” annotated guitars, the Gigelira, and the cloth covered music folders with their contents, the rest of this collection was bought by the vendor in another London auction following the Christie's event in 1978 It is rare to find such an archive of a prominent 19th century guitar teacher and player

Ascertainment of the Buyer The Buyer shall be the person making the highest bid which is acceptable to the Auctioneer as signified by the fall of the hammer. No bid may be retracted. 15. Law and Jurisdiction These Conditions of sale are subject to English law, which shall apply to their construction as well as their effect. The Seller and Buyer agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

16. What is Temporary Importation? Temporary Importation is a system that applies to lots which have been imported for sale from outside the EU. It allows the point of importation to be delayed until after the sale at auction. VAT registered buyers from the UK should note that the invoice issued by Gardiner Houlgate for these items is not suitable evidence in respect of import VAT. CITES Restrictions Any lots containing any amount of Brazilian rosewood and endangered species may be subject to restrictions when exporting outside of the EU. It will be the buyer’s responsibility to make sure that the relevant paperwork is in place before shipping. Some lots are sold with CITES article 10 certificates, allowing the commercial use of an item containing an endangered species. Lots subject to this are marked in the catalogue Import/Export It is the buyer’s responsibility to obtain the correct import/export licenses and CITES licenses for items which they have purchased. Gardiner Houlgate take no responsibility for the export of goods 19. Gemstones Many gemstones have been treated in various ways to enhance their appearance. For example, sapphires and rubies are routinely heat treated and emerald treated with oils and resins. Some stones may require re-treating or oiling periodically. Enhancement affects market value, and all Gardiner Houlgate estimates assume that gemstones may have been enhanced.

20. The Auctioneer reserves the right to charge storage of 50p per lot per day on any lot or lots uncleared by the time specified together with any removal expenses.
