Mayrig Restaurant

15 years ago, Mayrig opened in Beirut as the first Mediterranean Armenian restaurant. Soon, Mayrig grew to become the reference and guardian of the Armenian culinary heritage of the diaspora. Since then, Mayrig has brought the Armenian Cuisine to Dubai, Riyadh and Maldives. Mayrig’s kitchen offers an ever-new array of Armenian delicacies. Its recipes originate from the fertile lands of Anatolia and were transmitted from mother to daughter. Its dishes are characterized by a play of contrasts in texture, flavors and colors, combining Mediterranean freshness with the rich flavors of silk road spices. For Aline Kamakian, the owner and founder of Mayrig, opening in Armenia has a very special meaning; it is a tribute to the Armenian history and people. Mayrig brings an enriching addition to the growing culinary scene in Yerevan. Mayrig’s menu offers a generous variety of traditional Armenian dishes and serves a wide array of cold and hot mezze, juicy salads, delicious slow-cooked stews, a big variety of juicy and tender meat from the grill and mouthwatering desserts. Mayrig tells the story of the Armenian people and celebrates the unrivalled Armenian hospitality.

#AraratChallenge

The Second Chance Our World Deserves

The Aurora Humanitarian Initiative launches the #AraratChallenge, a global crowdfunding campaign. The Aurora Humanitarian Initiative has announced the #AraratChallenge, a new crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting those in urgent need of basic humanitarian aid around the world. The #AraratChallenge is a video-based crowdfunding campaign set to increase the impact and reach of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, whose projects combat poverty, improve healthcare and provide education to those in need. This call-to-donate seeks to inspire and engage people to embrace Aurora’s mission of empowering successive generations of humanitarians. At the core of the campaign is Mount Ararat, a universal symbol of renewal and second chances. Just as the 100,000 Armenian orphans that survived the Genocide had a chance to start a new life, the #AraratChallenge provides an exceptional opportunity for everyone to join this movement and give a second chance to those who need it most. “Mount Ararat is the biblical mountain where Noah’s ark is said to have landed and a crucial part of the story about humanity’s second chance. As we know, a century ago our ancestors were also given a second chance to survive the Armenian Genocide. Many people, including my grandfather, owed their survival to the generosity of others. One hundred years later, we founded the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative and the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity on behalf of the survivors and in gratitude to their saviors. We are committed to giving a second chance to those who are in need today. The #Ararat Challenge is a unique opportunity to continue the cycle of Gratitude in Action together,” said Noubar Afeyan, Co-Founder of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative. The Aurora Humanitarian Initiative kicks off the #AraratChallenge crowdfunding campaign inviting people from all over the world to take part in this movement and donate any sum, even $1 per month, to give a second chance to the vulnerable and destitute. All funds received in the form of donations will be directed to the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative’s programs that directly benefit those in need. “Everyone deserves a second chance, and the #AraratChallege is a call to help us give that chance to people around the world. I myself and many other Armenians are alive today only because some courageous and compassionate people saved our grandparents one hundred years ago. Today, we continue to see victims of violence, war and genocide around the world. Most often, children are the first victims of these heinous atrocities. And just as we sought help a century ago, today we can be those that help; we can make a difference. Today, we are fortunate to have a turn at making the world a safer place for the generations to come. Join the #AraratChallenge and put your Gratitude into Action,” said Ruben Vardanyan, Co-Founder of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative. The #AraratChallenge is open to anyone. All the necessary information about the challenge and a tutorial on how to join the challenge can be found in the official website of Aurora Prize (auroraprize.com). Source: auroraprize.com

In Armenia, this problem will never disturb you because places of interest for kids are numerous. Let’s discover what we can do in

Armenia with KIDS.

Once you are in Armenia you will never have the feeling of little breathof nature because in every single street and big avenue has a park near it. The recently opened two parks in Yerevan are the proof of it. The stunning Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park built in downtown is a fascinating place with its unique fountains, marvelous statues (each representing a deep meaning) and perfect nature. Kids do adore this place and you will get sure when you just pass it and see hundreds of children playing under the fountains and smiling brightly. You can find this place very easily, just go to Republic Square and walk down to Yerevan Municipality. Another ideal park, well-known as Fountain Park, connects Mashtots Avenue with Saryan Street having Aram’s Street by side. It seems to be a small and less crowded Northern Avenue when one can find calmness and perfectness. It is a favorite one for children as well because here they can see huge grass-made horses, elephant, and a small house to enter. It is like a little fairytale not only for kids but also for grownups. Kids simply adore attractions and merry-go-rounds,any type of carousels, and get crazy especially for the ones which see m to be dangerous. Not offering danger, but only full adrenaline, we have the best place for your kids to relax, get entertained, and have fun. Zazaland includes fun and interactive attractions, as well as an arts and crafts corner where children are able to master and develop their creative skills and imagination. Being situated in Yerevan, Oghakadzev Park, 1st District (adjacent to “Aragast” cafe), Zazaland is the most interesting place for kids to spend time. Safari Train, Freefall Tower and Toy Swing are among the most preferable attractions in Zazaland. After getting tired and exhausted of spending so much energy in Zazaland, your kids would love to enjoy some fresh, juice, ice-cream or any kind of food. Just take the m to El Garden Kids Zone and you will get surprised simply how the place can offer so much at the same time. Tasty dishes, perfect drinks, clean air and unexplainable nature will keep your mouth open. You can find this place with the following address: Tsitsernakaberd Park, 8 Building. Here your kids can play with small pets, listen to highly entertaining music and eat / drink lots of yummy and healthy food. Armenia has a lot to show and offer you and your KIDS! Just stay alert and never miss a single place to visit once you are in Armenia – the FRIENDLIEST country in the world.

Tourists about Armenia 364,489 thousand tourists arrived in Armenia in the period from January to March in 2019, the Statistical Service of Armenia (NSS) reported, adding the number has increased by 5.2% to compare with the number in the indicated the previous year. But what do tourists speak about Armenia? HERE WE ARE!

Sincerely, Patti & David Gurun Dallas, TX USA

"Our tours & time in Armenia were amazing. We enjoyed them so much. The people were all so prompt, sweet, knowledgeable & professional. Tamara will be a very fond part of our Armenia memories".

Sincerely, User: PlaneteVerte Paris, France

"Yerevan – an old city that looks really young. You'll never guess that this city has almost 3000 years behind its belt. I was told that there is almost nothing to see outside the Small Center but if you want to see the real life - take a subway to one of the final stations (it's not a big city). It is safe and very friendly. Many young people speak English and older ones will find a way to explain what you need without it. Pick up a travel guide from one of the hotels or restaurants and you'll know all you need to enjoy your stay here".

Sincerely, User: Lukino6 Bratislava, Slovakia

"Yerevan is a quite a large city which is very spread out. But the "downtown" is basicaly just one massive square where all the roads meet. And it is of course packed with people and surrounded by hotels. Yerevan has both Christian and Muslim influence and also remains of the old soviet era can be seen in forms of the flat blocks. I was impressed how well they try to keep the city clean. Yerevan has lots of greenery, parks and gardens which are all very well looked after".

Sincerely, User: FOREVERTHERIDE Munich, Germany

"Fabulous. For the visitor Yerevan has emerged as Eurasian, European, cosmopolitan, fashionable and a great city to enjoy music, art, history, eateries, swank cafes and shops, traditional dining and cultural interaction. Just do it. This is my 5th visit and no I am not Armenian. There is value for money for foreigners, and most goods are excellent in price. Good hotels, and tour operators that can insure your interests in visiting all of Armenia's treasures are available".

Sincerely, User: Eben Diskin United Kingdom, London

"Even for history buffs who pride themselves on the depth of their knowledge, Armenian history is probably a mystery. As the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion in 301 AD, Armenia is home to the first Christian cathedral in the world. The Etchmiadzin Cathedral, completed in 303, is still standing in the town of Etchmiadzin and is the religious center of all Armenians to this day. Armenia is the most fascinating place you can visit this summer".

Sincerely, User: kimkim Sweden, Stockholm

"Cross the border to Armenia to see 10th-century Haghpat monastery, Sevan Lake, and a 2000-year old Mithran sun temple. End your trip with a visit to Yerevan's Republic Square and nearby Saint Hripsime Church—one of the countries oldest".

Medical Tourism is one the fastest developing destinations nowadays. But what is it? People, who travel to other countries in order to obtain medical treatment rather than in their countries, are medical tourists. This kind of tourism is not recently developed as many people think. In the past, medical tourism usually referred to those who traveled from less-developed countries to major medical centers in highly developed countries for treatment unavailable at home. However, this concept has changed as nowadays the problem is not only availability of some therapy, procedure, etc. One of the main reasons why people may choose to obtain their treatment in another country can be the cost of treatment. In developed countries medical treatment is pretty expensive, so local people of those countries travel to a current developing country to obtain their treatment as it is comparably cheaper, though well-qualified. Today, Armenia is one of the major medical tourism destinations. Why? Armenia has very good traditions of medicine taking roots in medieval science and continuing to modern days. Yerevan State Medical University provides highly-qualified education for future doctors of Armenia to be the best ones. Even thousands of foreigners come to Armenia to study medicine and this proves the perfect quality of medical education here. Armenia has developed a special sphere in the beauty and health industry – aesthetic medicine, becoming one the main center for aesthetic treatment. The aim of the latter is engaged in correction of appearance, using medical technologies. Annually thousands of tourists come to Armenia to have surgery operations for different organs. For recent several years approximately every medical tourist came to Armenia to have their noses operated. Today, another field appears to be well-known, hugely-developed and highly recommended, that is the field of hair transplantation. First thing to mention about Armenia’s hair transplantation field is the quality it provides. Many experienced and clever doctors from different countries get attracted by Armenia, its medical system and the developing hair transplantation field, deciding to continue their doctor’s activity in Armenia. The second things is that hair transplantation in Armenia is comparably cheaper than in other countries, and this causes people to choose Armenia as the country where they will have their treatment. In particular, people from Arabic countries visit Armenia for hair transplantation because they have already checked the high quality of experienced doctors and creative, safe and clever way of treatment. The other reason for tourists to choose Armenia as medical destination is medical centers equipped with the latest technologies. And besides, Armenia is a perfect touristic center and the wide range of sightseeings will make your trip not only “Just a trip for treatment”, but “A trip for treatment + enjoyment + perfect memories”. Visit Armenia, obtain healthy body and healthy mind!

“Summer” means “Sevan” Sevan is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Caucasus, nearly 28 rivers spill into it. The research revealed that it was originated in the 3rd century which has a very rare and endemic type of fish called “Ishkhan”, in English “Trout” with its four types; unluckily the fish is at the edge of extinction and registered in Red Book. The other species of fish are “Sig” and “Koghak”. Sevan was called the “blue eyes” of Armenia and is surrounded by Geghama, Vardenis, Pambak, Sevan and Areguni mountain chains. The biggest lake of Armenia is the most visited tourist destination of Armenia. The shores are near the hotels or resort houses and often are private; also there are two public beaches where the entrance is free. They are convenient for picnics but there are a lot of open pavilions. Yes, we all know that the lake is actually perfect with all its natural biases, but there are thousands of places to visit which were made not naturally, but by humankind. If you travel to Sevan these days, you will definitely wish to find a place where you will be able to eat something typically Armenian and have a wonderful rest. One of the mostly visited and beloved restaurants in Sevan is “Gagari Mot” (At Gagar’s). Why is it popular and favorite? Because here one can taste traditional Armenian meals, mostly made with fish or any type of seafood. When we talked to the founder of “Gagari Mot”, he told us that the most preferred dish for visitors is crab kebab. We wanted to know what makes their offered food different from others. Their chef explained that though they offer the same types of meals they make each one differently. One can never find a meal made in the same way as it is in “At Gagar’s”. So, if you happen to visit Sevan, don’t miss your chance to have a mouthful of crab kebab made in “Gagari Mot”. Enjoy their hospitality, the perfect view of Sevan and cozy atmosphere. The Lake Sevan is a perfect choice of those who want to have a mix of laid-back and active holidays. You’ll find “the blue-eyed beauty of Armenia” charming at all the moments throughout the day: besides mere gazing at the azure waters, idly sunbathing and meditating, you can also have a diving experience and explore the beauty of the lake from the boat. By the way, for young people this summer can become unforgettable in Sevan. If you happen to be in Armenia on 24 August, visit Sevan to take part in one of the best youth festivals in Armenia, YOUngFest2019. Participating in the fest, you will get a chance to navigate from Shorja beach to Drakhtik, enjoy the unstoppable music of famous Armenian DJs, get acquainted with new, intelligent and diversely developed people, and finish your day looking at stars with telescopes. You can follow the official page of the event on Facebook, YOUngFest.

Dilijan National Park

Dilijan National Park was established in 2002 on the basis of the state nature reserve, which in its turn was established in 1958 on the basis of the former Dilijan and Kuybishev forest enterprises. The territory of the newly established national park has stayed unchanged. The park is located in the northern part of Armenia, on the slopes of Pambak, Miapor and Aregani mountain chains and on the basin of Aghstev and Getik rivers, 1000-2000 m high above sea level. The mountains and gorges are covered with rich forests changing to alpine meadows and dotted with small farms, hiking tracks, lakes and rivers. The mountainous landscape is highly diverse, with different geological substrates, terrains, climates, soils and water resources. Many natural and man-made features enrich the national park: monasteries, lakes, archaeological sites, forests, wilderness regions, rivers and farmland create an endlessly-changing environment.

28 TOURINFO

Much of the interest in the park arises due to the historic wealth of the park coupled with its biodiversity, and it has been a popular place of inspiration for artists looking for inspiration throughout the centuries. A stroll in any direction will eventually lead to a monastery, such as the Jukhtakvank or Matosavank monasteries, or the incredibly well restored Haghartsin Monastery; and along the way are hikes laden with wild flowers and old-growth trees. Hidden in the shade, on trails of all difficulties, are the Parz and Gosh lakes, the Frolova-Balka Gorge, the Anagyun Caves, Akhnabat Yew Park and countless others. There are 45 species of mammals such as brown bear, wolf, fox, badger, beech marten, vair, bobcat, and even a small number of leopards. Very common are wood mice, Persian squirrel, loir, dormouse, brown hare, wild boar, axis deer and roedeer. There are 16 species of reptiles and 4 species of amphibians, Armenian, Rostombekovs and three-lined lizards, marsh and common tree frogs and green toad among them. There are numerous historical-architectural monuments and archeological sites on the territory of the National Park. These include the Goshavank and the Matosavank Monasteries, the Hakhnabad Church, and the pearl of medieval architecture, the Hagartsin Monastery of the XIII DE. In the National Park one will find ancient settlements, medieval cemeteries, chapels, and cross-stones.

The 7th Pan-Armenian Games will be held in August 2019. The opening ceremony of the Games will be held in Artsakh on August 6 for the first time in history. The idea of holding a Pan-Armenians Games came from Soviet diplomat Ashot Melik-Shahnazaryan, who first thought of the idea of organizing universal games for all Armenians while he was on a business trip in 1965 to Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, that was getting ready to participate in the first Pan-African Games. But because Armenia was a Soviet republic and that such an idea was considered by Moscow to be nationalistic, Shahnazaryan had to wait until Armenia attained independence to try to put forth his brainchild. The Pan-Armenian Games are complex competitions in individual and team kinds of sport among athletes of the Republic of Armenia and athletes of Armenian origin from other countries. The athletes from various parts of the world represent the cities in which they come from and not countries like other pangames. The Pan-Armenian Games take place mainly in Yerevan, Armenia. The sports played during the games are soccer, mini football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton, tennis, table tennis, chess, and athletics. The first Pan-Armenian Games took place from August 28, 1999 to September 5, 1999. Delegations from 62 cities and 23 countries participated in the games. In 2003, it was decided to transform the Games into once every four years (instead of once every two years). This decision was then subsequently reversed, and the dates for the 2009 games are August 8 to 16. The Games were mostly held in Yerevan, Armenia, besides this year.
